Giraffe Manor is owned by The Safari Collection and is an exclusive boutique hotel, set in 12 acres of private land within 140 acres of indigenous forest in the Langata suburb of Nairobi. As one of Nairobi’s most iconic buildings, Giraffe Manor has extraordinary appeal, that harks back to the 1930s when European visitors first flocked to East Africa to enjoy safaris. With its stately facade, elegant interior, verdant green gardens, sunny terraces and delightful courtyards, guests often remark that it’s like walking into the film Out of Africa: indeed, one of its twelve rooms is named after the author Karen Blixen. However, the most fascinating thing about Giraffe Manor is its herd of resident Rothschild giraffe who may visit morning and evening, sometimes poking their long necks into the windows in the hope of a treat, before retreating to their forest sanctuary. Giraffe Manor can be booked for the night or as part of a complete tailor-made safari with The Safari Collection.

We decided somewhat last minute to try to stay at the Giraffe Manor as we were trying to stay under a certain budget. We decided that if we were traveling to the other side of the world, we might as well make it count and had our travel agents put us on the waitlist. Three weeks before we left for our East African adventure we got word that a room opened up. We are so thrilled with our decision. This was one of our favorite experiences of the whole trip. The food, staff, and accomodations were incredible. The experiences with the giraffes is nothing short of spectacular and a MUST do if you will be in Nairobi. If you are on a budget, find other places to trim it so you can stay here for one night. You will not regret it. Thank you, Giraffe Manor, for an incredible experience. We will be back one day when we have children so we can show them the magic you offer.

We were so worried that we wouldn’t get our monies worth and very nervous about spending this much money on a hotel but it was worth every single penny. The staff made sure that everyone had plenty of time with the giraffes and we really appreciated that. The food was out of this world and the staff was very attentive. So glad that we got to fulfill this bucket list place.

The manor gives you a chance to interact with a species of giraffe not often seen in the wild. It is a lovely place to stay all on its own, steeped in history and true to architecture and character of its origin. The staff help you have a wonderful experience.

This was on our wishlist and it was difficult to book a date, but we eventually got there and overall weren't disappointed, however there were a few things that could have made the visit better. The accommodation, surroundings and interactions were all spot on and no disappointment there, however what could have helped was to know what would happen during our visit. When we arrived in the afternoon, we were shown to our room, advised where the restaurant was and shown where the giraffe centre was. What we weren't told was when we could get to interact with the giraffes, that there was afternoon tea that we could have etc. We stood back for a long time awaiting someone to tell us what was happening. We didn't know if we could eat the afternoon tea or if it was for others. It seems that this happened every day and was for the guests but no-one told us that. We found that whilst we stayed two nights, one would have been enough as once you have had your pictures taken with the giraffes and interacted with them, there isn't really much else to do, but it was a nice relaxing and restful place. The younger staff were very keen on being paid to take your pictures for you whereas the older ones didn't expect anything but were happy to help out. Seems to be the way of the youth! Food was fantastic and plenty of options and drinks were plentiful and always on tap so it truly was an all inclusive experience with the exception of the beauty place. My daughter went there and had a dreadful experience. We didn't believe the girl was qualified at all but they didn't want to know about our concerns. I would recommend going out for a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum and the staff were happy to take you and wait for you there. I don't think there is a bad room in the house, however if you want the experience of the giraffes coming up to your window to be fed at approx 5.30am, then you need to choose those rooms. That was a lovely way to wake up with them knocking on the windows to be fed. There was plenty of opportunities for photos and there was no rush either so you could afford to wait and let others go ahead of you. I would recommend a stay but would suggest you ask the staff what the process is as to what time you can see the giraffes, what is included etc and what times things start.
