This hotel was located between Dongdaemun and Uljiro 4, so the location was good near Gwangjng market and many traditional market. The room and the inside was a little old, but it was good with good price. The front was kind, and the hotelgenerally normal to us. The price and the location was good, but the rest was normal.

I stayed here for three weeks. The hotel is very clean and has everything you need in the room, including a refrigerator, microwave, and kitchenette. My room came with a shower instead of a bath (I'm not sure there are any rooms with a bath), and that was a bit of an annoyance for a three-week stay, but otherwise the room was acceptable. The high-speed internet connection is cabled but I had no problems with it. Make sure you bring shampoo and toiletries, because the hotel doesn't supply more than soap and toilet paper. There are laundry faciilties on every fourth floor, and they work well for a total of 2,500 won (1,000 to wash and 1,500 to dry).

My main hesitation about recommending this hotel has to do with the location. It's located near Dongdaemun Stadium, just at the edge of a huge shopping district that's always bustling. It's a safe neighborhood, and there are plenty of places to eat, but it's a lengthy subway ride away from most of the major sites, and the benefit of the kitchenette is severely limited by the fact that there's no grocery store within walking distance.

The other nuisance was that the chambermaids seem to be under strict orders to throw open the windows whenever they clean your room; that means every time I came back in the afternoon, my room was buzzing with two or three ravenous mosquitoes. If that's the M.O., the hotel has to install bug screens in the windows.

The greatest plus point about Western Coop is the convenient access from Incheon Airport to the door step of the hotel via Airport Limousine 6001, for both pick up and drop off. You can purchase the tickets at the Airport Booth, and the return trip just buy directly from the bus driver.

Very good base for shopoholics:
- 5 min walk to Dongdaemun fashion district of Doota, APM, Migloire etc and lots of eateries
- 5 min walk to nearest metro line 2,4 and 5. Can access via a underground shopping plaza after Ulijiro Co-op
- Convenience store right next to the lobby of the hotel
- 2 metro stations away from Myeong-dong, and direct train line to Lotte World and Everland stations.
- 5 min walk to Seoul City Tour Bus stop at the new cultural park.

Room:
- Conditions were very clean, modern and acceptable size for a triple room.
- Wired Internet access were consistent.
- Room service on alternate days but they will change dirty towels and bins every day
- water cooler on every floor and complimentary bottled water.

Downside:
- front desk service was not very friendly.
- front desk did not pick up call when needed during stay
- safe box in room was not working
- only 1 access room card was issued.
- bathroom was terribly small, without bath tub.
- no toiletries provided
- no early check-in, late check out.

Will return to Western Co-op provided the Airport Limousine is still around.

I stayed at this hotel with my sister and parents (4 adults) in the family room. It was a very good value since it's very difficult to find a room that will accomodate 4 adults in Seoul.

Location: Airport Limousine Bus 6001 stops right in front of the hotel. The stop is called "Acasia hotel/Western Co-Op". I was worried about missing the stop, but it turned out that each stop was announced in several languages including English so it's very easy. The hotel was a 10 mins walk from Dondaemung shopping area. There were also a bunch of restaurants in that area including some that open for 24 hours. We walked there for dinner and continue on for late night shopping several evenings.

Transportation: It was super easy to get taxi. Just walked outside of the hotel, and waved. We always managed to get a taxi in less than 1 minute. I believe the subway station is pretty close to the hotel as well, but we didn't use the subway since the taxi rate was so cheap, especially since we have 4 people. It costs around 3000 Won (< US 3.00) to go to Myeongdong area using taxi.

Room: The family room has 1 double bed and 2 single beds. It also includes a kitchenette (including a pot which we used to cook instant noodle). Microwave is available as well. Bathroom is decent sized. In the winter, the hotel doesn't turn on air condition. We did open the window one night because the room felt a little too warm. Overall, I think the room is big enough for 4 people and very clean. It's nothing fancy but met my expectations.

Service: There's a 24 hours front desk, and the staffs were courteous. I asked one of them to help me translate & write down the locations names in Korean and they were helpful.

Overall, I would recommend this place, especially for family with more than 2 people that wish to stay in the same room.

2 tips:
1) Bring your own shampoo/conditionals (or buy one from the convenient store downstair), as only soap is provided.
2) If you don't speak Korean, you may want to ask the front desk to translate & write down in Korean the places you wish to visit if you're planning to take taxi. We didn't do that on the first day and we have some difficulties communicating with the taxi driver. It was a breeze with the Korean names written down to show to the taxi driver. Also, get a card from the hotel that showed the hotel name & location/directions in Korean.

Overall, my wife and I were very pleased with our 4-night stay at the Western Co-op Residence. I'll try and keep this short and sweet:

Pros:

- Superb location. If you're expecting to stay somewhere in the heart of the city centre then this may not be the place for you. From our perspective, it was ideal because it was only a 3-5 minute walk from the bustling Dongdaemun shopping area and the Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station (formerly Dongdaemun Stadium Station), but far enough away from it to avoid the noise and lights from the area. Bearing in mind that the Dongdaemun area is notorious for its late night shopping, dining and entertainment (the shopping centres close around 4:30 a.m.!), this makes the Western Co-op even more attractive, as you can enjoy the sights and sounds in other areas in Seoul earlier on in the day, then finish off at night in Dongdaemun and you'd only be a few minutes walk from the hotel. Another plus is that the Airport Limousine stops directly outside the hotel, and there is a bus every 30 minutes approximately.

- Overall, the hotel was very clean and tidy. The rooms were fairly big and spacious. We stayed in a room on the 12th floor, and had a decent view of the neighbouring area. The bed was big, and the room had the following facilities: TV with approx. 50 free channels including international news channels, fridge, cooking hob, range hood, kettle, toilet and shower with hair dryer, internet line and central heating (which was more than adequate despite the outdoor temperature being between -7 to 10 degrees c on average).

- There is a daily cleaning service where they tidy the room and replace towels. They supply indoor slippers and soap in the toilets, and there is also complimentary water and tea and coffee sachets, together with cooking utensils, but note that (1) they do not clean your dishes and (2) they do not supply any toiletries other than soap - there is no toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo etc., which I think is fair and legitimate.

- There is a decent-sized 24-hour convenient store located next to the lobby of the hotel (the Family Mart) where you can pick up anything from food, drink, toiletries, batteries, cigarettes and perhaps more important, T-Money cards, which are stored-value cards for payment use on virtually all modes of transport.

Cons:

In all fairness, the pros far outweigh the cons in my opinion, but if I had to be pedantic, I would make the following comments and observations:

- While the central heating is more than sufficient, it can get extremely stuffy and dry, sometimes even too hot in the rooms, and there is little you can do to adjust the temperature - my wife and I had to rely on opening the window to let fresh air in to cool the room.

- There was a safe provided in the room, but it didn't work, so we had to take valuables with us everywhere we went (although in fairness, we didn't take this up with the hotel and most people would prefer not to keep valuables in hotel rooms anyway).

- There is free high speed internet provided in the room, but comes in the form of a line and not wi-fi or wireless. Due to the design of the room (there is an oriental style screen wall that partially separates the sleeping area from the rest of the room, you cannot use your laptop to surf the net in bed, and instead are confined to the work desk in the other part of the room. Not a big issue I suppose, but since I had to reply work emails at night after sightseeing, it would have been nice to be able to work in bed and in front of the television, and not be restricted to the work desk.

- Perhaps our biggest gripe against the hotel is the service of the front desk staff. Language issues aside, their attitude can at best be described as casual and laid back. We noticed a rack full of day tour services in the lobby and found one spot which we wanted to visit. Due to the location of the attraction, advanced booking was required - and although the information was in English, the tour operator only spoke Korean and Japanese, so we asked the lad at the front desk if he could help us call and book places. Clearly upset at being distracted from playing with his PSP, he was less than helpful - he didn't know enough about the location or have information on hand and when we asked if he could call to ask or book a place for us, he politely refused on the grounds that he did not think the office would be open and didn't offer any further advice or assistance. (On a side note, when we prepared for departure, the front desk staff also failed to provide us with or locate a timetable for the airport limousine back to the airport, only telling us that 'they arrive every 30 minutes or so'). Thankfully, there is a tourist information office located near exit 13 and 14 of the Dongdaemun History & Culture Park underground station in the centre of the Dongdaemun shopping precinct and the ladies in there were extremely helpful and managed to book us a place. I would strongly recommend any visitors seeking information and advice to go and pay them a visit as they are extremely friendly and helpful, and speak a range of languages, from English to Chinese to Thai.

That said, I am more than aware that hotels in Seoul are much like hotels in Taipei - they are not particularly famous for their service, merely price and location, and overall, it was still a very pleasant stay.

Hope you all find this helpful.

Ok may be I can not say here that the place is too small, I can not compare as this is the first 'hotel' that I ever stay in Seoul. I dont have much to complain about this place but will still write to share how we feel about this place. It did meet our basic requirement. And that is value for money, clean and quiet.

On our first day of our arrival, we were promptly served but not warmly. We are a family of 5, the Suite provide us a double bed and 2 single beds. When we check in, the first reception lady refuse to give us an additional 'bed' as she said it will be too cramp for our room. She did not suggest for any other option. When we went up to the room, we really agree, there is not way our suite room can accomodate another single bed as there will hardly any walking area left.To me, I feel a family of 5 is definitely too small. Unlike from the picture I see in their official web site. There is no room divider in the suite and there is no existence of a kitchen table. However they do have a big low table that still serve our needs. The kitchen is really right infront of our 2 single beds. A bit disappointed I must say. The television is small and only a handful of the channels are clear. We were still delighted as without our request, we still get to check at 1 pm even thought our voucher said 3pm and the room is really clean.

On the next day, we realize that we need at least an extra pillow and blanket so went down to the reception to request for them. He suggested he can not give us any but can get the whole set including a thin floor mattress if I pay about Won $31000 for the 6 days.
Very quickly, the whole set of 'bed' is sent to our room. Happily my girl get to sleep on the soft comfortable floor mattress. Wish they should have suggest this option on our first day.

Kitchen:
The pan and spatula is not in our room, we have to go down to request from them. Stove is very easy operate and safe. Did not have a chance to use the microwave. Fridge is working but not very cold. Washing dishes detergent and sponge is provided.
Kitchen tap have hot and cold water. There are 4 sets of bowls, plates, forks, spoons, chopsticks. Drawers and cupboards have no smell even they are mostly empty.

Bathroom:
Toilet is small but adequate. Showers have glass door which is great. But the hot water dont really work so well. Have to run the water for a while before the hot water flow is stable. But the flow is strong. Soap, hairdryers and extra towels are in the bathroon cabinet.

Bed:
Not really comfortable. As can feel some of part of the bed have 'loose' spring. But the single beds are fine. And the blankets are really comfortable. But they are a bit dusty for some reason although they appear clean.

Shelves are great as they have a lot of space, but not much floor space to put all our luggage. Love the shoes shelves. The slippers look used. So did not use them thought they are provided.

Housekeeping:
Did their jobs. But they only do the beds on alternate days. Sometimes Double bed sometimes single beds. But definitely replace the towels, clean the floor and kitchen and clear the bins.

Others:
Food:
Lot of eating place there but not in the hotel. Hotel do provide Breakfast . Very basic like sausages, eggs, cereals, milk, orange, instand soup(need to make yourself)
A small convenience store that sell basic just a short distance away.

Underpass:
There is an underpass that is near the hotel that leads to the subway but too many stairs to climb. But not an issues if you used to climb stair. I have found out the underpass is rather useful to go to malls that is across the road and safe from the winter wind.

Dongaemun Station Subway:
Very useful and easy. Line 2 and Line 4. There are English options to purchase the tickets. Metro Attendants are around when we were there if we need help.
Think the station is still upgrading the walls. If done will look much cleaner and brighter.
There are many exit from the station. So choose wisely. There may be an escalator in other exit of the subway which is slightly further down the hotel but it was not working when we were 8 days there. But the lift there is working though. But we did not use it as we prefer to use the exit 12 which is nearer to the hotel.

English option ATM machine:
Can be found in the nearby malls. So cash withdrawal is easy.

Check out
By the way, the check out is easy. Very fast, finished in a min. We did extend our stay for another 2 hrs after we paid about a few thousand won. MY JUMBO taxi is booked by the staff and cost $90 000 won. And the taxi arrived half an hr early.

Staff:
They are not really warm. To me, they are still basically helpful, and professional. Some of the staffs help to direct me to some attractions that I enquire and book a JUMP show and got a 10% discount for it being their guests.

last year I stayed at Sejong Hotel and this time I chose Western Co-Op Residence. I know that these 2 hotels are different ranking. Anyway, I found good comments for Co-Op from travellers posted on trip advisor. Then, I tried this hotel in my January trip.

From airport, we took airport bus #6001 and got off in the front of Western Co-Op Residence. It is more convenient compared w/ Acacia Hotel coz i saw this hotel locate at 1 or 2 street beyond. Hotel staff are helpful and can speak fluent English.

This hotel is nearby Dongdaemun, travellers will not disappointed if like to buy clothes. Besides, my fd & i tried a sauna which located at 12/F of Cerestar. From hotel, we only spent 5-10 mins walk. Cerestar is easy to find coz it located near Doonsan, Hello apm etc. The sauna is good and there are 8 different sauna rooms, a large sitting room for sleeping in there too. It costs 4,000won if you get in after 8am.

If take metro, we only spent 8 mins from hotel to the metro station named "Dongdaemun Histical & Cutural Park" gate 12. If take taxi from Lotte Mart (Seoul station) to hotel, it costs only 6,600 won. Don't worry if taking a bulk of sourvenirs from Lotte Mart to hotel.

For room, it is a bit spacious than my thought (haaahaaa........as i think it is a small room for Co-Op). It is clean & tidy.

I stayed in this service apartment for 3 nites. I took airport bus No.6001 and it took me 1.5 hrs from Incheon Airport right to the entrance of the apartment. The basic facilties are present, like slippers and soap. No other toiletries, but that's fine with me. The room is clean and cozy...very near to Dongdaemun market and a street filled with eateries. A convenient store is right beside the apartment. A good choice for travellers.

To answer the 2nd part 1st, yes there are 4 wifi routers on each floor and reception is good and fast. Korea has very high speed internet. I'm not sure about a military discount, but they do have very affordable rates, and are very close to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers FED Counpound. I'd certainly ask about it. Good Luck.
