I travelled to Singapore with a group of 16 people so we choose to stay in a hostel to save budget, shophouse is a great choice in many ways, good location just 1 block away from Haji Lane and Sultan Mosque, a walking distance to Bukit street for shopping. Breakfast is wonderful.

Thank you for an amazing time and for the unparalleled service, Shophouse! I didn't interact with one member of your staff without walking away with a smile, and everything from (working title) to the rooms to the bathrooms was enjoyable. I had more than a few hostels to pick from in Sing, and Shophouse's website and photos are what attracted...

I didn't know how I found The Shophouse online, but thankful that I did since I was having a hard time booking a place (hello, fellow Coldplay concert-goers!) The Shophouse is located very conveniently within the Kampong Glam area, at Arab Street - a little 5-10 minutes away from Bugis MRT Station, and Golden Mile Complex (where most of the...

It was 2 years ago of my staying there, actually. I went there for a quick stay before changing to another hotel for another purpose, but my impression reached my expectation. The staff is very nice, one of them took me to the dorm and the bed is good, and the bathroom is small but it is just perfect for...

I stayed at Shophouse for ten days, and would definitely recommend it. The location is amazing, 5 minutes from Bugis MRT, and slap bang in the middle of Kampong Glam, with tons of cool restaurants and bars nearby. Bugis MRT is a very quick train ride from most if the cool things to see and do in Singapore, and the...

The Shophouse is a good hostel especially if you're a young, solo traveller. There's no elevator and people check in at varying times. Restroom lighting is a bit dim, but it does have warm water and also an ironing board. The best part about it upstairs at the lounge where you can chat with other travelers. It's not the great...

I stayed at the Shophouse Hostel for 3 nights in February 2017. I booked the 12 bed female dorm. Upon arriving the door of my dorm was not working (as in, you could not close it) and next to my bed there was a huge pile of random trash (pretty disgusting stuff) and several beds were unmade even if no...

Hi Sonia, Appreciate you taking the time to leave a lengthy review, you failed to add in a few facts from your end so let me do the honours. 1) We change the beds of guests who check out daily, the beds you saw were probably from guests who are still staying at the hostel. In any case, guests are...

A very basic hostel. Pros: location, price and the rooftop terrace. Cons: rooms are very basic (e.g concrete floors, no amenities), breakfast is served late (8.30) and thus pointless half of the time, wifi is faulty and the bathrooms/showers are no luxury either, to say the least. All of this is okay given the price (relative to other places in...

Staying in Kampong Glam

Neighbourhood Profile
Kampong Glam
This traditionally Malay enclave of Singapore offers an alluring array of shops, cafes, and bars. A walk down Haji Lane offers quirky shopping, while one block over, Arab Street is a treasure trove of brightly coloured fabrics, clothing, and Turkish rugs. Stop for a leisurely coffee or cocktail and watch local kids play traditional games along the lane. Also home to the Malay Heritage Centre and one of Singapore’s most prominent mosques (Sultan Mosque), Kampong Glam is a must-visit for a tantalizing taste of Malay life in this city.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
As cliché as that sounds, Shophouse was started by a couple of best friends, backpackers who couldn't travel the world (yet) and wanted to bring it to them instead. So grab us if you have a minute to spare, we all have a wanderlust tale we'd love to hear or share. Less than 30 minutes from Changi International Airport, The Shophouse is located at Arab Street, a heritage area famous for its heady mix of arts, culture, dining and fashion. A 5-minute walk from Bugis MRT Station, Nicoll Highway MRT Station or Golden Mile Bus Complex, Shophouse combines affordability, comfort and convenience in a charming historical building. ... more   less
