VUE - Come as a guest, come back as a friend!
VUE Hotel Hou Hai is the new upscale design boutique hotel in the centre of Beijing. This one-of-a-kind brand new hotel is located in the stunning surroundings of Houhai and offers an unforgettable staycation experience in a design combination of traditional Chinese architecture with contemporary and futuristic influences.
The Hotel
A major adaptive-reuse exercise, the hotel comprises a series of quasi-historic buildings from the 1950s. Upon entering the hotel you will discover a series of landscaped gardens, a bakery café fronting the bustle of the hutongs, a signature restaurant in a warehouse, a rooftop bar overlooking the lake and over 80 rooms and suites, several with private gardens or with views overlooking the park or lake.
The hotel compound comprises a series of buildings with a variety of architectural styles and approaches. Although designed primarily in the Chinese vernacular, the different buildings span a range of ornamentation from highly decorative roof eaves, characterful gargoyles, sculptured balconies and latticed window frames, to pared-back jack roofs and plain brickwork wall finishes. This diverse collection is brought together by color and landscaping.
All the buildings are conceptually draped in attractive shades of gray, echoing the palette of the surrounding hutongs, upon which key architectural details have been highlighted in a contemporary gold patina.
The VUE property is designed around a central narrative inspired by its locale or culture. For VUE Houhai Beijing, the narrative drew inspiration from the lake and its animal inhabitants.

Our Neighbourhood
VUE Hotel is located in Beijing, in the Hutong district of Houhai. The hotel compound sits on the edge of the picturesque Houhai lake, and neighbours a verdant public park, as well as historic Hutong houses which are still used by local inhabitants today. Located along Houhai’s banks are a district of bars and vibrant cafes.
The hotel looks out onto Houhai lake, while Prince Gong’s Mansion and the Former Residence of Soong Ching-ling are within walking distance. The hutongs are best explored on foot or by bike or rickshaw — just like the locals do. Stunning attractions such as Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, Jingshan Park, and the Temple of Heaven, are easily accessible by car or public transport.
I had a wonderful stay at the Vue Hotel. More than anything else, it was service that stood out. From pre-arrival requirements to my departure, Jack (Front Desk team member) was always helpful. When we arrived, I was asked how was our journey, and the limo service. I honestly gave feedback, one of the managers felt I was disappointed, he immediately made up to it. I would not give the details, but it was a generous gesture. That is top-notch customer service. The breakfast service was also wonderful, the staff was very attentive and polite. I actually miss their delicious food. We also had dinner, the servings were generous.
Situated in the Hutongs of Beijing, the hotel had great access to the big tourist attractions (Tianenmen Square & The Forbidden City) and was close to a great nightlife (restaurants, bars) scene. The rooms themselves were very funky. Management spoke very good English.
Trendy hotel in a quiet lakeside location and surrounded by historical streets (hutongs). It’s also near to tourist spots like nanluoguxiang. Service is great too. I would highly recommend this hotel, especially for leisure trips.
We were delighted by this comfortable and quirky design hotel with its courteous staff. Kevin made our checkin process seamless and was fluent in English with information to offer. When we had some issues with temperature in our room, Carl was most courteous and offered us a fan and was pleasingly helpful even in the middle of the night. Manager Chris even upgraded our room to one with a balcony so the cool air could be enjoyed. He was very personable, sincere and attentive making sure our stay was comfortable at every step. Definitely an experience worth reliving.
