The hair dryer was fixed in the drawer, which is a bit inconvenient, but the airflow was decent. It sometimes stopped working after continuous use.
The first room I was shown to did not have a bathtub, so I contacted the front desk and they immediately brought me a key to a replacement room. The first room was clean, probably because it had just been renovated, and the second room had some issues with the black mold around the bathroom, which is often pointed out in Japan, but I think it was at least as clean.
There were traces of what must have been a fan on the ceiling, and it was a bit dark at night.
The other drawback is that it's a bit far from the station. It was a 15-minute taxi ride from Newton Station, about S$13. It might be cheaper depending on where you get off.

While the room is large, cleanliness is a major issue. The mini fridge is old and struggles to keep things cool. The bed and pillows are comfortable, but the room lacks some basic functionality — for example, there is only one bedside table.
The hotel’s location is excellent, and the buffet breakfast is a positive feature, with a variety of both Asian and Western options. The fresh eggs and waffles made to order are also a nice touch.
However, service has been disappointing. The front desk staff is polite, but many of the older front-of-house and food & beverage staff seem indifferent and unfriendly. For instance, an older porter watched my mother struggle with the foyer door and made no attempt to assist. Our “Good morning” was also met with silence. Some staff have been very helpful but generally the staff are cold and don’t engage.
At this point, I wouldn’t recommend the hotel, though I see a lot of potential if improvements are made. With a few updates to the rooms, better cleanliness, and more attentive service, this could be a much more enjoyable stay. Unfortunately, as it stands, the hotel does not feel like a 4-star property.
Our room was cleaned everyday and we received regular top ups of tea, coffee and bottled water, having a fridge was really useful and the air conditioner was well used! Our room attendant was friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
The pools are great, just the right size and not too deep so ideal for my 9 year old. It wasn't busy when we were there and stays open till late in the evening with a plentiful supply of towels. Food prices in restaurants in Singapore are really expensive and the hotel is no exception but we did have the breakfast buffet once, it was pretty good and there was a wide range of items available. The rest of the time we had breakfast in our room, there are a number of bakeries nearby.
The hotel is 5 minutes from Orchard Road, very close to Scotts Road and several shopping malls. There are 2 ways to go down to Orchard, either past the Goodwood hotel or out of the back door, past the hospital and through Paragon Mall.
I think the York Hotel is very worthy of consideration for several reasons, reasonable price for Singapore, great location, quiet area, nice pool, spacious, comfortable rooms and friendly and polite staff. I'd definitely stay there again.
Thanks for making our stay in Singapore so pleasant!
We stayed as a family of 6 from 24th April to 30th April.
The check in was smooth . Sophie at the front office was excellent she gave us an early check in around 12:30pm and both rooms were adjacent.
The hotel is old but very well maintained very close to the famous orchard road .
Staff is good and very efficient . Any issue in the room the come quickly to do the needful.
House keeping staff does a good job too .
We took the buffet breakfast which was a mix of international buffet - american , English chinese and some indian too . Good option for indian guests . Though breakfast is expensive if you buy it directly incase you get an online deal go for it . Though sg is country where one can explore lots of breakfast joints but it can get difficult to mobilise with a family .
It's about a 10 min walk to orchard road main street uphill is steep .
Pro tip - use the back gate to reach orchard road much quicker and you will skip the slope .
Perfect location for shopping and sightseeing
I would like the breakfast menu to be more varied each day.
There was welcome fruit, but no knife or plate.
Pool and gym close a little early
For those booking standard rooms, especially if they are to be occupied by seniors who may have limited agility, there are no shower cubicles in the bathrooms. Instead, they have bathtubs. The Deluxe room we upgraded to, at an extra charge, offered a shower cubicle in addition to the bathtub. The fitness center and swimming pool were adequate and breakfasts at the White Rose offered variety and a good start to each day!
It was nice that it wasn't far from Orchard Road and there was a shopping mall nearby.
The pool isn't big, but there weren't many people, so I enjoyed it leisurely.
Breakfast could have had a bit more variety, but it wasn't bad.
The room wasn't too small, and the bathroom was spacious as well.
They gave us 2 buckets of water a day, and it was nice that they gave us 2 buckets of 1.2L water instead of small amounts.

"There are two entrances one of which is via Goodwood Park off Scott’s Road. Not obvious when you are actually at the lobby of the hotel."Read full review
