The prestigious 5-star Yangon Excelsior, a luxurious hotel in Yangon’s downtown, has been painstakingly refurbished from a Heritage Building - the Headquarters of the Steel Brothers Limited Company, built in early 19th century. Yangon Excelsior has just reopened on 1 December 2023, I chanced upon their Facebook page and booked directly with them. Their reopening packages are incredibly affordable for the standard it provides.
A true gem in Yangon, tucked away in a busy alley way near Sule Pagoda, easily assessable to major tourist attractions.
This boutique hotel is impeccable. Beautifully and tastefully decorated; old world charm meets modern amenities.
The room is spacious, high ceiling, warm, and soothing tone and sufficiently lit. Everything was carefully considered, the bed and linen were comfortable; the shower pressure was superb!
High compliments for the attentive service all round. Mr Zaw, the manager, was extremely helpful and always around greeting guests at the front desk.
I looked forward to breakfast every morning, handsome choices (traditional noodle soup was excellent) and good quality food.
I stayed in 3 different hotels in Yangon during the trip and Yangon Excelsior tops the list.

When it comes to five stars hotel as a foreigner, many people will familiar with the names - pan pacific, Novotel,Melia etc. But Yangon Excelsior is unbelievable amazing five stars hotel that I have stayed. I want this hotel more famous in Yangon than any other international hotels. You can really experience very kind and welcome hospitality as five star level. They also offered welcome drinks and apples in the room. That's very kind of them. Restaurant, Spa not overpriced, very reasonable price. Start from The room slippers , every products they offered for the guest is very extraordinary good , smell good. Very classy to stay with full British vibe. House keepers are also wearing official British house keepers clothes. Very cute. Its not only a luxury hotel but also a very valuable museum itself I would say. During my stay, I carefully used all the stuffs in the room because I also value the hotel and it's legacy.

I have a fondness to stay at Myanmar heritage hotels. This time, I chose Excelsior, rejuvenated from the former site of Steel Brothers Building.
The arrival and check-in was seamless and very friendly. The room was superbly clean and well-equipped. Normally, I make a fuss over the pillow and bed. The pillow was fresh and firm; bed suited my back. After a hot day, coming back to a cool room was welcoming.
Like all Yangon streets, the road outside is dusty and noisy. The room is sound-proofed until when the buzzing sound of evening generators. During my one night stay, there were a couple of electricity disruptions for about 30 seconds each time. Fortunately, the hotel's standby generators kicked in.There is not much of "City View" from my room though.
WiFi strength was good.
I wished they have more international channels, which can be considered when normalcy returns.
I did not find a room safe. Perhaps the front counter has safe deposit boxes.
This is a very value-for-money hotel with many foreigners and wealthy Burmese as guests. I like the decor and display of old typewriters and photographic stand, akin to a news room.
I will come back again for sure.

We stayed at the Yangon Excelsior for three nights, the hotel itself is a small boutique hotel in a great location. It’s a relatively new hotel having only been open for about 18months. The hotel has been decorated beautifully and has a modern but old world charm. We enjoyed our breakfast each day, the staff remembered our preferences for coffee and drinks for the days we were there, I have a Pomelo and cucumber obsession and would go early to the markets in the morning at 630am, to buy these items and the staff would prepare them for me for breakfast, no request was too hard. Thanks Je for your advice on how to pick the best Pomelo, obviously I have a lot to still learn haha. The staff at the Yangon Excelsior go out of their way to make you feel welcome and to help you with any requests, they always had a smile and were quick to offer assistance to questions or requests. After going out in 36 heat, we loved coming back to our room for a rest during the heat of the day before heading out again, the location of the Yangon Excelsior was central to walking and exploring around Yangon. We enjoyed the mini bar in our room with the cold drinks and the glass water bottles in our room with water. The soaps and shampoos had a lovely scent, and the shower was the perfect water pressure. Our bed was large and comfortable and the room was very clean, the high ceilings gave the room and light and airy feeling. If you love street food, try the pickled ginger dish, and the green tea salad from the street cart at the end of the road where the hotel is located (Bo Son Pat Road) turn left out of the hotel, walk to the end of the street, on the right hand side will be a serious of street carts, chose the second cart (should be under a blue sign all in Burmese and next to that is a sign that states MPT, delicious! Thank you Yangon excelsior for making our stay in Rangoon so enjoyable, we highly recommend staying here.

A refined setting with attentive service, as soon as you enter Yangon Excelsior, you can’t help but be amazed by the beauty of the entrance hall. The entire decor is crafted down to the smallest detail, with smiling staff always ready to assist you with any matter. I had the chance to have lunch at the Newsroom restaurant, which serves delicious cuisine and French wines that seem endless. The rooms are spacious and stunning, with a bed so comfortable that you won’t want to leave, and a splendid bathroom. If you're going to Yangon, there’s no doubt that Yangon Excelsior Hotel is the place to choose, with more than affordable prices and five-star service. If you just want to spend time with friends over afternoon tea, this hotel will become your favorite spot.

I’ve got the chance to stay at this wonderful hotel where I got to meet and talk to many very welcoming, kind, attentive and friendly staff who made my stay 1000% better. They went above and beyond to make sure my stay was comfortable and all my needs were met,….even took care of me and made sure I felt better when I got suddenly ill.
On the other hand, the interior of the hotel is classy with a vintage touch. The breakfast and drinks here are also very very good. The location is right in the city centre, few steps away from Sule Pagoda and Chinatown.
I cannot say enough how glad I am to have stayed there and thankful that got the chance to meet such beautiful human beings (staff).

We just enjoyed 5 nights in the beautifully decorated Yangon Excelsior Hotel! It was quiet, comfortable bed linens, towels to be able to rest from jet lag. Because our days were full and temperatures hot and traffic delays, we enjoyed most of our evening meals in the exceptional restaurants at the hotel! We loved the lamb chops and braised lamb shank at Steel Brothers Restaurant. The News Room was great for soups and loved the traditional fermented tea leaf salad. We left behind a fancy treasured water bottle and housekeeping found it for us! Loved the espresso in room and my husband loved the free beer in room! Breakfasts were a treat with service a la carte menu fancy eggs benedict with a drizzle of pesto ! Lovely! Arparc our breakfast waiter, Nicholas evenings...Kudos to front desk staff and all the waiters! Not enough good can be said! We will definitely return!

The hotel occupies a very compact site on a colorful side street. The ground floor has large dining rooms and the lobby; the remaining floors are for the rooms and a small spa/fitness center due to the tight footprint of the old building. One strong feature is the extra ceiling height, making most spaces elegant, especially in the room. Excellent color scheme for the interior, as well as a very comfortable bed. The only minus point is the library on the ground floor, which doesn't really offer real books for reading. More like props. Excellent staff and service.

We stayed for one night to celebrate new year. The decor and service in this hotel is impeccable. The service staff took great care of us and is it very easy to communicate with them. We decided to dine with them for the new year eve buffet. The buffet selection is small but the food tastes great.

This beautiful and swanky hotel could easily be in NYC where it would be $600/night. It’s truly 5 star as is the staff. They can’t do enough for you and speak perfect English. I stayed 3 nights and ended up eating dinner here every night because I was too tired to venture back out after long days of sight seeing. Food was great. Breakfast was the best of my trip. The linens on the bed were nicer than those I have at home. My only (small) complaint would be that I found the bed too hard *but* that was the case everywhere during my two week trip in Laos and Myanmar. Think it’s just their norm and personal preference. You can’t go wrong here- it deserves it’s accolades.
