it was my most memorable trip in africa. We stayed at castle royale, a beautiful hotel in the centre of town but surprisingly posh and quiet. It is easily accesible from anywhere near the famous tusks and the tourist attractions are not far, in fact in walking distance - the old town with the famous portuguese fort and the tasty...

This hotel was built in the 1920s, so you really get a sense of history when staying here: grand hallways, historical pictures, high ceilings, ceiling fans in the dining room. I describe this hotel as a people watcher's delight because both the bar and the dining room are usually full with a very interesting cross section of humanity, including locals...

Stayed here for six nights. First night was in a small, noisy and hot room the rest in a much larger room further down the corridor. Try and get the rooms numbered 07-10 on any floor. They have spacious balconies, good air con and you might even get wifi on first floor. Rates are good although you pay extra for...

I arrived on the midnight flight and was leaving in the morning to explore the coast. I didn't want to shell out a lot of cash for what would be a "half night" and got much more than I expected! The hotel is old, but not falling apart. It has a classic feel -- but without being plush or anything....

This is the best place to stay in Mombasa. The hotel is located in safe neighborhood, so it is possible to take a walk also after dusk. The rooms are quite big and clean. On the ground floor of the hotel a nice restaurant is located. They serve a good food there. Also a bar is nice and there a...

Very happy with Castle Royale. Stayed two nights in Summerlink in December, but that was pretty poor, so we moved to Castle Royale one night, liked it allot and booked again for a night in January. On both occasions staff was quick and efficient, food was good, room was clean, and we like the location in the heart of Mombasa....

We stayed in this hotel just one night before heading to the coast. After 2 weeks in a camping safari across the country, this was an oasis of luxury! Rooms are very large, with air conditioned, and really nicely decorated in old colonian style. The bathroom was very nice and had hot water (although only in the morning and the...

There aren't many places with any sort of reputation in Mombasa, so you might as well stay in the most interesting place. Great central location, good bar and terrace, air conditioning (which you will certainly need as the daytime temperature hardly drops), generally good service. You can get a taxi or tuk-tuk from outside at any hour. Bonus is a...

I lived in Mombasa for many years and always liked the colonial charm and majesty of this hotel, so for my inlaws 1st visit to Africa we booked 4 nights here as part of our xmas holiday together. Booked and paid in September for a December stay and specified top floor city facing rooms, and were told that was no...
