We have been to Bukit Lawang and been to Ketambe, so we are in the position to compare them! For sure, if you want to see the beautiful wildlife of Sumatera in their real habitat, then visit Ketambe! We have spend a week at Wisma Cinta Alam (four days, three nights in the jungle) and had a great time. The...

Forget Bukit Lawang, Ketambe will be the ultimate highlight of your visit to Sumatra! The place is very remote, but we are so glad that we made the effort of coming here. We recommend booking private transport through the guest house, even though it is relatively pricey. It will probably save you much headaches. We did a 3D2N jungle trek...

The rooms are basic but good value (I paid 150,000 rupiahs) and this establishment is located on the river side of the road. We saw a huge flock of flying foxes swooping down over the Alas River the night we arrived. Must've been hundreds of them. Food was very good and they had plenty of beer. This is the original...

Our group was two girls (18 and 19) and we had an amazing time. Trekking was not too strenuous and there was the perfect balance of relaxing and walking. Of course getting lucky with orangutan sightings made the experience all the more impressive, but making friends with the guides (putra and udin) and playing cards into the night, as well...

So mixed thoughts on Ketambe. The jungle hiking was a bit disappointing, we only saw 2 orang utans, very high up. It seems you just hike around the same small patch of jungle in circles, whether it's 1, 2 or 3 days, you don't get any deeper in. I did 1 day and made it to the hot springs which...

Hello, i would like to make a testimony cause the people from this guesthouse deserve to be promoted! Bungallows: cheap, very clean and very good mattresses Food: the curry, the gado gado, the pancakes, everything was so good! (and the best of my 3 weeks trip) Jungle trip: the team was nice, very professionnal, again the food was delicious (cooked...

Great stay with these guys. After doing some research online this seemed like one of the best places in the world to see genuinely wild orang-utans. Our guide Iful was great, a really nice young guy with a great manner and real knowledge about the jungle. This was no touristy activity but a full on three day jungle trek with...

I loved this place. Johann and his family made it a very special experience to visit the Sumatran jungle. Johann and his guides' enthusiasm with the rainforest and the animals was fantastic. We spent 11 days in the jungle with our guides and assistants Udin, Iful, Roger and Sabirin and we had beautiful encounters with lots of orang utangs. In...

We travelled 2,5 months in Indonesia and started in Sumatra. Wisma Cinta Alam was definitely the best place we have stayed! The jungle around is very beautiful and pure with real wild animals. Johan and his family are really warm and welcoming people. We had a three day two night trip with Johan (a really experienced guide who knows how...

We had a good time in this place. Rooms are basic but nice (don't expect daily cleaning). Bathroom could use some more cleaning. We took a jungle trek with Romi (the son of Johan) and we saw everything we wanted to see. Romi was very competend and a great guide: he could point to monkeys that if alone I would...
