Detailed Reviews
This island is breathtakingly beautiful, the rooms are lovely, great views and beds super comfortable. Something to bear in mind is that you are paying for the luxurious location, not for high-quality luxury food. It may not help that I am a pescatarian, but the options at the small buffet breakfast if you don’t eat meat consisted of various deep fried foods.
Lunch and dinner isn’t included in the booking so you have to choose from the same menu for all meals for your whole trip, so I would therefore not recommended staying for more than a couple of nights or it gets pretty repetitive.
It’s good that there is a small gym but it would be great if there was perhaps a sunset yoga class, to give you something to do when the sun has gone behind the mountains. Just something we would have enjoyed!
Also not something that is outlined anywhere when booking (from what I could see) - there is no alcohol sold on the island, so you may wish to bring your own or you could get a shock when you arrive and would have liked a couple of evening drinks!

Pros
. Beautiful resort.
. Weather was fantastic.
. Secluded from the busier El Nido.
. Nice clean rooms.
. Good food.
. Good beach and pools.
. Good snorkelling.
Cons
. No alcohol which was only made clear when we had booked (which was non refundable). That said you could get it delivered from El Nido on the boat transfers.
. Boarding the boat from the pier was very dangerous. Especially when seas are rough. Not suitable for the elderly or less mobile or those who are pregnant.
. The dive company with whom they are partnered with are not very professional. Also they would not let any other dive company dock at the pier.
. Going to or from el Nido, outside of arrival/departure, came at a cost of PHP500 per person, even if the boat was travelling.
. Wifi not very strong but this not too much of an issue given where you are.

+1
5 star service, the staff went the extra mile. I would have to give a shout out to Jed who made our stay extra special, but Ian, Jason, Vin, David and the others were also great.
The food for me was exceptional, they had a wide variety of cuisines and I was there for 5 nights and didn't have a bad meal while I was there. Breakfast is included but you have to pay for lunch and dinner, it is more expensive than you would pay on mainland El Nido but we felt the food price was very reasonable given the location, service and quality of food. On average meals for 2 people came to around 3,500 to 4,000 peso per day.
We had the beachfront rooms and it was the best place we have ever stayed. Rooms were HUGH, you can watch the sunrise in the morning from your bed.
We really wanted to relax on holiday as we had done a lot of activity before we got there. The resort offers kayaking and snorkelling which is all complimentary, you can pay for additional excursions. There is a bit of a mark up on the excursions from the hotel Vs if you booked them on the mainland, we ended up booking the sunset cruise where you take a speed boat the the other side of the island and watch the sunset, again this experience exceeded my expectations we were accompanied by David who had exceptional knowledge on the area and the history and watching the sunset it to the vast sea was a very moving experience and I would highly recommend.
The reason I had to give a 4 star and not a 5 star is that it looks like some of the facilities were damaged (I believe the resort was hit hard by the typhoon having only just come out of Covid) so it's understandable but once management are able to fix these issues such as, caution tape on one of the pool ladders, uneven floorboards next to the pool, windows a bit grubby. Once these slight issues are fixed this resort will absolutely be 5 stars in my eyes.
Tips:
*Buy alcohol before you get to the island as they do not sell alcohol but if you bring it yourself they will serve it for you. The staff will actually offer to take you to a shop before they take you to the island
*Enjoy the free activities, snorkeling and kayaking
*Resort provided unlimited bottled water so no need to take your own
*Try the chicken adobo!!

Considering the amount you pay we were disappointed by our stay (two couples in a mountain villa with 2 br).
There are so many small details that are just not suitable for the expectations you have when you book such a place, be it the transport, the bed size in the second br, the maintenance of the rooms or general areas, not speaking about the massage place..... The staff is super friendly and really trying the best but they are not well trained, its definitely not their fault, you see that they try their best. It seemed like management doesnt care at all how the customer feels treated although with such small things they could improve the experience, eg upgrade the transport van, tell the staff to say a few nice words to arriving guests, do not stop at this ugly beach hotel, dont play annoying music all the time in the dining area, train staff on how to be attentive and fill up all foods before they run out, serve espresso/cappucchino/water for free (!), the choices of food at the buffet (make it more healthy), a more tasteful decoration, maintain the rooms, clean up that second pool and the construction site, organize the tour booking better so you know exactly what the expect (we booked way in advance and it was pure chaos, we were all so angry - but the guys running the tour were great, once we managed to get on a tour), pay attention if guests celebrate their birthday. Just show some empathy towards guest it cant be that hard...
There are nicer resorts in that area, I recommend you book those!

Overall the stay was quite disappointing and therefore would not recommend the resort to other travellers.
The Pro‘s:
The location is obviously amazing as it is the case generally for el nido
The staff try their best but this cannot compensate for the downsides
The Con‘s:
The resort is not well managed, everything seems unorganized and the managers are not able to deal with any request or even give out false information. The staff while nice is not properly trained and therefore cannot provide the service you would expect.
Rooms are okish but do not match the resort price tag. Cleanliness could be better and there is wear and tear. In general the design does not match the island vibe and feels misplaced.
Food is average and comes with long preparation time at dinner. Breakfast is poor.
We arranged tours a long time in advance but on the day it was complete chaos with false information given several times.
Transfer to and from the resort is also not operated professionally.
In general it feels like the owners and management’s main objective is to maximise their return and less so the wellbeing of the guests. You do not feel genuinely welcome there as a guest.
If you are looking for a resort experience in el nido, try the properties of el nido resorts which we also stayed at previously and which provide superior service.

I have a reservation which has been indicated as 'non-refundable' which I was adamant to book because I have no intention to cancel nor modify the reservation. However, due to their local lock down, people can't access the island on the dates I've booked the reservation, and was told that they couldnt accommodate me either. They wont even refund not a single cent for the accommodation, ans was given the option to rebook within this year. Great, now I have to spend thousands of dollars for plane tickets just to avail the resort. It's pure greediness. This kind of circumstance is not any of the guest's fault, not unless they would want us to disobey the travel ban just to avail the reservation

Whilst in El Nido, one of the major things you simply should do is stay in one of the island resorts. And for quite a while, it seemed like the options have been limited. So when we discovered Matinloc, we could not have been happier.
The island and its beach front is ”jawdroppingly” STUNNING. The first time our speed boat slowed down as it prepared to stop near the island’s entryway, we were speechless.
(+)
Food and drinks were very tasty
Rooms were comfortable
Loved the laid back and private vibe
The view and the marine life in this area are simply priceless
(-)
Decor can still be improved - lacks personality and style
All toilets in this property had ill-fitting toilet seats.
You should know that this resort does not serve alcohol but they allow you to bring your own stash with no corkage fees. We did not mind at all—who wants to pay for overpriced cocktails anyway.

I want to use this forum to rave about our recent stay at Matinloc Resort in El Nido. The island of Matinloc is magical and a great place to unwind on what feels like your on private island. Each day was a new adventure and our two night stay at Matinloc made this trip to El Nido so incredibly memorable.
Upon arriving into El Nido, a private charter boat from Matinloc picked us up at the pier in town. Dave introduced himself as our host and explained the boat ride would take about 25 minutes from El Nido to Matinloc. Dave explained islands along the way and pointed out the island of Matinloc in the distance which is massive. As we neared Matinloc, you could see properties lining the hills above the beach as well as a few beachfront properties that line the beach all of which belong to Matinloc resort.
Upon arrival, we were escorted up the long pier to the lobby for check in and were greeted by Margie, Sylvan and Sir Jason who greeted us and checked us in. Shortly after check in we arrived into our HUGE breathtaking beachfront villa that could easily have slept six or more people. While I could go on and on about the natural beauty of Mantinloc island and our incredible room, not to mention world class snorkeling which is right out front, it is important to know why is worth visiting Matinloc island beyond the stunning landscape, Matinloc island team members provide a exceptional operation at its absolute finest.
Matinloc set the bar incredibly high and for someone who considers themselves high maintenance when it comes to travel I want to acknowledge the team.

Personally I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dave who acted as our private host during our entire stay on Matinloc and for going above and beyond to make our stay so incredibly memorable.

First trip post pandemic and all I can say is that Matinloc is excellent. The staff are friendly and helpful while the food is so delicious. Every order and every bite is worth it and leaves you wanting more. At Matinloc, you feel well taken care of due to the people and the views found in the resort are sights to behold.
I guess small negatives would be that the room we stayed in had a few problems but the staff were quick to address these once you tell them so. The wifi can also be inconsistent but wasn’t a big problem.
Overall, Matinloc Resort is worth every penny and would love to come back here again.

We booked a 5 days stay in Matinloc Resort and had the best experience ever. We were abut worried how to get to the island which is (according to other reviews we read) was a 20 minutes Transfer from Lio airport to El Nido boat dock and 20
minutes speed boat to the resort.
Our plane landed at Lio airport and upon exiting the arrival area we saw a young men with our name printed on a clipboard. He introduced himself as Dave and gave us a brief detail on our transfer and he also said that he was assigned to assist us with our entire stay in the resort.
Upon arriving at the resort we were greeted by Jayson who oversees practically everything in the resort.
Our entire stay Dave assist and makes sure that we’re comfortable as home as possible. He took our lunch and dinner menus and also the resort kitchen always asked us if we’re allergic to anything. They also adjust their menu for us - as we don’t used salt and sugar. He also accompanied us kayaking making sure that we are safe all the time.
Enjoyed clear water fine sand beach, salt water pool and an incredible infinity pool. We booked a lagoon island hopping excursion from the resort and Wilmer was our very experience guide and provided us a wonderful knowledge and highlights about each stop. Being a first time snorkeling Wilmer gave us pointers and guided us snorkeling and it’s was amazing seeing all the living corrals and fishes large and small. We were served an incredible Lunch on the beach.
Overall the experience we had with this resort and staff is far beyond our past experiences and with no hesitation I will highly recommend this resort to my friends and family or to anyone who’s wanting to enjoy a piece of paradise with a superb staff.

Depending on the boat they send for you - the ride can be around 20 min or as long as 40 min or so. When we went, we had the smaller speed boat. Be prepared to get a little wet on the ride.
I think the WiFi can be counted on to be spotty at best. Weak signals and slow connection throughout the country. Resorts surely will not give out hi speed internet, if they had, for free.
Hi - I honestly can’t remember the pricing for the lunch and dinner menu - it couldn’t have been that bad. One thing to note - the menu does not change. I preferred the lunch menu over the dinner menu. The food was ok - nothing special. In terms of the staff - I thought they were extremely responsive and helpful. They tried their best to address any concerns that we brought forward. I hope I was able to answer your quetations. It is a beautiful spot and can be a great resort if they tweaked a few things.
I think so but not worth it the food is very average
