Steigenberger Hotel El Tahrir Cairo is often lauded for its prime central location, offering guests easy access to Cairo's vibrant nightlife and key attractions like the Egyptian Museum. While the hotel's value is generally well-regarded, thanks to its reasonable rates and amenities such as a quality breakfast and spa services, some guests have faced unexpected charges.
The service is typically celebrated for its professionalism; however, occasional delays do occur. Despite some noise complaints, the atmosphere remains welcoming, with an emphasis on cleanliness and comfort that consistently earns praise from travelers.

Ordered the room service for food and it turned out excellent. Good service by Ashraf Yassin. All the in-room dining options are great and prices are also not high, the service is great so why not! :)

Customer service was excellent. The hotel was clean and they made sure the tours we were on were bona fide. Even though it is right in the middle of things, Cairo is not a city that is easy to negotiate on foot. I had envisioned walking to the Egyptian Museum, etc but there was no protected way to cross a street so we ended up taking day tours and eating our meals at the hotel. We are not big eaters so it ended up being cheaper to order a breakfast through room service and sharing it. Very nice hotel.

Hotel was very clean. Rooms were clean and we also saw staff regularly cleaning all surfaces (countertops, chairs, walls, handles, etc.) and public spaces thoroughly with disinfectant. Managers were following them very strictly.
Food at dinner was excellent - very high quality, varied and delicious. Unfortunately, we missed the breakfast buffet as everywhere it was stated that breakfast is served from 6:30-11:00. It actually turned out that buffet is working until 9:30 which was quite disappointing. However, till 11:00 you can still order room service free of charge if breakfast is included in your room rate. We had Steigenberger option which was fantastic, very rich and delicious - toasts, cheese, pastry, coffee, milk, fresh juice, omelette, fruits...
What we did not like about the hotel is that smoking is allowed in the lobby. Staff did not speak English very well and it was very difficult to understand and communicate with them (especially when ordering room service).

I am at a loss to understand how this hotel has such good ratings. Except for the fact it’s next to the museum and has an excellent buffet breakfast, which we paid extra for, this is not a good place to stay. I’m not usually compelled to write a bad review, but the customer service here is among the worst I’ve experienced at any hotel ever. Here are some examples. The first night I went to the bar where two men were cleaning like mad; they didn’t seem very interested in serving me, taking their time to come over, then I had to ask more than once to get a glass of wine and each time they tried to get me to buy a bottle. The next morning when we went to take a shower we found that our room had only two hand towel sized towels for the two of us. There was only one bathrobe in the closet for two people. The room was very dark and dreary and the lighting is so poor in the bathroom that you can’t put on makeup. The beds and pillows aren’t comfortable. The first morning when we were getting ready to go sightseeing the cleaner hounded us, repeatedly asking if he could clean; the second day we came back from sightseeing at 4 pm and the room hadn’t been cleaned. The cleaners and front desk then proceeded to repeatedly wake us up during a late afternoon nap, despite my husband having specifically told them that we were going to be napping. Other interactions with the front desk on different matters where we needed customer assistance (since we don’t speak Egyptian we needed their help)frustrating. Despite having plenty of staff at the front desk one person appears to be doing all the work while the others hover around him, and even small issues appear beyond their ability. We couldn’t leave fast enough.

It's a well located and mostly pleasant hotel. Staff are friendly enough, though restaurant staff are very stone faced and unfriendly. The "bell boy", or door man with the long black coat comes forth as friendly (sometimes overly so) but is actually very condescending, especially towards women. Stay at this hotel longer than 3 nights to understand what I mean... he chased me down the street on our second last day to tell me my attire (a long dress) was not acceptable and I had to go wear something else. Very embarrassing! And then the next morning he clapped his hands at me in 'applause' as I was wearing jeans and jacket. Unprofessional is Not the word I was thinking.
The traffic noise from the street in the pool area is overwhelming; you cannot possibly relax at the pool! Not allowing us to bring water and forcing you to pay too much for it at the pool bar is also a bit over the top.
Do not trust the driver service the hotel may offer you if you enquire; Ali and his service is very dodgy and his drivers will look at many ways to rip you off, even when you paid over LE500 for a three hour trip to your destination of your choice. The drivers cannot be trusted and they will take you to shops/stores you don't want to go to (they get commission and this is well planned in advance of their learning where you want to go). I was ripped off by our driver on 29 February 2020 and even though the hotel night manager was absolutely wonderful in assisting me get my money back, I feel my husband and I should also have been refunded in full or partly for the service in the first place, as technically we did not go to where we'd paid to go.
The laundry services are also not what they seem; all your clothes are dry cleaned, Poorly, and if you were hoping to get your stinky and dusty coat and scarf back smelling fresh and flowery, think again! It was a waste of money.
All in all it's a nice hotel, but we would not stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone based on our experience; I am sorry.

Stayed here in a non-smoking room on Level 10 which was immaculately clean. The windows though need double glazing as the traffic noise comes straight through making it hard to sleep. Cairenes love their horns and let everyone know about it. The breakfast was extremely well presented with many different styles available but in the evening when only wanted to order a la carte it was almost impossible. Finally ordered some soup which took 45 minutes to arrive so cancelled rest of meal as would have been there all night. The buffet dinner was well stocked and flowing well if you wanted that. The location means there is a lot of security with guard dogs and locking gates. Leaving on foot you must go through x-ray and have your bags checked. Well placed to go to the museum just across the road. Note to cross just step out and keep walking - showing any timidness means they will just go around you. If have travelled to Hanoi think of the crossings there except that these are cars and buses not motorbikes.

The hotel is a great hotel that is in a good location in downtown Cairo. It is close to the Egyptian museum, Tahir Square, Sadat subway station. There are local shops all within walking distance. There is a lovely café called La Poire across the street that sells the best pastries and food items. The hotel does serve a good American continental breakfast but that was not included in our booking stay. We did try the hotel breakfast few times and there was a good variety of breakfast options made fresh for you buffet style however for $17 USD per person it was easier for us to go across the street. There is also a McDonald’s close by,
Traffic in Cairo was the only thing that needs some getting use to. Seriously, they drive insane as there are limited traffic lights and lane distinctions. That being said, beside the hotel it can be bit challenging when crossing the road but after a couple of days you get use to the car horns and aggressive driving.
The hotel has good cleaning practices and sanitizers were everywhere, it has excellent spa service even offering a sauna. The gym had new working equipment and was spotless, the pool upstairs was pretty with a bar for drinks. The business centre had two computers and was easy to print boarding passes and other documents for travelling during COVID Times. The internet throughout the hotel was strong never dropped once and security was top notch. I felt secure in the hotel and before we entered the facility. The Customer service was exceptional when we arrived they provided us with a heater in our room as it was a bit cold. We arrived in February and it was colder than we had anticipated. The heater in the room made our stay so much more comfortable.
Just a reminder that smoking is permitted in Egypt indoors, that being said people smoke everywhere, for example in the lobby, in bedrooms, elevators etc. The hotel did a good job with minimizing the smoking.
Overall It was an amazing stay with great staff that spoke good English and were attentive and friendly. I would definitely recommend this hotel due to the location, security and staff!

I stayed at your hotel in November, departing on November 8, 2019, as part of a group with Odynovo. I purchased 14 postcard stamps and some post cards at your shop in the hotel and gave them to your concierge to mail for me. These post cards have not arrived in the USA, to date Jan. 10. 2020. I paid about $25.00 US for those stamps and post cards and had faith that your concierge person would mail them for me. It appears that this has not been done yet and I would like to know why. Why has this small service not done yet. I would appreciate a refund for the cost to mail the cards and the cards themselves. That would probably be around $35 for cards and stamps.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Although I have not stayed in other hotels in Cairo, I think the Steigenberger is a reliable option at a great location for a reasonable price. The Egyptian museum is accross the road and the downtown area is great for strolling around. The hotel is a fairly standard international hotel that looks nice from outside and quite acceptable inside. The rooms are fine, though the sound isolation of the windows could be better. Breakfast was the real highlight with a fantastic spread of food on offer and outstanding serice at the table (some more coffee sir?, I love it!). Check in can be approved upon, as it took forever and the requests made when making the reservations seem to have been ignored (requested interconnecting rooms, but no notice seems to have been taken).

We enjoyed this hotel when we visited in late August. Good Covid measures in place, helpful staff and located just five minutes walk (or less) from the Egyptian Museum and Tahoe Square close to the Nile.
This is a modern well run hotel with a lovely pool on its roof. Our room was clean comfortable and well maintained and the deal we had was amazingly good value.
Can’t comment on the food as we didn’t take what looked to be an over-priced breakfast. Plenty of places to eat within a few minutes walk.

No but you will need a pcr test 72 hours before flight, or Antigen 24 hours.
Not a regular shuttle. But I'm sure if you email the hotel they will arrange a car (at a cost) to come get you.
You can use either one. Both options are available.
