Since we enjoyed our stay at Hotel Rian back in 2018 we decided to return here for our recent four night stay as we love the Jongno neighbourhood. Very little has changed since then apart from breakfast not being offered, instead there are two microwaves in the building for guests to use which we found valuable.
Our corner room was compact with large bed, chair, table, storage space and a wetroom bathroom. The bed and pillows were comfortable, we could not sleep with the windows open due to the constant motor sound in the neighbourhood, fortunately the room was cool enough as the quilt was too warm. Daily room cleaning was excellent. The hotel tariff was well priced. The hotel is well located within easy walking distance to the metro, Cheonggyecheon Stream, attractions/cafes/restaurants/convenience stores. A good stay.

Comfortable hotel in the center, very close to Gyeongbokgung Palace, Gwanghwamun Square, Jongmyo Shrine and many other cultural landmarks, shops and restaurants. A good base to explore the city. Room was big and comfortable and the wifi was good.
My flight was quite late in the night so I was able to leave my luggage at the hotel after check-out so I could explore more of the city and came back later to pick up my things and head home.

I stayed at Rian Hotel from 18Jan to 21 Jan 2015 and before arriving Seoul, was reading this forum to get exact location unsuccessfully. So for future travellers, this is the direction: when you get down from the airport bus no. 6002, look for the shop 15ST JEWELRY with a circled "15" in orange. It is just infront of the busstop. Beside it is a narrow alley. Enter this alley and walk for 1 min until you reach the road. When you look up you can see the hotel as it is taller than other buildings and it s next to Doulos Hotel. By subway, go to exit 15. The bus stop and subway exit 15 are near to each other. Lots of korean restaurants and grilled mackerel by the alley!

I have been living in Korea for a while. I relinquished my apartment on the 1st of August and booked Rian to last until my flight back to the U.S. Upon arrival the desk clerk asked my cab driver if I was the only one (to which the answer is yes). Then he proceeds to ask why I had so many bags (two check in and one carry-on). The cab driver, to his credit, did not dignify the clerk with a response and didn’t take part at laughing at me. This has got to be the rudest start to a hotel stay. My room is non-refundable or else I’d cancel. First impressions are everything and if your staff can’t be professional and respectful then...the poor rating is deserving. I’ll take this moment to suggest G2 hotel (which isn’t too far from Rian) for a beautiful stay. They were booked so I chose Rian as a second option—what a mistake. Take it from this frequent traveler—bypass this hotel.

On the recommendation of TA reviews, I placed a booking for two nights as I wanted a reasonably priced hotel near Insadong (the cultural, arts district). I wasn't disappointed.

Well serviced by #6002 airport limousine (10,000 KW one way at 15-minute intervals), it has a major subway station (Jongno 3) with 3 major lines. Lots of buses ply the main road.

The hotel is located in an area where there are lots of shops selling trophies, plaques (the stuff you give for recognition) and at night, a side lane bustles with long queues waiting to feast on delicious pork hot pots).

The hotel is tall enough to be visible from the main street, and you navigate the small lane (which is the 18th street). Some reviews had expressed safety concerns walking along this lane. I had no problems walking alone at night past 11 pm and certainly not at 5 am going to the main road to catch the airport bus. People were already walking around getting to work.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and can converse in simple English. Breakfast is available at a discount at the hotel, but you can easily find (cheaper) breakfast in Seoul in the morning from either roadside vendors or fast food restaurants.

My room was clean and well maintained. I went in winter and the floor was heated. Enough amenities if you do not have any - shampoo, soap, body wash etc. Kettle, cups and a refrigerator. There were two armchairs and bedroom slippers. All in all, very adequate. The water was hot and pressure strong for both the rain shower and shower spray. No complaints here.

Housekeeping was efficient, and cleaned the room well. I normally tip the housekeepers each day for their efforts.

Insadong is within walking distance. Dongdaemun is only a couple of stops on the train, and Myeongdong is also not too far (I walked to Myeongdong), and you get to see the Cheonggyecheon stream along the way. Plenty of local food within a 10-minute radius, and you will not starve if you are not averse to local food. There are cafes for those that prefer that.

I had booked the hotel two months before my actual travel, and they allowed me in my reservation to cancel without penalty if I gave them a few days notice ahead of my first day.

Definitely glad I picked up this gem from other reviewers here.

This is a new hotel opened in Feb 2014... Room size is just fit but I wanna appreciate how amazing of their service... We don't have language barriers since they can speak in Korean, English and Mandarin... Also, I located near exit 14,15 of Jongno(Sam) ga... Just 1 mins walk from the exit... From the airport, u can take airport shuttle 6002 directly to there... Since it is too close to the shopping area (Meyong dong & Dongdaemun), it's realli suitable for anyone who loves to shop... Btw, I'm still staying there and can't wait to share the comment to everyone...

A few minutes walk to the subway, through some alleys, hotel is new and clean. There's a business room where you can get some free coffee. Location is very good, lots of cafes and restaurants nearby: Starbucks, MacD, Angel-in-us coffee, Paris Baguette.

Here's our experience with the Ri'an Hotel: -

1) Front Desk
Felt so unwelcoming upon arrival, after a night flight.
The reception team was totally so unfriendly and unwelcoming!
On 1 occasion, we asked the front desk if we could have a bottle of drinking water
as we forgotten ours, the lady told us it's chargeable at KRW1,000 per bottle. :(

2) The Room
The room was quite reasonably sized with a double & single beds, little sitting area,
separate toilet and bathroom.

3) Amenities
Slippers, shampoo & shower gel (installed on the wall kind) ~ bring your own if you
are not use to such kind. Bottled drinking water x 3 per day only, any extra request
will be charged at KRW1,00 per bottle.

4) Flaws
The louvered blinds do not serve the purpose as it can't completely block off the
sunlights in the morning.

The bathroom's drainage is terribly bad ~ it got flooded after each person's shower ~
the next person got to wait for the flood to clear all the time during our 4 nights' stay.

The towels were so old ~ yellowish with stains

The white lights in the room make everyone felt so comfortable + so tiring for the
eyes.

The TV remote controller is labelled in Korean which serves no purpose to tourists
who don't read Korean at all. So it really doesn't matter if the TV is 32" 40"!!

The toilet flush went off so many times when nobody was in the toilet and in the
middle of the nights.

The air-con leaked so badly during the last 2 nights.

Overall, this is really a very disappointing hotel as it did not seem, feel quite the same from what we saw on the pictures, websites or at least close. We depended very much on all the reviews as this was the first time we travelled to Seoul on our own. However, the reviews from the booking, travel websites really misled us. There are many better hotels in the vicinity actually.

On the good side, this hotel is strategically located near to exit 15 (via escalator) of Jongno 3-ga station, airport bus station, 7-eleven, several eateries.

My family and I stayed there for one week from July 31 to August 6 this year. I wanted this travel to be special because it's a gift to my daughter who had always wanted to be in my home country. Despite a lof of good reviews on the Internet, this hotel has many things to be desired.

First of all, the bathroom of the room 408 where my daughter and her husband stayed had a bad smell. When I realized this, it was our 5th night at the hotel, so my daughter didn't want to move to another room.I asked her why she hadn't told me or the hotel staff about the stinky sewerage smell in the bathroom. She said she thought all the bathrooms at this hotel had that smell!!

Moreover, when we returned from our sighseeing downtown, the rooms had not been cleaned yet.I complained about the dirty rooms, but the hotel staff said that they had all the room occupied, so they hadn't had the time to clean our rooms. We had to go to the 10th floor and waited until the rooms were cleaned.

Before booking rooms at this hotel, I had searched a lot of hotels in Seoul and chose this hotel considering that this hotel was built last year and has a good location. However I regret having
stayed at this hotel! If I ever go back to Seoul, I will never stay here.

The location of this hotel is excellent. Close to the subway and walking distance to Insadong, Meyondong and some of the palaces. However it was down a narrow winding lane. As a lone female traveller this worried me when I forst arrived – however I found if you access the hotel from Donhwamun-ro or Supyo-ro it was much better than from Jong-ro.
The room was very good - modern and clean. I think the hotel is quite new and all the fixtures were new.
The breakfast was lovely. It didn’t offer the range at one of the big multinational chains, but there was something for everyone and plenty to eat.
There was no evening restaurant or room service etc – but that was fine for me.
There are a number of shops and restaurants nearby – so everything could be found in easy reach.

Take the #6002 airport bus and after 70 minutes get off at the “Jongno 3-ga” bus stop. Look left and you'll see a small alley on your right with a big red 약 (pharmacy) sign. Go into the alley and bear right when you come across a "Y", and the hotel is there. The #6002 stop to Inchon Airport is just across the street.
