I needed a place to spend less than 24 hours in central Cairo, as close as possible to the Egyptian Museum, and Cleopatra Hotel did just the job. The position is unbeatable for the price, if you don't mind the perennial traffic in Tahrir square and the Crossy Road technique needed to reach the Museum (I saw a couple of times some mindful local helping some forlorn tourist to get to the other side). The staff at the reception try their best to be efficient and polite, with mixed results, and the bell boys are friendly, especially the one that at night helped me to get my Uber cab. The place needs a general refurbishment, but this seems to be a constant in Egypt. Overall the room was large and clean, the bed comfortable and the bathroom clean enough. The reception area is quite small and tends to become rather smokey. Overall recommended for people without too many expectations and keen to visit the amazing Museum.

Price is reasonable for what you get.
Location is great. near Tahrir square.
Room is large and clean with a refrigerator and well cool A/C. shower and toilet room was clean and maintained. Towels felt a bit overused.
Breakfast is large and includes bread, vegetables, cheese, deserts, drinks, eggs and more. We enjoyed it.
Stuff is English speaking and ready to help.
Wifi signal was stable and work well at the lobby but in our room (9th floor) the signal was weak and not stable.

I will make it simple and put the pros and cons of staying in this 3 star hotel.

Pros:
Perfect location in the middle of Midan Tahrir with a magnificent view of the square from my room window
Friendly staff from the reception to the restaurant and housekeeping.
Large room and electric kettle and bottled water supplied daily.
The hotel is connected to La Poire one of Cairo's better known cafes.

Cons:
Rooms are tired and in desperate need of renovation with stained carpets.
The bathroom leaked from both the sink and the shower. The drain in the shower didn't work and flooded the bathroom everytime I took a shower.
Breakfast was basic and tasteless.

This hotel is not cheap for the mediocre quality it offers and needs renovation soon. Just to add that the clientele was mainly Arab from various Arab countries with some Westerners and Africans.

This is the worst hotel I have stayed in for a long time. We stayed there at the beginning of our stay in Cairo and at the end, and it didn't get any better. They forgot to service the room twice, we asked for some bottled water which took 4 hours and me getting upset it in reception to get, the shower on our second day didn't work properly and they didn't feel inclined to fix it. The breakfast was very average. One day there was no butter or yogurt (they had run out). The waiter and cook at breakfast were friendly but badly lead. The list goes on.

The room we were in was badly set out. The cupboard faced the bed and the space between the bed and it was very narrow. It was difficult to get into the cupboard and the bed.

The hotel is very badly managed and seems to be set up to suit the staff. They are more interested in smoking cigarettes, drinking coffee and watching TV at night.

the restaurant in the lobby, which is not run by the hotel was terrible.

The location seems good on paper but realy is not good from a tourist point of view. It may be better to stay in Gaza.

There is no way I will every stay her again.

Look elsewhere.

We had two rooms that were allocated based on first names. So our daughters were given a room on another floor.

We checked in at 3pm and the housekeeping had not finished our room.

In the bathroom, the sink and vanity were not cleaned. There still used cake of soap and a dirty pair of slippers there. There was no towels, hand towels or floor mats. When this was reported to housekeeping, we given two hand towels, one of which was dirty.

I reported this personally to reception because the phone didn’t work, but it still took an hour for us to be given proper towels.

There were tea making facilities, but no milk was supplied. The bar wanted to charge for a cup of milk. The jug appeared to have been used to heat up food.

After this, the jug didn’t work anyway and there was only one cup in the room.

The traffic noise was extremely loud, but even this was drowned out by the air-con.

The security latch on the door had been removed

This was a really terrible experience. First of all though I want to say the staff were amazing. They were really professional and welcoming. The rest was absolutely awful. I paid 133 a night for three nights for the suite. I’ve never regretted any hotel stay as much as this one and you’ll see I’ve been around. The rooms were very old very damaged very very noisy and the worst value for money I’ve ever spent. It was painful. So many things were broken. There is no sound proofing and the noise from the street was unlike anything I’ve ever known. Please don’t make the mistake of staying here. I’m so sorry and I hate writing this but this hotel cost me more than some of the poshest hotels in cairo. The toilet flushes itself a few minutes after being flushed. The windows are broken and don’t shut. The floors are damaged. The shower door was missing. The socket in the bathroom exploded and smoked for five minutes. There was noise and mess in the bathrooms. The outside of the building was awful. The best thing about it was the lift. It was honestly depressing being in such an old broken room. Lamp shades were all broken too. The sofas old and brick hard. You couldn’t sit on them. It was absolutely awful.

I had to get to room number three before I could say it was habitable for a human being. The first room had major water damage, the second room had mold and fungus all over the bathroom (see attached pics). A staff member told me "we are aware of the issues with the upper floors" yet they try to pass them off to customers anyway. Also, the hotel may accept foreigners but it doesn't cater to them - forget about getting a drink of anything with alcohol in it, and forget about even getting a glass to your room if you plan to self-cater. The hotel only has plastic and paper disposable dixie cups ! They have no ice buckets and the best I could get was a plastic bag full - the place has no class of any kind. I'd suggest the nearby Sheraton or a chain hotel that would not be thinking so regionally. I wouldn't stay there again, sorry.

The area that the hotel is situated is busy and across from tahrir square and the Egyptian museum. That's about all that is positive. Breakfast is typical Arab, with live egg station and pastries. Rooms are semi clean and dusty. While they do make up the bed they do not replace towels or toilet paper. Walk in shower is musty and brown with algae. Would not recommend

Good points end at location … very noisy all night long, old drab decor and furniture, mattresses too hard, no top sheets, had to make our own pillows with clothing. Curtains hanging down as broken, dirty tub chairs that we didn’t want to sit on, & bathroom floor flooded badly with each shower. Smoke filled inside reception area and male staff that can’t return a “good morning” to a female guest. Breakfast buffet was adequate but mostly geared to locals. Overpriced for what you get… needs a revamp asap!

Staff needs urgent training. Aside from one person in the reception, the others were terrible. The one who greeted me in was unwelcoming. After taking my passport information and charging my card, he got a personal phone call and he stepped away leaving me there standing for several minutes without any information from the room or other. When he came back, he rudely said that the bellman would guide me to the room. Staff definitely needs urgent training on manners, politeness and being welcoming in general. Breakfast was terrible. Don't bother to book this hotel with breakfast (they offer a pre-packaged version that is not fresh at all). It is better to go to the small cafe place on the corner that provides excellent options.
