After staying in a terrible hotel we just walked into this hotel to check it out. The hotel is a bit dated but by asian and especially Myanmar standards it's very nice. The manager gave us a great rate and kept checking in with us with anything we might need help with. The breakfast is a bit average but filling. The location is good and an easy walk to lots of attractions. Would stay here again!

I'm from the US and spent 2 months at this hotel and really enjoyed myself. The staff became my family; they are soooo friendly, accommodating and really look out for you. Some speak English well enough to get you around. It's situated in a good location. The rooms are nice, with individual bathrooms and A/C. Breakfast was good. I really miss the restaurant crew. For a hotel in Myanmar this really nice. We actually switched from another hotel to stay here and did not regret it at all. I would definitely recommend this hotel and stay there again. When booking specify a room on higher floor with a view.

There are two Orchid Hotels and the one we stayed at was near Sule Pagoda roundabout. The staff at reception did not speak English and it was hard to get ourselves understood. We had booked a triple room but were given a two roomed suite for the night. There is tea and coffee making facilities in the room and the aircon worked well. There was free wi-fi in the lobby area which was slow but worked. We had to check out very early the next day to get on our flight to Bagan and we requested a packed breakfast. We were given packs which contained one boiled egg and two slices of bread, sparingly spread with margarine. We did not expect a grand breakfast but at least some fruit / drink or yoghurt would have been appreciated. The bellboy was very helpful and spoke some English and was full of smiles!

The hotel is a middle class hotel without anything special. It is outside the center of Yangon, but at a very busy, noisy intersection. It is also near a monastery that starts playing music at 5 am.Internet is available. Breakfast is average.

It is very, very much overpriced. A hotel like this should be around 35 or 40 dollar, we were charged 110 for a double room. On top of that they tried to charge is two nights no show, although our date change was well communicated, agreed and documented.

We went there because hardly anything else was available. A next time we would choose a different hotel whenever possible.

I can only agree with the other reviews on this hotel. Even though I very well understand the young history of Myanmar Tourism, this is a way out of getting back for what you pay for!
Standard: Is somewhere around 1.5* - nor more. The "deluxe" room has nothing that would justify that term. It is basic and not comfortable at all. TV didn't work and Internet worked best after midnight. The AC was sufficient at this time, not sure it will be sufficient once it gets really hot.
Cleanliness: Under Average. The toilet smells and so does the shower / bathtub
Staff: With one or so exception the staff is weak in English. The usual shy - friendliness of Asian cukture, but not really committed to make your stay pleasant.
Price: I paid $120,00 a night, which is the worst hotel deal/value I have ever become. $40/45 would be OK, $35 good value.
There is a 7 day cancellation policy for this place, so if you don't like it your stuck!
Most other guests were Asians coming in rather large groups to stay one night. They check in late and leave early.
Finally: This Hotel offers a nice lobby, but nothing is served, and all alcoholic beverages are banded from the premises.
Alternatives: Well, check agoda.com. They have a wider selection of Hotels in Yangon you can choose from than other sites.
To the management and owners. You might make fast money now, but a few more revies like this and you will not have Westerns staying with you any longer. Those who can afford it will stay at the upper class Hotels, and the others will look for alternatives - and they are out here!

Another hotel that has jacked prices 2-3X Just paid $85 for a tiny room and tiny bathroom. Hotel is right on major intersection with traffic lights. Every bus and lorry stops and then starts with a demeaning noise that sounds like it is in your room. That is because they are right outside with a single pane of thin glass and cheap plastic curtains. Restaurant is awful with 2-3 staff sitting around an empty room waiting for someone to come. Awful breakfast. Very budget hotel. Would be great for someone only wanting to pay $30 which is what it was charging last year and which is above what a comparable room would cost in Bangkok As with every Myanmar hotel the staff were lovely and helpful. It should be noted that the advertised spa does not exist any more and the room wifi does not work. The lobby wifi is good.

Orchid Hotel is generally a good hotel if the infrastructure and backroom support staff can keep up with the steep rates they are charging. The front desk staff are helpful and polite, but its a pity that they are working in such a hotel. Let me share my terrible experience with you on this hotel.

We had 2 dinner occasions in the hotel and both comes with "unforgettable happenings". The first was when we order a soup and guess what we find inside the soup? It s a steel strip!!! Our guess was that it could probably come from the can when they are opening canned button mushroom. Well, we got it right for this one as it was confirmed by the supervisor.

Another occasion is a mild one where we order a steam fish with orange sauce. When we cut the fish into half, it was not cooked in the centre. Our guess was that its not steamed fish we are eating, its microwaved fish. Well, we got it right again. The supervisor recognizes and really do not know what to say as he definitely remembers the previous experience. Only a span of 2 days!!! The fish was changed and this time, the fish comes in pieces. I think its probably easier to microwave it and ensure all is cooked.

Now, lets come to the room. If you guys wanna stay, avoid room 901 to 903. These rooms are noisy as it faces the road. The worst room is 906 which I am really interested to talk about. Everyday, you will find yourself doing the "morning exercise" of clearing dead cockroaches all over the room. The peak was 12 dead cockroaches in the bathroom. You will see yourself performing this "routine" pretty often in a day. After you clear and wait for 30 minutes, you will see probably 3 or more found dead in your room. If this is still not enough to knock the sense out of you, try asking yourself this question?
"we all know that cockroaches are pretty tough creatures even in extreme environment. So how did the cockroaches ended up dead in your room?!!" Go figure this out yourself.

Well, for the "early birds" (those who like to wake up early), you won't be disappointed as you will have a wake up call from the morning muslim prayers. Believe me, you can't miss that!

Good Luck to all who stays in this hotel. You needed that.

I am not a difficult person to please but staying in this very expensive hotel (US$115/night) considering the quality and service is just too much!

They initially gave me a room with a window but the noise is just too much to bear. You will be kept awake by everything that is moving along the major intersection just opposite the hotel so I asked to be transferred. They then gave me a windowless room that supposedly muffs the noise... well, as I write this, I just heard a speeding car pass by.

The windowless room is like staying in solitary confinement. The furniture is old and tired. The toilet is small and dark. There is only one plug for the TV and the fridge so choose which creature comfort you prefer -- at least they give you options.

The bed has hairs. The toilet has cobwebs. The shower curtains are stained.

Run away as far away as possible from this hotel. Complete rip off!

just cannot bear the noise from the street. The other option is for you to stay in a room with windows but

We were disappointed in this place. We had a hard time finding a hotel for our trip, and we booked a room here because it was one of the few places that was available. We paid $60 night, and it wasn't worth half of that. We were on the ninth floor, and there is a pigeon infestation between the ceiling panels and the roof (as indicated by the feathers in the room, and the bird feces dripping down the window and upper corners of the bathroom walls). Very noisy at night and hard to sleep because of it. There was also a mouse in our room, rustling in our trash, so we had to move the garbage can into the hallway. The staff were polite at times, but rude and dismissive if you asked too many questions. Hot water in the shower lasts for about 3 minutes, and then it's lukewarm at best.

Also, be aware that they are VERY picky when it comes to US dollars. They didn't accept our $100 bills because they were "before series 2000". No other place in Yangon rejected our money for this reason.
