Me and my girlfriend went to Korea last Nov 20 to Nov 26, 2016. We thought of booking via AirBnB but one of my officemates recommended Yim's Haus, so we booked a room there. We were not able to locate the place immediately but eventually we did manage to find it. We met the owner Mr. Yim and he was...

Yim's House is also called Yim House. It's run by two brothers and the son of one of them. it is located in a quiet alley off the main road. There are one or two small lodgings nearby. The location is ideal for visiting three of the four main palaces in Seoul. One is five minutes walk away from Yim!...

I came back and stayed this time on my own. Amazing how they remembered me from the last time I was there with a friend. As usual the friendly staff and the cozy feel of the hotel was the major plus for me. My room is cleaned daily and I really appreciate it. Being close to all the tourist attractions...

Just stayed here 6 nights in October 2015, and I was more than satisfied with the place. First to mention is it's great location, few steps from Changdeokgung, about 10 minutes from Insadong and Gyongbokgung palace, and you can reach 3 metro lines within 10 minutes walk. Just a perfect starting point to explore the wonderful city of Seoul. The...

the staff were so helpful at Yim's House and gave us tips on where to go. The rooms are small but very clean - just what we were looking for. The only thing they could add is a place to have coffee and a simple breakfast. John, one of the staff, was fantastic. He drew mud maps of places we...

After 2 years, i came again to Seoul Korea. First travel was on 2013. Frankly, Seoul are really close to my heart. Felt very comfortable during my stay. Definitely without any doubt Yims House is my priority option for accommodation. As previous years, kindness of Yims House staffs still remain unchanged. A Short walk from the subway station, across the street and about 300 meters from the front gate of the Changdeokgung palace make for a fantastic location. We found the staff were amazingly helpful in showing us what to see and how to do it cheaply. In all of our travels we have never run in to this degree of...

Me and the wife stayed at this place for a long weekend. Despite the hostel being down a small quiet street, it was relatively easy to find. And was in an excellent location near the main shopping area and tourist hotspots. When checking in we found the staff at Yim's House were friendly and willing to help us and provided...

Staying in Gwanghwamun / Jongno

Neighbourhood Profile
Gwanghwamun / Jongno
If Gwanghwamun is the unofficial living room of Seoul, Jongno is the main hallway connecting some of Seoul’s most important historic sites and neighbourhoods. Being one of Seoul’s oldest neighbourhoods, the area is rich with history and culture in its palaces, shrines, and temples. Stand in the centre of Gwanghwamun Square with Gyeongbokgung Palace and Mt. Bugak in front of you, King Sejong the Great statue behind you, and modern office buildings encircling you—it’s one of the best ways to experience both past and present Seoul in one spot. The main street of Jongno is mostly dotted with restaurants and cafes, but explore deeper within its intricate alleys to pass decades-old restaurants, mom-and-pop shops, and pojangmachas (tents that open at night for quick bites and drinks) and life seems to run just as it did a decade or two ago. Don’t forget to stop at Gwangjang Market, Korea’s oldest traditional market, where it’s just as fun to explore as it is to eat the affordable market dishes that locals have been enjoying since the market first opened in 1905. For a break from urban life, walk along the restored Cheonggyecheon Stream that runs parallel to Jongno for a moment of natural refuge in metropolitan Seoul.
