You get what you pay for, our ground floor room was seriously outdated and the bathroom was really creepy. The staff didn't give us a lot of information, we had to ask for it. It took 20 minutes when we asked for a glass and a bottle opener for a beer from the mini fridge.
However the staff were pleasant and the pool is a rare find for such a cheap hotel. Also the room was clean and it is a good location.

I stayed at this hotel for a work week on business; it was recommended to me by a local NGO colleague. I would have liked to give it a "good" designation, but famously, tripadvisor is missing this category, and for the price, this is more "average" than "very good" in my opinion. Here's why, as the bloggers say:

The hotel is in a side street that is very difficult to find and sometimes to navigate for local drives, cabs, and Grab (as Uber just died in the region) - that makes for long waits. It is at the end of a long narrow lane, which is not ideal for walking, and in the middle of nowhere, i.e. there is little quick shopping or eating around (you could walk to Shwedagon and we once did, but it's not pleasant due to the traffic). It is nicely quiet indeed, but the views are not "nature" but trash-covered construction sites, abandoned buildings etc. - not only, but also.

I had one of the big rooms with balcony, and that was nice. But much of the furniture was very run down and damaged; the A/C was just across the bed; the bathroom included a shower just at the wall (no doors or basin) with no option not to make all really wet; there is no elevator and the staircase is not airconditioned. My duvet was "net"; no blanket or cover around it - first time I've seen that in a hotel. On the good side, the Wifi really works well; the large fridge is helpful; cleaning was good.

Regarding infrastructure, laundry service was really good - prompt (basically half day), gentle, and cheap. The pool is nice - I like that it's for laps and not "pool scene" - but the water is very chemicalled, which makes sense but is still a bit uncomfy. I found the breakfast, contrary to many other reviews here, very limited and simple, but about every other day the warm dish was very good; I liked the milk dough croissants; and the eggs made to order were simple but really good. The food in the same place is basically simple Chinese and a bit heavy on the MSG.

Altogether, this is not a cheap place; restaurant food was, say, priced as in Germany, and the rooms as well, maybe a bit below, but also with the shortcomings listed. Yangon has updated its tourist infrastructure recently and you can get a decent place downtown for very little money more. I'm afraid that is what I would do the next time - I do like to have a hotel with basic shopping and eating in walking distance, and I do like a greater, well, intactness of the rooms. But I did not have a bad stay; in fact, I had a good one - but given all in all, "good" is as good a grade as I can come up with.

Located 40 minutes aways from the airport, near to major roads yet quite hidden and the surrounding are was uninviting. There was no lift for a 5-Floor building. Our Premier Room (402) was spacious with modern interiors. The bathroom was a winner and the light system was very impressive but the wardrobe and the flooring were full of scratches. We loved the french toiletries, comfy bed and pillows. The breakfast buffet at the rooftop with view of the residential area was a disappointment (low quality toasts, juices) but the breakfast platter was special to our delight (egg, bacon, beans, tomatoes). Quick check-in and check-out. The staff had difficulties with the English language.

This is a new hotel, opened about around June or July 2014 (which we learned after speaking with the manager). Everything is new and clean. Our room was a good size, with a large bathroom. Everything worked well. The shower was the best when compared to all hotels we stayed in over 5 weeks of travel, with great water pressure. Some of the finishing could be improved, but mostly these are just cosmetic issues and don't affect any functionality. The western style breakfast was excellent quality. You can tell that they have a chef who knows what he or she is doing. The restaurant location on the top floor with a 360 review around the area is a nice touch too.

One important tip: this hotel is not directly located on Dhammazedi Road, and you won't see it from the street. The manager mentioned that a new sign will be going soon, but in the meantime I offer the following guidance on how to get there: the entrance is just around the corner from The Ice Cream Bar, Golden Kitchen, and The Friendship Restaurant located at the corner of Dhammazedi and Inya Road. There is rather long driveway which leads to the hotel. If you pass a restaurant on this driveway named Onyx, then you know you're going the right way. Since the hotel is brand new our taxi driver didn't know it, and he had to stop multiple times to talk with other people before we could discover its location. Unfortunately he wouldn't use his mobile phone to just call the hotel since he said it had no minutes. I mention this so you're prepared for a similar scenario.

Sky View is located in a quiet area just a bit off the main streets right next to Unicef, in walking distance of the Shwedagone Pagoda and a number of good restaurants. That said, the burmese style curry dishes in the hotel's own restaurant are excellent and among the best we tried in all of Myanmar. Breakfast buffet is alright too.

The Hotel seems rather new, but sloppily built. It's clean though and everything is where you expect it to be. Wifi is surprisingly speedy, water pressure is great and the staff extremely friendly and helpful.

All in all a no-nonsense accomodation in the best sense with a nice view from the upper level restaurant that certainly justifies its name.

I am doign a UN consultancy over several months and will be staying at 3-4 places for each month. This was my first place. I won't come back (except maybe during sunny season).

The PROs:
1) The pool. It's alright, and it does the trick.
2) Friendly and respectful Staff. But everyone's friendly in Myanmar.
3) Efficient and cheap laundry service.
4) You can negotiate long term rates.
5) There is a running machine (no, not a gym, but 1-2 running machines. That is all).
6) The location. Wonderful neighbourhood with Savoy for top end old world drinks and food and gorgeous pool, Sharky's for artisanl excellent food, Friendship for outdoor real feel Myanmar beer... all walking distance. The long lane to get there is fine (7 minutes)... whoever complains is just lazy and a whiner. The lane shouldn't be a deal breaker by any means. It's paved for heaven's sake and is a nice walk with singing kids in the monastary and very green and lush respite.

Now, the CONs, and the reason why I chose to not stay here for another 3-4 weeks in my second consultancy visit to Myanmar.
1) The rooms themselves feel clammy. Very black, white, birght fluerecent lights. You know what I mean. Think cement box.
2) The room service food isn't good for sustained food... it just isn't.
3) There are better options, more affordable, more cozy with better food and better cleanliness, in the neighbourhood: for example HOTEL H YANGON.
4) But, then again, the pool is key if you're there in the right seasons. Rainy season = no brainer, stay somewhere else.
5) The ACs can't handle the size of the rooms which are bigger (i.e. the ones with bathtubs).

Travel Well!

Reasonable priced. Clean new rooms. Short taxi to most of tourist attractions. Reception can organise taxi for you only bit more than the price you can haul one in the street. Small narrow lane leads to hotel. My taxi driver could not find easily even with my screen shots of hotel location.

Convenient location in Bahan. Room was great, very big, very nice bathroom. Air conditioning effective and a generator that kicks in when the city wide power cuts happen.

Food is pretty standard but lots of very good restaurants in the immediate area.

Staff very friendly and helpful.

Good experience! Very clean, quiet (although it is located in central Yangon),walking distance to the golden temple. Just that the taxi driver might find it hard to locate the small alleyway to reach the destination.

It was the best reasonably central hotel I could find in the price category I was looking for. In line with other people’s reviews, the bathrooms are by far the best aspect of the room; the bedroom itself could be spruced up a bit. Wifi was very good. Drivers were able to find the hotel without too much difficulty - there is a sign on the main road and it’s off a big intersection by the Savoy so once you know what to look for you can easily direct a driver / just get out and walk once near. The ground floor is floor 1, so it’s only four flights of stairs to the top. The pavements around the hotel (and in Yangon generally) are quite uneven with large gaps in places, so tread carefully!

Hi Fanf, Thanks for asking. According to the traveller photo, he stayed in executive room. We ensure every room has a same excellent water pressure. Premier rooms are about 2 times larger. Suite rooms are about 2.7 times larger and studio suite has a balcony with a nice view. Best Regards The Management. Sky View Hotel Yangon
