The hotel is on the West Bank of the Nile, so the same side as the pyramids and is approximately 500m from Dokki metro station, making it easy to get around. Dokki is primarily a residential area. Having the metro station so near made getting around very easy, there are also taxis hanging around outside of the hotel if you prefer.

Staff were all very welcoming and very helpful and keen to put something right if it was wrong. The first impression of the hotel in the foyer is quite luxurious. The room we had was situated in the 12th floor, which we thought would be quieter as it is away from all the amenities, however, the windows were very poorly fitting and allowed lots of street noise in. The room was clean but a lot of the furniture is tired and could do with updating. The air conditioning in our room wasn’t working but as we were only there for 2 nights we didn’t realise until day 2 and by then it was too late to get it fixed or be moved to another room. There were lots of issues with the key cards for the door as well, most often it took 7 or 8 attempts before the card was accepted.

There is a spa area, men and women are separated. They don’t turn the sauna on all the time but if you give the spa team half an hours notice they will turn it in so it is ready for use.

The breakfast is very good, lots and lots of choice, hot and cold buffet service, it was nice to try lots of new things.

There is a nice pool area with a pool bar. We were led to believe alcohol was available in the hotel but this is not the case, there are a couple of bar areas but only soft drinks or hot beverages available. There is an alcohol shop near the metro station where you can buy everything you could possibly imagine so it wasn’t a problem for us.

This hotel is advertised as a five star property, I would say that is an Egyptian 5 star and in the UK would probably only receive 3 stars. This is not a complaint just my opinion and we really enjoyed our stay, it’s a good location and the best thing about it are the staff who are all very keen to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

If you come expecting a 5 star experience you will be sorely disappointed. 3 stars considering the price per night here.

Prompt service is hard to find in this establishment. The lobby is well staffed however 1/5 are actually doing any sort of work. Others huddle in groups together wearing uniforms pretending to work. When reception becomes busy there is no help from free staff members.

The hot water system is atrocious. You will need to constantly adjust the water temperature to ensure you don't get scalded or have a cold shower. Be vigilent with this. Water pressure is woeful.

Expect long waits from your room if you require things like towels etc.

Room size is good. Interior is reasonable all things considered.

This area is apparently known for blackouts so be aware. Ours happened through the night so there was no inconvenience.

Non-smoking rooms still smell like smoke. This is the sad reality here. Expect common areas like the lobby to smell like smoke.

Staff members are polite.

The overall experience was unpleasant. I will not be returning here and would not recommend this hotel. If you want an actual 5 star hotel, go with the well known hotel chains along the nile river.

Even I requested a quiet room on top floor at your hotel and somebody promise me this room, when I arrived there were no available rooms on top floor 12. After that to justify someone from reception said to me that the rooms was not kept for me on 12th Floor because there are only smoker rooms. From where do you know that I smoke or not to decline my request? The receptionist started to give me a room at 2nd floor to heard the orchestra from the lobby perhaps and not to sleep after a long nigh flight. After some discussion we received a room at 10th floor near the elevator to heard all the noise, therefore the room was changed to 11th floor only there we have as temperature 14 degrees celsius and air conditioning does not help us to reach at least 18 degree celsius. Therefore the second day we requested a heater to have at least 20 degree celsius. Service room was ok. I was surprised by the other 2 services:
-ATM inside hotel get a fee to withdraw some money in comparison with ATM from the street. Nobody from the reception could tell me such thing.
-NO prices shown on concierge if you asked about them in comparison with Kempinski. At your hotel there are doubled prices and no assistance to find something suitable.

We stayed here for 6 nights and enjoyed our stay! The staff was super friendly but especially Emad (not sure how to spell it) our housekeeper on the 10th floor. He would always ask when the best time to clean our room and always went above and beyond. He is definitely the friendliest housekeeper i've ever met. The hotel always felt super safe. The security to get in the hotel is nice. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast every morning.
I recommend you use Uber instead of the taxis outside the hotel as we found the pricing much cheaper and no negotiating.

Before I get to the actual review, I wanted to say that my girlfriend and I have visited over twenty countries so we are very seasoned travelers.and have spent many nights in hotels across the world.

As an American and it being my first time in the Middle East, I was a bit more nervous than any of our previous stops. And of course when you factor in the precautions needed for Covid, it adds an extra element of concern. Let me say, the Safir Hotel and staff quickly put my mind to rest.

From the moment we arrived, we were well taken care of and very impressed. The staff welcomed us, most speak English very well, the lobby was beautiful, the hotel was clean, the gym equipment was very nice and all in working order. There’s a nice little coffee shop that’s seemingly always open to grab your cup of Joe and a sandwich or muffin. Our room was on the 8th floor so we had a panoramic city view off of our balcony. It’s hard to believe but in a seven night stay we had zero complaints.

Here’s some other random things we appreciated. The Safir has it’s own security team at each entry door. By that I mean a couple of security guys and a bag scanner you pass through each time you return to the hotel. Sure it’s a moment of inconvenience but I found it more comforting than anything. By the end of our stay, they were all laughing with us, especially when I forgot and threw my donut on the belt with my bag.

Another concern we had was finding somewhere to administer the required Covid PCR test required to pass through airport security upon our departure. It was in the back of my mind from the moment I arrived. On the third day, I went to the staff and asked for advice. The response I got was no problem sir. We can do the test here at the hotel and have the results back in 24 hours guaranteed. I paid the $125 pp fee and as advertised we received the results the next day. Boom, problem solved.

I also wanted to mention that McDonalds, Pizza Hut and Dunkin Donuts are all within a 5 minute walk if you’re not a fan of the Egyptian food. It was Ramadan during our visit so we had no choice.

I could go on but I think I’ll stop here. The ONLY thing that I might have liked more is if the hotel had been alongside the Nile. It’s close by but not riverside.

So let me summarize by saying yes we loved this hotel and the staff. I’ve read a few negative reviews and I just don’t see where they’re coming from. But maybe they were expecting The Four Seasons. If you’re an average guy like me, you too will appreciate The Safir and it’s staff of fine hardworking friendly people.

The hotel and the facilities are quite good, but be careful when booking a family room. Safir Hotel declares that it does not charge for children up to 12 years old, but, amazingly, they do not offer a bed! For your child to have the right to sleep in a bed, you need to pay, so it's not free. It is the same as if a restaurant says that it's free for your kids, as long as they don't eat.
Oh, and the air conditioning system seems old, it doesn't work very well.

I found this hotel on Booking.com, I read some reviews and they seemed very good, once we arrived, the valet staff took our luggage and our car to park it, inside the hotel, they great you with a smile and hand sanitizer, this actually made me feel safe walking in the hotel, reception staff Ashraf and Hatem were very helpful during check in and checkout, Mr. Ashraf made sure I had the best rate possible.
Once we got to our room on the fifth floor, I was happy to see that the room was very clean, beds were firm and comfortable, and generally quite. We are pleased with our stay, and will return to stay there when we visit Cairo again.
