The Rex Hotel is central to many of Seoul's highlights including N Seoul Tower (10 minute walk to lift), Namdaemun Markets (across road, 5 minute walk), Seoul P.O. (10 min walk) and Myeungdong shopping area (15 minute walk). There is also a subway station 5 minutes fom the front door. Service was excellent with the manager approachable on any issue we had. While we only had breakfast at the hotel during our 6 day stay service and choice was excellent. During our two part stay our first room was on the sixth floor overlooking the side-street. The room was a nice size and all basic facilities were at hand. The one issue was no internet which was an issue as this was a working holiday. There was, however, a computer in the lobby, providing you were prepared to wait (on occasions).
Our second room was on the fourth floor and was smaller than the first. While it was adequate it felt rather cramped - we missed the larger room!
The hotel also has its own souvenir shop which was quite well priced and had some unique stock at reasonable prices.
Ovrall we enjoyed our stay at the 'Rexy' and would stay there again. Main issue - limited internet facilities.....

this was my second trip to Seoul
the first time i stayed in Gangnam gu
this time in Jung gu (where Rex hotel is located)

Rex hotel is not a luxury hotel but it offers a lot

GREAT LOCATION!
- just a few meters from a taxi stand and subway
- just a few meters from (just across!) Shinsegae Department Store (main) for luxury shopping (and there are restaurants in the top floor too)
- just a few minutes walk from the very famous myeongdong tourist and shopping district for shopping, restaurants, cafes, theater, etc.
- there is a family mart convenience store just outside rex hotel
- there are small restaurants and cafes around the hotel
- near taxi ride to other tourist sites and shopping:
1. Namsan Tower, 2. Cheonggyecheon stream/plaza 3. Dongdaemun, 4. Korean Traditional Village, 5. Hongdae, 6. Coex, etc.

ROOM
(i stayed in a deluxe double room)
- the room is spacious and the bed is large enough
- large window for a good view
- large flatscreen tv
- very spacious closet with hangers
- spacious bathroom with toiletries and blow drier provided
- there's a mini bar/ fridge

SERVICE
- good housekeeping. they change towels, sheets, etc. everyday.
- staffs were nice and helpful.
i arrived at past 8am. it was too early to check in yet but i asked if i could check in early because i was exhausted.
the reception staff did his best to have my deluxe double room prepared as soon as possible. i had my breakfast in hotel's restaurant then i was able to rest in my room at around 10am.

FOOD
- i only ate in the hotel twice, once in the restaurant and once had room service. food is ok.

We booked a twin standard room. Room sizes are okay, big enough to accommodate 2 persons. Bathroom comes with a heated toilet seat with automatic water and dryer and a bath tub. Toiletries are initially provided. Room cleaning is done on a daily basis, whetther you light up the "make-up room" or not. Towels are changed daily too. Location is great, close to shopping centers and the N.Seoul Tower and the subway train station. Reception staff are pleasant and can understand and speak English.

Downside is no floor mat is provided in the bathroom, toiletries supplies(shampoo, lotion, toner) are not refilled though a roll of toilet paper is given daily. Only one pillow on the bed. And worst of all is the airconditioning which seems not to work. We were told that it is turned on and off every 2 hours but depends on the temperature outside, sometimes it's not turned on anymore. With the pricey room rates they have, the least that can be provided is a cold comfortable room with the aircon running. For 6 nights we have to sleep opening the window so that fresh air would come in and it will be cold in the room. Also, no free bottled water, no complimentary tea or coffee nor breakfast included. For P5k a night room rate, I think it should come with at least some freebies.

This hotel is a bit old but it is still functioning properly. It has all the basic amenities that one would require. Competent and helpful staff, clean rooms and bathrooms, air conditioning, a restaurant, a business center, and a souvenir shop. Despite what others say about this hotel about not having toiletries, that is not true. Our rooms are replenished with necessary hotel room items on a daily basis. I am sensitive to allergens and during my stay here I did not experience any allergies like sneezing, runny nose, or itchy eyes. The bed is comfortable. Did i say that the front desk staff were all very kind and helpful? The location is near myeongdong which is a plus if you want to go shopping. It is also a stones throw away from Seoul tower (which is an amazing attraction). also, what's amazing is that the hotel has got free and fast wifi! I will definitely recommend and stay at Hotel Rex the next time I visit seoul again.

P.S. You might want to bring an extension cord with multiple slots in them because the rooms seriously lack power outlets. other than that, the hotel is A-OKAY!

Location is strategic; there are taxis pool in the main road which is nearby hotel. Certainly u can go to incheon using taxi instead bus (if u have >2 ppls). Room is terribly bad, dim light, worn carpet, no free mineral water, service is not friendly, and there is unpicked food near shoe places (slime on the food).

Hotel rating is overated given its current state of condition.

It has long past its glorious peak, hotel location is good and worth commendation, in between Myeongdong and Seoul stations. Opposite the hotel is Namdeman.

There are few 24 hours convenience stores (including one local family run store) and eateries around.

Walking distance to many places, if you are willing to walk.

Hotel is dated with musky smell and heavywooded furniture, staff are not exactly foreigner friendly. The corridors are dimly lited.

Room size is good, but everything else remains in 70s or 80s. A perfect set for filming horror movie.

Shower curtain has turn mouldy and yellow.

No bath mat or anti-slip mat provided in the bathroom and bath tub.

Hot and cold water pressure is good.

In-room slippers appear disgusting.

There are only 2 usable power sockets in the room (which requires adapter that you can borrow from front desk with a 5,000 won refundable deposit).

No in-room safe provided, valuables are to deposit with front desk.

No air-conditioning available in the room, only warm air. You have to open the window to let cold air in. Staff will bring you a fan if you find it warm.

My room heater was down when we check in, staff took almost an hour to resolve. The control panel buttons are falling apart.

Air-conditioning is only available at lobby.

Hotel lift cannot take more than 5/6 persons together, the overload warning will come on.

There are pimps around the hotel in the evening soliciting, they only approach male travellers.

Rex Hotel do not provide toothbrush or toothpaste.

== General Note ==

Most Korean hotels do not provide toothbrush and toothpaste (some do give toothpaste though).

Most places including public transport are not elderly or disabled friendly.

Good if you can speak some Mandarin, you have higher chance of communicating with a Korean who can speak Mandarin. English is not widely understood compared to Mandarin.

Very convenient, 10 min walk to myeongdong, hoeyeon subway ext 1 is only 2 min walk, only problem is the limo airport bus stop(6015) is quite far to walk to the hotel. The nearest stop is outside Korean bank and can easily get lost coz there are some many cross over roads.
Our room is decent size and seem clean, but their hot water was terrible, when taking a shower the water turns very hot then cold continually, hot, cold, hot cold! Overall the price is worth it for its location.

My friend and I stayed at the Rex earlier this month.....and had a positive experience...some of the reviews had us a bit worried after we booked, so we were very pleased to fi d that when we DID have a problem with a stopped up drain the first night, there was a maintenance men at our door in under five minutes! The staff were very friendly and helpful when we asked directions..and we can reaffirm what others have said: the location is great. The Rex is perfectly positioned for shopping, catching a bus to Incheon airport...and wandering around...

Not a bad location as within 10 minutes walk away from the bustling Myeongdong area. Room and bathroom was clean.

Seems to cater more for Japanese guests as they greeted me in Japanese when I approached the reception. They also only provide adapters suited for Japanese plugs. Oh.... of which they said they'd run out of. My friend actually had an adapter with her but coz of the silly design of the power sockets in the room, it wasn't easy to use her own adapter hence why we asked for an adaptor from the hotel, to no avail.... *sigh*.

The receptionists don't speak much English either and won't spring to ur attention when u approach them.

Old room furniture and carpet. Seems like early 70s style. Wooden console in headboard must have been out of order for years. It was a relic. Some of the furniture seemed so old that it did not seem cleanable although the bed and sheets were clean. No iron available in the hotel ( not just the room). No internet available in the hotel ( not just in the room). The English level of the staff was close to zero. When I said "train station" the three of them huddled around me but did not know what I was saying even when I wrote it. The older guy seemed to be the best one to help. The location was great. Near a great shopping area and very close to the subway and close to the center of town. Nice privately run coffee shop out the back side of the hotel.
