Hosts David and Yang Zhi welcome guests and help with itineraries. The hutong is quiet and full of atmosphere, but close to transport and local restaurants and shops. Rooms were clean, comfortable and cozy, despite freezing temperatures outside. This is an ideal base for exploring Beijing, one of the world's most exciting cities. At Gladys Garden I found a home...

This place is an excellent place to stay. The hosts are welcoming, kind, flexible, helpful, and funny. They often have multiple guests from around the world, who have almost invariably been as kind and gracious as the hosts. I have stayed here many times, for anywhere from several nights to several weeks, usually when I am in or passing through...

The hosts were excellent - helpful, friendly, informative, gracious. Modern facilities, internet, full kitchen, good sized rooms, and of course in a great location in Beijing. A very good value indeed. We always felt welcome there during our 8-day stay.

This is a family home where we stayed for 5 days. It is in an excellent position in the old Houtongs, close to public transport and near to the Drum and Bell Towers. Zhi and David were very welcoming a really helpful. We made friends with the other guests and in the evenings sat in the living room and chatted...

This is a really nice place located in a calm neighborhood two minutes walk from the central lakes. There is a big living room, a kitchen with a good coffee machine and different bedrooms in different sizes and prices. I lived in the smallest bedroom, which has it's own entrance from a staircase, which also leads to the roof terrace...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Gladys Garden is our home in central Beijing where old courtyard houses and narrow alleyways are still preserved. It is right in a tourist region, close to two lakes, the Houhai and Qianhai. At night the bars along the lake shore are bustling with activities, but once you enter the alleys, it becomes very quiet. We are a retired Canadian and Chinese couple, fully bilingual. We prefer mature English speaking guests. We can help with sightseeing, shopping, and understanding life in China. Room prices include basic western breakfast. We have a small garden, a short-hair cat. The house is non-smoking, except in the kitchen. In addition, we can provide walking tour services of the Houhai neighborhood. Please search out ians-houhai-tour. ... more   less
