The term "flophouse" would be enormously flattering for this dump - it's dirty, rundown and - a pun comes in handy! - it's crawling with bedbugs, dozens of those vile insects per square metre! Half a pint of blood I lost during a one-night stay here could have been donated and saved some human being's life, instead of feeding the...

I spent a night in Jakarta between flights and made the huge mistake of not searching around enough. So I checked into the Bloem Steen - it was cheap enough, and from the outside, seemed nice enough (and I was very tired). The bed was dirty and the mattress was the worst I've had in probably 20 years. There was...

The shared bathrooms look like they haven't been cleaned in years and are infested with flies. My feet were black with dirt after walking on the bathroom tiles. There are plenty of staff; who are nice and friendly, but seem to be lounging around and sleeping most of the time. It wouldn't take them long to clean the bathrooms on...

After a few stints here due to my poor travellerness I am pleased to say this place is getting better. At $6 a night it ain't the Ritz but I haven't been bed-bugged once and the owner seems to have had a positive personality transplant- he even looked out for me when I became ill. Jalan Jaksa is changing and...

Although it is mentioned in the lonely planet, don't go there even when you are tempted by cheapness! The beds were made out of plastic sofa cushions and the bathroom hadn't been cleaned in years. There was lots of dust, dirt and copious amount of flies! There are many places in the neighborhood where you can stay for the same...

Thought we found a nice cheap room but that was until we were woken at 2am from several bites from bedbugs. Horrible experience. Don't stay here. We immediately moved to a place down the street that thankfully was open in the middle of the night.

I have slept here two years ago and had my first bed bugs experienced ( I had to change rooms and told them). i did not give the place a bad review as the boys and owner are very friendly. And yes, decided to sleep there again as it was hard to find another place. And yes, I was bitten...

I read on Tripadvisor that in Bloem Steen bedbugs were living… Because of the cheap room rate (and some room prospection before I checked in) I decided to spend one night in this hostel. I chose a room with a hard rubber mattress protector and a metal frame bed. When I removed the pillow covers I saw hundreds of bloodstains,...

The hostel itself is not that bad. Showers and toilets are clean.. rooms could do with a lick of paint but are not the worst I have seen. Fan wasn't great but ok. Good wifi. The beds however are dismal and need to be burnt and destroyed. I removed all the bed bugs I could find from the room and...

I see by the other reviews that I was lucky not to get bedbugs, but I arrived late (11:30 pm) and left early in the morning. The rooms are very very plain, a bed and a fan only. My room had no window to the outside (only to the hall). Jakarta is an expensive city so 100,000 for a double...
