I recently spent 5 days at the Golden Guest Inn and would highly recommend this as a great place to stay. Tat and all the staff were exceptional with their service and went out of the way to make my stay the best it could be. Great wifi access, really good breakfast daily. The guest rooms are very clean with good comfortable beds, great airconditioning and good quality cable tv. A great place to stay great value for money

This is a family business that is warm and friendly and the owners are very helpful with anything you may ask or need. Very willing to help and make your stay more enjoyable. Even down to the breakfast, which is very very satisfying and nice. Eggs, fruit, sourdough toast, butter not margarine, jam, muesli just to name a bit, last visit we were made delicious traditional Burmese style breakfast (on request), very nice .... we asked if they had marmalade and next morning and each morning thereafter we had english marmalade for our toast !! Nothing is too hard for them. We stayed here for two weeks this year and last year. We have no hesitation on returning to stay next visit.

The rooms have air con which seem new and the rooms are very private and the beds are very comfortable. They are cleaned each day and sheets changed and fresh towels are in the bathroom. The bathrooms are very good, some are smaller than others but they are all tiled, have flushing toilets western style, mirror, hot showers etc. The upstairs room at the back has a very English style pale green bathroom which is very roomy and nice with a huge bath as well. There is a fridge, soft drink and complimentary bottled water, tea coffee facilities. Pillows are great.

There are still some things that need attending to in regard to some areas of the appearance of the guest house but the management are very aware and are making much in the way of upgrade and improvement in safety standard and also decor. Ted was busy on our departure choosing colours for the outside of the building. Things are changing quickly in Myanmar... last year no ATM no Wifi but this year both are available ( Wifi at the guesthouse) and next visit I am sure there will be many more options in the guest house and the city as they are growing rapidly.

We will be returning... Great place, lovely family, great service... comfortable, clean.....

This place gets much more mixed reviews than it deserves, mainly because of the price. But as a regular traveller to Myanmar, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Golden Guest Inn as a pleasant, clean, quiet, courteous bed and breakfast - and decent value for money. Granted - $60 (what I paid for a night in March 2013) is steep by Asian standards, but accommodation costs in Yangon have gone through the roof these past coulple of years. At least the Golden Guest has a bit of character. It's housed in a early-20th-century British building - parquet floors, high ceilings and varnished wood furniture. The rooms are immaculate throughout - see my pictures - with comfy mattresses, fresh linen and towels and, crucially, brand new, silent air-con units. The parents-and-son team who run the place couldn't be more helpful. Son Ted is a former doctor who worked in Canada and speaks excellent English. It's well located for the airport (only a 15-min drive away), though you'll need to get your cab driver to phone ahead for the precise location. Insein Rd is a very busy arterial route, but the house is set back in its own plot and you aren't in the least bothered by the traffic noise in the rooms. After experimenting with several inferior places in the same price bracket, I'll definitely be returning.

I booked a week in advance to stay at the Golden Guest Inn at the start of March.

I cannot advise you more strongly to stay away from this place. I paid $65/night for the room (single occupancy) Including breakfast which is significantly more than i paid anywhere else in Yangon or the rest of Myanmar.

The hotel (if it can be called that) itself is a located a LONG way outside the center of town, to the extent that many taxi drivers have not heard of the place (my two journeys into town averaged an hour each). Sadly, it is also not particularly close to the airport (c. 20 mins taxi) so all in all location terrible.

What really wrangled was the quality of the room. The carpet was truly disgusting - dirty and damp. The bedsheets and pillow cases smelt to have been washed, but were scattered with hair. The walls were damp and mouldy in places.

It must be said that Tat, who is the guy running the place, spoke very good English, but contrary to some other reviewers I did not find him to be particularly helpful.

On my return, I checked the TripAdvisor scores as I couldn't believe this place had been ranked so highly. A large number of the reviews ranking this place as 4/5 stars are suspiciously from people with only 1 review to their names. Enough said.

65$ a night for one person!!! It is a scam, and I was tricked because i have booked (and paid) the room with Agoda.
The location is awful, far away from the city, and not closed from the airport (20 mn by taxi, if no traffic jam).
Rooms are depressing, with no furniture (just plastic chairs) and a very very small (and old) TV. Beds are flabby. Electric wires are dangling. Wall paints are dirty, when not peeling off.
You don't want to sleep here, especially for 65$ per person!!
Don't believe the other reviews: as you can see, they come from long term guests, some working for NGO for instance. They don't pay for the room. So they don't know how it hurts!!!

My friend and me are planning to stay there since it came highly recommended by a friend and very near to MICT where we have to attend an event. But, when I called the guesthouse, a lady replied me rudely that foreigners only. I said my friend is a foreign passport holder of Burmese decent. Then, she said they have "NO BURMESE " policy. I asked in agoda, the property doesn't said that and should we cancel. Then, she replied that we can stay in that case with very arrogant and unwelcoming tone.I said I am not comfortable with the way I have treated and then she replied "can't help" and hung up the phone. I am so surprised to witness a property establishing in Burma has a very strong dislike of it's own people which make me really doubtful the authenticity of this Inn. So, stay here if you are happy with this kind of attitude and support discrimination.

Dear fellow travelers, we can not agree more with the description of Frederic75. We are even surprised by the good reviews the so called guest house is getting specially for the prices they charge. The rooms are just like dormitories- not what you expect when you are charged 70 US$ + . It is hostel quality at hotel prices.
Moreover, the hot shower system is extremely dangerous with naked electrical fittings just next to the shower head.
It is a pity that the lack of hotel facilities in this wonderful country lead to this sort of abuse of guests and certainly does not justify to have a misleading website.

The Golden Guest Inn was a Very Rare Ruby in a very large city. I had NEVER in all my travels to Korea, Japan, Okinawa and Thailand.. or in America for that matter.. Had the 5 star treatment as I did at the Golden Guest Inn, in Yangon. Tat Wynn and his family, Mr U Khin Maung and Mrs. Daw Kyin were very friendly. We had a FULL breakfast prepared daily at no additional charge..Eggs to order.. toast, French toast, omelletes.. and ripe fruit. This was not a buffet style breakfast either. this was a Top shelf breakfast.. Prepared for you. The rooms were very clean and Power outages were frequent.. but the Golden Guest Inn is equipped with a Generator back up.. so we never lost power or AC :) There were very helpful with our service.. if there was ANYTHING that we needed.. Tat would try to help. The young men working at the Golden Guest Inn were very courteous.. and helpful. They would be staged one outside the door to help with luggage or taxi service.. and one in the lobby to refresh your coffee or bring you anything that you requested. Tat was a Great Host, and his Father U Khin Maung Swe told many stores of the Burmese culture. And to a foreigner.. it was very refreshing. There was a gated entry that closed at night to provide security.. and Tat was usually up early to ensure that the guests had everything in order for their day. The Laundry cleaning was INCREDIBLE. I had a few items to be laundered and they came back like i had just purchased them! Vacuum sealed with cardboard rings inside the collar.. for less $ then what it takes to simply wash them at the laundry mat. There were no negatives to our stay that come to mind.. the price was very reasonable.. and FAR outweighed the service. Wifi Connection was free.. and you could connect at no charge for data. It was an awesome trip.. and it was a very nice Hotel. Upon my next visit to Myanmar.. The Golden Guest Inn will be my only choice for accommodations. I would recommend them to any of my friends or family.. and know without a doubt .. that Tat and his family would take very good care of them. I thank you Mr. Maung Swe for the stories.. and Mrs Kyin for the INCREDIBLE meals that you prepared for me. Tat.. awesome service.. and I hope to return soon.. Tah Tah!

We were a group of 8 and arrived at the Inn during peak hour, after a day of internal flight transfers and sight seeing around Yangon. We were hot and tired and the thought of negotiating the traffic to find a meal was not appealing. Instead our gracious hosts helped us to locate and order a meal to be delivered. They even went out of their way to find the accompanying wine/beer etc we were to enjoy with the meal (which was delicious). Our rooms were clean with large, comfortable beds, t/coffee/jug/hair dryer, tv etc. Located approx 15 mins from the airport helped us avoid lengthy traffic delays for our morning flight. A delightful family experience in Yangon
