Stayed here for 3 days on a work trip. The view is the best aspect. Even lying in bed you look out to the water and it is amazing to wake up to. The room is comfortable, good bed and the bathtub long enough for an evening soak. Room wifi catches well though be sure to register onto the 'rooms" wifi as the general hotel wifi drops alot or just does not catch at all. Restaurant food is amazing, tried their Sunday night roast special , had the lamb, absolutely delicious, the roasted potatoes were a plus plus. Breakfast is pleasant and a great variety to start the day off. Erima is worth mentioning as she always had a smile on which is not easy in the restaurant scene.
Beware of taxi drivers who will rip you off (as in other countries im sure) Semi, a taxi driver the hotel calls is not an honest man and will charge you at least 3 times the normal rate. The buses are a better option and you get to sightsee on the way too (bonus)
Overall a lovely stay and would recommend to others visiting Port Vila.

We just recently had our first trip to Vanuatu. Stayed at the Grand Hotel for 12 nights. Good location if you want access to buses and the markets. The hotel itself needs a lot of work, it seems like it needs renovations big time. For it's price it needs a lot more. Most of the staff were friendly but you can tell they are so overworked. You can see locals hanging around carpark to Iririki Ferry fighting and drunken most mornings around 5am. You can hear them screaming and see them throwing punches at security guards quite often. Port Vila seems quite run down but this place is good for a few nights maximum. Food and Drinks were very expensive. I would say the food in resturant was good as food is of very poor quality anywhere near the grand and very overpriced. I suggest bringing your own food into country if you can. There is a happy hour on Fridays to Sundays from 5pm to 7pm for drinks. We asked on the first weekend being the Saturday were told no hapy hour but the guy was wrong. We ended up paying double. On new years eve no environment and the staff looked very miserable. The rooms seemed very outdated compared to travel site photos and the swimming pool was very smelly. Elevators were quite smelly as well. You also have touts hanging around watching people in pool area trying to get them to jump into buses etc before they csn even dry themselves.

The room was quite spacious, the beds were excellent in both rooms, very fresh and clean. Sundays are church days so on a Monday we did have trouble getting fresh room towels. The staff were very lovely and they had a doorman 24/7. The top floor is still recovering from the recent cyclones and so no rooms available there. We found the view and rooms to look exactly as depicted. We loved that we were easy walking distance to supermarche, local food and craft market and many restaurants a 10 min walk. The local bus ran past the front door and were cheap at 150vat per person. Very glad we stayed here.

I was very impressed with the quality of the meals here and the service. The setting is beautiful over looking the water and irirki island.
It was however a tad expensive. Our family of 6 cost around $350 aud and one child only had a bowl of chips. They do have a happy hour, so I would plan my meal around that if you wanted to save some money.
They also have a small casino with around 6 tables and maybe 50 pokie machines. Definitely a fun environment and they serve drinks at the tables.

Good location beside Port Vila Harbour, in town close to restaurants and cafes, grocery and other stores, markets, currency exchange, tourism office and other services. Started my holiday here to experience the capital and organise my currency, mobile sim card and day trips/tours. Took daily walks to the nearby bay promenade with its markets, cafes and parks.
The hotel is the tallest building in Vila. From my higher floor deluxe room there were nice views of the harbour; sit on the balcony and watch the sunset. Good size room with large bed, small writing desk, good cupboard and drawer space, bedside tables with lamps, smooth tiled floor (take care, slippery when wet), small fridge, jug, coffee and selection of tea bags (black, green, earl grey, mint), separate tub and shower, basic toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash), free wi-fi (okay to poor connection), tv, iron, daily housekeeping.
The pool area was nice with lounges (only a few with umbrellas) and view of the bay (a shame about the wire fencing along the harbour edge). Pool size was just long enough to swim laps. Pool bar was closed while I was visiting but you can order at lobby bar and they bring drinks etc out to you (might be nice if someone came out to pool area occasionally to see if any guests would like any refreshments). Be careful in the pool bathroom as the floor is extremely slippery when wet (as it will be if you have just jumped out of the pool); I just saved myself in time from a nasty fall. Pool open sunrise to sunset so no early night swimming.
Very friendly and helpful reception, and all the staff. Make you feel welcome. Lobby and restaurant are good. Enjoyed one breakfast at the hotel. Several room service meals were okay but probably better to eat in the restaurant or in town. No functional tour desk.
A few negatives - noise from the nearby shipyard and LIT nightclub with its boom boom beat till 3 am (though the hotel has put in heavy glass balcony doors that help reduce most of the noise), congested hotel front (little parking or footpath area), balconies are close to one another and their position reduces some room privacy, wine glasses provided but no cork screw or bottle opener (bar offered to send someone to room to open my bottle but there were none available to borrow), water runs from shower into the room making the floor slippery.
Despite the few negs I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. It is in a good location, handy to attractions and services of Port Vila. Comfortable room, friendly staff.

The best thing about the Grand is its location. It's right in town so is only a 5 minute walk to the Port Vila market, supermarkets, restaurants and massage salons. The restaurant Cafe du Village is next door as is a massage place. There's a Chinese restaurant just opposite and you can pretty much walk everywhere including the handicraft market and shops. The view of the ocean from the room is also beautiful.

The grand has comfortable, clean rooms and all rooms have a balcony with sea view. I booked a standard room (these are on level 1 and 2). The hotel offers free wifi which connects in all areas but is temperamental - it got frustrating some days when I had to type in the password every couple of hours. Everything you'd need for a comfortable stay is in the room including iron, ironing board, safe, bar fridge, study desk etc. There's also a bathtub if you fancy a soak.

The staff are kind but the restaurant food isn't too great. Breakfast is ok if you order simple toast and eggs or something similar. There were breakfast buffets in the weekend which had a bit more variety with fruits and pancakes. I preferred having breakfast here rather than other meals. The two times I tried to have dinner, I had to wait for quite some time although the restaurant wasn't busy. Vanuatu has Thai, Chinese, French and other cuisines available so its best to try different restaurants.

It was always nice to return to the Grand's comfortable room after being in the heat all day and have a drink near the poolside or in the balcony. Also, it has disability access and a lift so you don't have to worry about climbing stairs. There are a number of accomodation choices in Vila but if you want convenience of staying near restaurants and shops, the Grand is perfect.

Went to the buffet breakfast a couple months ago and was dissapointed then. Tried it again, and it was even worst. Food is bland, no creativity. Things were always missing, so had to keep asking for things to be refilled. Cooking omelettes in the restaraunt causes smoke! Dishes dont get cleared away. Hashbrowns have been missing since the last time i went. Bring them back! Only hot food, tinned baked beans, overcooked sausages, pancakes and an attempt on fried rice. Frozen pasteries. It is pineapple season and even the pineapple juice is from a bottle. Never checked on. Waitresses gather in the back to chat. Dont take the initiative. Overall not a good experience.

Whilst the Grand could do with a little TLC on the outside, it’s still a lovely hotel on the inside with nice, big, comfortable rooms, lovely staff and great air-con. The pool area is appealing, as is the restaurant, foyer and bar area with lots of glass highlighting those lovely water views. The area around the hotel is a little messy but well-located in the busy town centre, close to farmers’ market, lots of shops, supermarket and I had a great Thai massage next door. The food in the restaurant for dinner was ok, the Happy hour was appreciated and the Cocktail of the month - the Pineapple Mojito was excellent and great value. Recommend for a stay of a few days in the bustle of Port Vila.

We had lunch only on a Sunday because nothing much is open on Sunday in Port Vila. Around 2 things start to happen again. This was a terrific diversion, wonderful food, spectacular views out to the islands and overlooking the pool and excellent service. Indoors the air conditioning is perfect for someone who needs it but we found it too cold so we sat outdoors on the balcony.

My wife and I stayed for eight nights in the Penthouse over Xmas / new year. We have stayed at this hotel a number of times. Rather than go through detail of the problems we encountered, we would like to thank Roy who heads up maintenance, for his input as all issues were fixed thanks to him. Again, the restaurant had issues with wait times and cold food being served. The manager got involved with our problems as we were not happy and gave us a complimentary meal. Sylvie was a real highlight amongst the wait staff and deserves a pay rise,The view from the 6th floor was divine. Charlie as usual very polite and helpful on the front desk.

We think we will need coercion to stay at the Grand again.

Overall an enjoyable holiday as the locals are so friendly which keeps bringing us back.

Mike and Joanne

I am not sure that the hotel has its own shuttle, but the staff are very helpful and assisted our party with arranging land transportation. So I reckon if you ask them, they can tee up a car to collect you.

I don't think so. They should do, you need a drink to cope with the bad manners from the staff. If you like cold showers because they turn off the heating during the day, if you like bad manners and bad wifi you will love this hotel
