The Cara Motel is located on a side street filled with 'love motels." It is a good spot for tourists though because an MRT station is right outside the back door. It is convenient to both local food shops and western chains, both traditional and modern shopping and since it is in Jongno-gu, it is fairly close to the major... More

Located near mrt. Quite old. But no frills. Stayed in deluxe double. TV had free sex channels. That's why it's a motel. Lolx Surrounded by food! No worries of lacking late night supper... If u need daily cleaning, need to tell them.

We decided to book this hotel expecting a budget hotel with the bare necessities. We got the bare necessities, but in Korea there is a big difference between a "Hotel" and a "Motel". Be careful when you book your stay. A motel, as you may have known, is a Love Motel. Lesson learned there. The staff was relatively helpful. When... More

Received a great rate from this motel($40/night). Its in acceptable shape and decently clean. Not luxurious by any stretch. Desk staff spoke enough English and it was easy enough to get to the subway. The location is a little tucked away in an alley but the directions I received with my reservation were accurate.

To be honest, I ended up in the Cara motel by accident after getting off at the wrong train station at night and not finding any other rooms available. A 10,000 won (approx. US$10) taxi ride from Seoul Station got me dropped off in front of an alley just off a teeming street lined on both sides with "pojang machas",... More

Staying in Gwanghwamun / Jongno

Neighbourhood Profile
Gwanghwamun / Jongno
If Gwanghwamun is the unofficial living room of Seoul, Jongno is the main hallway connecting some of Seoul’s most important historic sites and neighbourhoods. Being one of Seoul’s oldest neighbourhoods, the area is rich with history and culture in its palaces, shrines, and temples. Stand in the centre of Gwanghwamun Square with Gyeongbokgung Palace and Mt. Bugak in front of you, King Sejong the Great statue behind you, and modern office buildings encircling you—it’s one of the best ways to experience both past and present Seoul in one spot. The main street of Jongno is mostly dotted with restaurants and cafes, but explore deeper within its intricate alleys to pass decades-old restaurants, mom-and-pop shops, and pojangmachas (tents that open at night for quick bites and drinks) and life seems to run just as it did a decade or two ago. Don’t forget to stop at Gwangjang Market, Korea’s oldest traditional market, where it’s just as fun to explore as it is to eat the affordable market dishes that locals have been enjoying since the market first opened in 1905. For a break from urban life, walk along the restored Cheonggyecheon Stream that runs parallel to Jongno for a moment of natural refuge in metropolitan Seoul.
