It’s a nice simple, cosy hotel. It’s on the 5th floor of an old building - almost like an old world boutique hotel. Don’t expect anything too fancy. But it’s a really good mid-budget option with good staff and very good quality room. The best part, the rooms are very spacious and good. (We had booked executive room). The location in Zamalek is just fantastic. Close to many eating places, close to main road but not noisy at all. The area has lot of restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies, a pub, many colleges (you will see lot of students around). Don’t judge a book by its cover- the main building entry seems pretty awkward for a hotel - like a normal but old style building with old style elevators. Even the reception and common areas threw us off a bit - not very well maintained, old carpets but cute interior and deco. However, we were happy and relaxed once we reached our room. That was very well maintained with a small balcony with space to sit. It was a corner room (room no 10) and so breezy and well-lit. The breakfast was simple and okay. We stayed there 3 days and the breakfast was exact same everyday. Almost everything you need is there but don’t expect it to change. On the first day, I was disappointed a bit because we reached at 9 for a breakfast that ends at 10 and almost everything was over. They made eggs again but other things like croissants and falafel was over. We thought we were the last ones there but a couple who arrived after us also were disappointed. We didn’t face this problem the next 2 days. It’s good that they make things exact but they should also be prepared for refills. I have taken off one star for only reasons: - breakfast on 1 out of the 3 days - carpets throughout weren’t well maintained. I would come back again for - good location, room quality, at this price.…
The hotel is managed with such care - in fact, with such fastidious devotion - that, on entering (rising 5 flights in a wonderfully antique lift, with wood doors) you feel, instantly, the balm of a pervasive care. There is not a single nook that's not loving tended: in fact, the owner, Heba, has extended her heart to all she's custodian of, so that a guest feels not so much at home (yes, that too) but provided for at a level of astonishing kindness. Here is the beautiful balcony with the plants carefully tended (where pigeons alight like ministering spirits); here the antique set in the line of sight so that you pause a moment to meditate; here the cut flowers giving off a scent of the Nile valley - and here the breakfast so exquisitely laid out that you must first stand back, and give thanks. How can there be such places? Only from a deep and unyielding love and attention - and I'm grateful for it. Thank you, Longchamps!…
I'm not sure if this hotel is under new ownership or not, but our experience has been terrible and far removed from the earlier reviews that led us to book here. We booked an Executive Room to provide additional space and comfort. When we arrived, we were given a very small room with old furniture and missing many of the amenities listed as being provided in an Executive Room. For example, no LCD TV, no espresso maker, no blackout curtains, no bathtub, and only one chair that didn't even fit under the tiny desk. There was even a sign in the room with a price list for a "Double Room." When we raised this with the hotel, we were told repeatedly that this is in fact an Executive Room "because it has a balcony." They would not comment on the missing amenities and just kept repeating the line that it is an Executive Room. If so then the photos and descriptions on the website are very misleading. They have either overbooked the premium rooms and tried to fob us off with a lower quality room, or they have significantly reduced the quality of the premium rooms without updating the website. There was no offer of apology or reimbursement for the difference in price.…
Overall this hotel was a great find. Don’t be put off by the exterior or ride up to the hotel floor (5) We were welcomed by the owner, who was extremely friendly. But saying that, all staff here were friendly and helpful. Our room was large and comfortable with a king size bed. Bedding and towels smelt fresh and clean. Hot water takes a little time to come through, but once it does, it plentiful. Room was very clean, as was the rest of the hotel. Breakfast was great with good verity of food and drink to choose from. No skimping on tea, coffee or juice. Water and coffee are freely available throughout the day if you need it. There is small terrace to enjoy a cool beer after a frazzling day in Cairo.h
We found this hotel to be a hidden gem in mad, noisy, busy Cario. It was so clean and adhered to all Covid practises. The bedroom had lovely furniture, crisp clean linen and was kept beautifully by the housekeeing team. The owner Hebba was wonderful, full of advise on the area and together with her team, we were very well looked after for our 4 nights there. The breakfast deserves a mention, it was great, the best we had in Egypt. Would return to this hotel if we come back to Cario.
Granted I ended up here from a group travel trip (that was also majorly overpriced) but this place has a rickety elevator that I almost got stranded in, beds that feel like a stack of cardboard and windows that open out to a brick wall. It’s on the 5th floor of an abandoned looking building with other “hotels” and who knows what on other floors. It’s dark and dingy but somehow looks “charming” in photographs. It might all be somewhat forgiven or at best, forgettable, except that the owner Hebba is oddly rude and aggressive. I thought maybe it was just me or maybe even just expected racism, but after reading other reviews, my experience was not an isolated incident. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. There are so many better hotels for the same price, and even a chain hotel would be better than this.…
There is not an inch of this hotel that's not lovingly curated by a person who cares deeply about guests' well-being: the arrangement of the flowers; the hanging of the paintings; the buffet breakfast laid out with such deftness and love; the atmosphere of real and pervasive concern that what you might set your eyes on, should do you good, deeply so. Everything a hotel might be - from the bed linen, the pillows, to the morning coffee to the globular wooden key fobs - it exceeds, and with a type of generous forethought that helps you reimagine a better world. What makes it the more marvelous is that it's so unprepossessing to enter at ground level: but then you rise 5 flights are are taken into a netherworld of Egyptian (and German!) charm: which by its harmonzing of literally everything slows your heartrate and invites you to be at rest. Take an hour on the balcony for breakfast as the first light seeps through the latticework, chat with the doves, and marvel that such a place can be, and that someone with a deep heart cares so much about it. Concerned to travel during the pandemic? Don't let that stop you booking: the health protocols are fastidiously respected. On your own? The smallest room is snug, quiet and meticulously furnished. What could be better? Nothing.…
I've had the pleasure to stay for 5 days at Hotel Longchamp on November 2021. A more than lovely experience. The hotel is super well located, in Zamalek, right in front of the Faculty of Art of Helwan University. The neighborhood has that cool atmosphere, and is filled with beautiful little shops all around. It's also a block away from Pub 28, one of Cairo's nicest small pub with good food and great music. The hotel is beautifully decorated, perfectly clean, with several strong COVID measures that are smoothly enforced by Hebba Bakri, the German Meridien-trained hotel director / owner extraordinaaire, an amazing woman that has runs a beautiful well-ran establishment. I'm looking forward to go back !
We selected the hotel in central Cairo and it was the best choice. Hebba the owner and everyone at the hotel welcomed us very friendly. The hotel is charming, comfortable with a perfect location and great breakfast. I truly recommend it.
