Echoes of 19th-century elegance reimagined in the historic heart of Singapore by Bond girl turned interior designer, Anouska Hempel. The award-winning Duxton Reserve Singapore, Autograph Collection, is perfectly situated in the island’s city centre of Tanjong Pagar and the heart of Chinatown, where business, socialising, dining, and nightlife take centre stage. The original design of this Urban Redevelopment Authority Architectural Heritage Award-winning building features a diverse mix of Chinese, Malay, and European elements. Guests are in for an elegant surprise as they enter the hotel, which features large theatrical golden fans and strong hues of black, gold, and yellow, layered with Oriental screens and calligraphy wallpaper from Anouska’s personal collection. In harmony with rich Asian history, yet still presented with Anouska Hempel’s luminary vision, Duxton Reserve Singapore boasts 49 guestrooms and suites, each with unique individuality so that no two are exactly the same.

Duxton Reserve Singapore, Autograph Collection, garners acclaim for its sophisticated and stylish atmosphere, with guests often mentioning the chic decor and elegant ambiance. The hotel's prime location is frequently praised for its convenience to local attractions and shopping. While the rooms are celebrated for their unique design, some guests find them a bit cramped and dimly lit.
The impeccable cleanliness and luxury touches are well-received, as is the diverse breakfast offering, though the absence of a pool and occasional service hiccups have been noted. The professional and friendly staff are regularly commended, although opinions on value show a divide, with some guests feeling the experience does not justify the price.

I was curious to give the first of Six Senses’ city hotels a try and I wasn’t disappointed. Yes, the decor is certainly on the dark/black side, both in the public areas and in the rooms, but the hotel is full of character and you can clearly see its historic past.
I had a warm welcome, with quick and efficient check in, along with a welcome drink with a cold towel.
I stayed in a King Opium Suite which was very well appointed and the design was well thought of. Overall the suite is a good size as a standard room but when you divide it into the sleeping area and living area, it does make it feel a little crammed.
The bed was very comfortable with plush pillows. There is a mini bar with complimentary cold water and milk for tea. Tea and coffee are also available and complimentary. I enjoyed the locally curated loose teas available in the room. The suite had a washroom with a double shower and amenities in large reusable dispensers, part of the brand’s commitment to sustainability. The room also had a Sonos sound system along with items used to enhance wellness from ancient Chinese traditions, such as the singing bowl!
There are a few elements that are already showing wear, such as the loose door nob into the washroom, or the shower dial which comes off with ease. Also, the USB ports on one side of the bed did not work. Some of the fabrics such as the cushion covers by the lifts also show some wear. That said, I didn’t mind all those things. The hotel does have a feel of wellness about it and found the environment very calm and relaxing.
The hotel restaurant, Yellow Pot is certainly a highlight. The food is delicious and the staff very friendly and helpful. Service is very efficient. I enjoyed dinner there and breakfast the following morning. Breakfast is a la carte and if it is included in your room rate, it covers two of the small/light dishes and one of the main dishes along with fruit juice and tea/coffee.
The hotel location is also perfect for visiting China Town. Everything is within walking distance. The area has many restaurants and bars/coffee shops. It is also a 5 minute walk from the Six Senses Maxwell where you can use the Spa facilities as well as the pool.
All in all, I had an enjoyable stay and would recommend the Six Senses Duxton.

Dear PhillipP what a great review, thank you so much for your amazing feedback and for sharing your impressions here on TripAdvisor. We are extremely delighted that you truly enjoyed your stay with us and its a great pleasure to see, how much you liked the design of our renovated shop house as well the unique location right next to Duxton Hill and China Town. But we have also noticed your comments in regards to the bathroom door knob, the cushions and fabrics and we will use your comments as constructive feedback for our upcoming rooms refurbishment. I'm more than happy to share your feedback with my team especially in Yellow Pot, whom I know will be more than happy to receive your feedback. Kind regards and stay safe and healthy!!!!! I spent four nights at Six Senses Duxton with my daughter. This relatively small boutique hotel - just about 50 rooms - opened in 2018 in a historically protected building in the Chinatown district. As a result, the changes that could be made to the building structure and amenities were somewhat limited, but the architects have done a good job. The hotel rooms are relatively small but very comfortable and equipped with all the amenities you would expect of a 5 start hotel. Only Wifi was a little slow on two evenings, but that may may have been my mobile phone. Service was very good and the front desk staff were very helpful with suggestions for public transport, travel time info to places worth visiting, etc.. Breakfast was included in the price, and the a la carte options were quite extensive (and good). For those wishing to relax in a pool or spa, the Six Senses Maxwell is two blocks away, and guests of the Six Senses Duxton can use the pool and spa there. We will happily return.

We were first struck by the hotel's beauty, a brilliant example of Singapore's historical Chinatown district's architecture. Walking into the foyer didn't disappoint, it's slick and beautiful with black lacquer and silks setting the scene. The rooms were pared back but luxurious, an elegant, seamless black bathroom and a glittering mini bar were the design points, with cushy white linen beds to relax from the hustle and bustle of the city outside. The breakfasts were amazing, a great range of healthy options as well as local adaptations - chilli crab omelette! The staff really made everything easy and pleasant. A great location with restaurants, bars and cultural spots within walking distance. Great place to stay!

Dear eat-wander-repeat, Greeting from Singapore and thank you for your fantastic feedback here on TripAdvisor. I truly agree with you, the Six Senses Duxton its a brilliant example of Singapore historical Chinatown architecture. The elegant rooms and our glittering minibar are indeed really unique and I'm sure its quite difficult to find another laid-back place like this, right in the middle of Chinatown. Let us know whenever your travel leads you back to Singapore, we will be more than happy to be your hosts again. With kind regards, Mathias Gerds General Manager

I recently stayed at the Duxton Reserve for about 3 weeks; it is a well executed boutique hotel with an incredible staff.
The room itself is perfectly curated , a little dark for my taste but that is to be expected with boutique hotels located within shop house districts. The location could not be better, a boisterous amount of dining options, including maxwell food stalls, my personal favorite.
I am Bonvoy titanium status and I received a room upgrade to the lovely Opium suite; other perks were : a beautiful breakfast, and 2 welcome drinks. Because of the duration of my stay I was also able to revive complimentary laundry, up to 4pcs / day.
COVID restrictions at the time resulted in no public dining, and I deeply considered switching hotels due to the small and dark room( for an extended period of time- it would otherwise be quite sexy) however, I absolutely LOVED THE STAFF.
I often leave for work around 0530 , which is well before restaurant opening hours but everyone on staff, from the front desk to the chef, coordinated to arrange me a lovely breakfast to go every morning. Their cheerful personalities were such a pleasant start to the morning and end to my day. I am set to be living in Singapore for 2 more years and look forward to taking my visitors to dine at yellow pot.
In a world where customer service is dwindling , this hotel is a lovely retreat.

Thought really hard how to write this review because for a 5* hotel, I hate to write nad reviews but they were lacking in a great many things. We got checked in by the very warm and welcoming Patricia, probably the only staff we could commend. First impressions were on point because of her friendliness and warm personality. Our room was the Duplex Suite and it was really nice. Lots of oohs and aahs when we got in and unpacked for our 2 nights stay. Our first night after we had dinner nearby, we got stuck in the elevator on our way back to our room. Seeing that the building was old, we tried not to make too much of it, only to realise later on that the lift permit pasted inside the lift is way over the expiry date. That is frightening. Then we kept having problems contacting the front desk to ask for an ice bucket and more water. We tried calling from 8pm till 9pm before someone actually answered. We had also asked for an extra blanket, but the staff had no idea where housekeeping kept extra linen. It’s really strange how that is so considering the hotel is not huge like other big named hotels. That night at past 2am, we were rudely awakened by a fire alarm that was false. Not very sure how to react to that but I guess safety first? On our second day, we left our room at 12pm to head out for lunch and came back 3 hours later. We told the staff at the reception that we would like a bucket of ice. When we got back to the room, we realised our room was not made. Called down to the reception to ask for extra amenities and new towels. The housekeeper came by and said we had to request for a room clean up then only they’d clean the room. We were both very stunned as this was the first time in all our many hotel stays overseas or locally, that we had to request for house keeping services. And guess what? The ice bucket never came till we called for it again 20 minutes later. Understandably manpower is less due to the current Covid measures, but for the kind of service we faced during out 2 nights stay, we don’t think the hotel deserves the 5* rating.
There was still a lot of dust in visible places. We discovered an already opened box of cotton buds. Amenities are in a big bottle and it really made us wonder if the bottles were actually cleaned and topped up every so often. Also, my friend’s husband popped by before we headed out to dinner, no temperature taking, nobody checked if he had checked into the location. Quite worrying in times of the Covid. I’m only giving it 3* because of Patricia. She answered and personally delivered all our requests on our first day. Thank you Patricia for being so warm and friendly!

Dear maymay2703, We have since your stay in January re-branded to a Marriott Autograph Collection hotel. Please come stay with us again and hopefully you will note the difference. On the elevator - it is the original lift from when the building was made and believe it or not - lieterally no one in Singapore is able/willing to maintain it - however - we have now found a willing company and some 15K later - the lift works off/on (still)...and so we struggle along to find a long-term solution. The shaft is a size that we are not able to change the lift to a new one even if we wanted to:( Warm Regards, Lady Boss

1) Location
Duxton Reserve is located at the heart of Tanjong Pagar, surrounded by plenty of eateries, cafes etc. Located right opposite of 7-Eleven for a quick go-to purchase or walk about 5mins to the nearest supermarket.
2) Design
Exterior design highlights the hotel from the stretch of buildings and shop houses. Designed with a colonial look on the exterior however upon entry, guests are greeted with an elegant design with a cosy ambience.
3) Staff & Service
Our presence was warmly greeted upon entry and our baggages were instantly attended while check-in was in process. Staffs were committed to delivering a professional and top notch service throughout the stay.
4) Room
Room was spacious yet intimate enough for us. We chose the Shophouse room as it has a minimalistic look with a hint of black and white Colonial feels. Amenities were complete in the room and shower/toilet. The room ambience gives off a relax and cosy feels which makes us feel even more at home and not to forget, the extremely soft bed which totally knocks us off.
5) F&B
The room package is inclusive of daily breakfast for two adults, two cocktails daily, dinner set for two adults and $100 F&B credits.
Breakfast was a spread with a main for each adult, a basket of bread and fruits for sharing as well as beverages. The pancakes and lobster and crab omelette was amazingly delicious, truly the best I’ve eaten.
Cocktails was fresh taste and further enjoyed with the beautiful design and ambience of the bar. Dinner set for two was truly a feast. The Fried Prawns with Bonito Aioli and Roasted Almond Flakes got us wanting for more.
6) Other Factors
A truly amazing and memorable experience during our 4D3N stay. Definitely, the best staycation we ever had by far! Thank you so much to Duxton Reserve and the warm people that truly made the guests feel at home.

Me and my wife stayed at this boutique hotel for 37 days to rack up elite nights. I booked the MyPoshPad option and was rewarded with a free room upgrade on checkin because of my Bonvoy Elite status (Titanium). Hence value for money, considering the delectable breakfast served. The MyPoshPad option allowed me four laundry items per day, reduced pricing and one free breakfast. My elite status afforded me another free breakfast.
All staff members were delightful. Robee and Patricia made us feel exceptionally welcomed. Robee always has a spring in her step and was very easy to talk with (through face mask, of course). Patricia was always trilled to see us, and would call out my name.
The room was beautiful. We got a slightly smaller duplex, but it felt spacious with the high ceiling and windows. The color theme was black with whites and yellows. Lighting was romantic. One large TV on the lower level and another on the upper level. Standup shower which was fine with us. Lots of power and USB outlets. The spiral staircase was a draw. I would have my video calls with it as a backdrop, and many would ask if it was real, upon which I would grab onto the steps to show them that they were.
The cheapest parking around is along the road. If you use the Parking App, it costs $20 from 0830 to 2230 (free overnight) - it could cost more if you decide to break up the parking times.
There’s loads of restaurants and eateries to choose from in the vicinity. Almost like being on a trip. There’s also a 7-11 that literally opens 7-11 opposite the hotel.
Overall, it was a pleasant, enjoyable and romantic stay. I would recommend it for couples and business travelers who do not need a gym or pool. It gets busy during the weekends.

Recently rebranded, this boutique hotel looked gorgeous from the outside, and stepping into the lobby; it was even lovelier. The black and gold/yellow colour combination in her furniture and fixtures certainly lent an air of opulence to the surroundings. Being in a row of shophouses meant that the hotel was long rather than wide. Space was limited and tight but the interior designer did the hotel justice.
The check in process was smooth and I was given the care and attention the moment I stepped in, courtesy of Michelle and Patricia. They were hospitable and gems of the hotel. Well done, ladies!
The room I was assigned to was well appointed. The colour scheme I marveled at in the lobby extended to the room as well. I also love the fact that I can access my room using a mobile key instead of a key card. If one prefers to eat out of the hotel, there are heaps of eateries in the vicinity, and a convenience store directly opposite the hotel meant that your needs are met right away.
I always make it a point to familiarise myself with the room after checking in, just so I know how to work the appliances and switches in the room. I like the closet and minibar and how the mirror within enhanced what was in them. I would also like to point out that whilst the four lamps around the four-poster bed are unique and unusual, a slight rattle and shake and the lights would go off. Perhaps the electrical connection needs to be looked into. The television is also oddly placed but the wall it is mounted on is the only clear spot available in the room. I did also wish the porcelain cups and saucers for the coffee and tea facilities are larger in size.
But having said that, I would recommend this hotel to anyone, for a worthwhile staycation.

More than a hotel, it's an experience. Six Senses Duxton is a unique and visually stunning hotel within the walls of heritage shop-houses. So many thoughtful touches were included at check-in and in our room. The hotel group practices sustainability and a lot of the food in the restaurant is organically grown by the hotel. All the staff are fabulous; welcoming, friendly and helpful but there were a few who really went above and beyond to make our stay special. Wan Ting went out of her way to find me a book about the hotels designer, Sunther arranged a special anniversary surprise in our room and Sarah was a bright and happy addition to the restaurant staff. The location is great, you can borrow a bike and cycle around Singapore or just wander through the local area.

It is such a great pleasure for us that we could meet your expectations, what else can we do. Its the old Chinese Shop-house charme and the thoughtful design that makes the difference to other Hotels. Spent two nights in Singapore, wanted to try out the Duxton reserve. Its a historic hotel located in a great location in "Chinatown". On first arrival my impression is that the hotel had a beautiful lobby with a lot of thought put into highlighting the historical significance of the building. I also appreciated that I was upgraded to a Duplex suite (more on that later).
The duplex suite is a room where the "living" area was downstairs and a spiral staircase walking up to the sleeping area. In the pictures the room looks awesome and I was looking forward to staying. But in actuality the room itself had a very dysfunctional layout and poorly planned lighting. Since the room uses predominantly dark tones, you would need alot more lighting in order to light things up. The hallway leading to the room was super dark as well. At night, the entire duplex was very dim especially in the sleeping area. The closet area was so poorly lit that I had to use a flashlight to look thru my belongings. By the second night I had decided to move my luggage down to the first level of the duplex (might i add, extremely annoying on the spiraling staircase). The bathroom was large, had a sink that was way too big, so big that there was no more counter space for toiletries except in front of the shower, so the toiletries basically get all wet while showering.
The living room part of the duplex literally has a 15' long couch, great for having friends around. But do note that there is NO bathroom on the lower floor, so everyone needs to go up the circular staircase to use the bathroom (then come back down).
There was a restaurant on site, but the F&B is so grossly overpriced that you're better off going to one of the neighboring restaurants if not here on company expense. Either way this is worth a shot if you want to try the historic experience, but I would caution against a super long stay.

Dear buybuysellsell, Thank you for taking the time to share your valuable feedback. As you well highlighted, we are a heritage listed building in Singapore, and therefore we are limited in what we can do in terms of renovation. Our rooms are designed in the best possible way to ensure the space is utilized to its best ability. We understand the feel, design and layout of the rooms might be different from other hotels, however this is what makes the experience a little more unique. Once again, we thank you for your feedback, and we truly hope to have you back with us in the near future. Thank you.

Standard rooms were not big ( tiny I would say) so I sounds like a mistery. We were 3 and booked 2 standard. The hotel is very well located and Sometimes this is better than to have a big room. in Singapore there are too many things to do to waste time on a hotel room. My recommendation is that you book it if is a bargain!

Dear Hoteladdicts
Thank you for your query.
Being in a heritage building & due to the configuration of our guestrooms, unfortunately, the hotel does not provide cribs for our guests.
Nonetheless, we are happy to welcome you & your family to Six Senses Duxton. We do have a good selection of suites for you to choose from & certainly looking forward to taking good care of you!
Thank you & regards
Sereena
