TL;DR
No restaurant, private beach or snorkeling at resort
Cannot swim in lagoon
Simple breakfast over lagoon
Great staff, quite helpful
Close bus stops - easy to get to town
Good price for room, lovely location
Room serviced about every 3 days

I enjoyed our stay however...
Online information needs updating as it is very misleading. NO RESTAURANT ANYMORE. Unfortunately we only learnt about this on arrival at the resort which was very disappointing. They still provide a simple breakfast as stated (usually tea and coffee, toast, bananas, papaya and sometimes pancakes or on occasion eggs). For dinner go to town or neighbouring resorts were great (Tropicana and MG Cocomo).

There is no private beach as stated in the features section and no snorkeling. There is the lagoon - lovely to kayak on but not safe for swimming due to pollution.

Staff are absolutely lovely and I enjoyed our stay here. Staff picked us up from airport and helped us book some day tours and activities. A reasonable price for room. Lovely gardens. We stayed in a garden room which is private and secluded from other rooms. A few cockroaches came into the room at night through tiny holes in ceiling. Pool is small and surrounding deck chairs broken, but still a nice spot.

Would be ideal to have an A4 paper sheet in room with some key notes like time of breakfast, how to do laundry, lagoon not safe for swimming, etc. Otherwise just have to keep asking staff.
Wifi only works close to reception.

You can't beat this place for the price and the location. Owner and staff are extremely friendly and the owner gave us a ride to airport at 5am for a reasonable price.
The room is as described as has a decent kitchenette. There is no restaurant but The Tropicana 100m away has great food and drinks with a view over the lagoon.

We loved our stay with Ursula, Richard and staff at Villa Chaumieres. The accommodation was clean and quite spacious, gardens were beautiful, staff friendly and the restaurant meals top quality. The value for the accommodation is incredible with restaurant meals and beverages on par with other quality resorts throughout Vanuatu. We loved spending time reading on the jetty in beanbags, kayaking along the lagoon and swimming in the lagoon. Water was clean and safe to drink meaning no plastic bottles required (hooray!) and minimal mosquitoes or flies. This is a special little hidden place in Vanuatu.

There are so many things that make this place unique. But the gardens are what really thrilled me. You enter the property by meandering along raked paths through lush densely planted garden beds full of colour. Once through reception and down to the restaurant over the water there are added garden ornaments and hanging art made of mosaics and ceramics that are artsy and whimsical.

Our accommodation was upstairs in a lagoon view room with a huge wooden balcony that looked out over the garden,  restaurant area and lagoon.  Because you are amongst the trees at this level the shade they afford is what makes it so cool and pleasant.

Ursula and Richard are the perfect hosts.  The advice they gave us for getting to know Vanuatu in a week was invaluable. They are lovely people, considerate,  kind and generous. I couldn't fault this place in fact. The beds are firm and comfy,  rooms a good size,  service excellent,  facilities very good especially for the price you pay.  It's quirky, charming and very appropriately  designed for the climate.

The breakfast included each morning was substantial.  Fresh fruits,  croissants and toasted batard, juice and coffees.

We had 2 meals here during our stay as well as breakfast each day. I cannot recommend highly enough the Fishermans Feast. I binged on crayfish, coconut crab, calamari, wahoo, coconut crusted prawns.....All of it fresh and the light pernot flavoured sauces and chilli lime glazes were exquisite. I still salivate thinking about it. The restaurant is perfect for a romantic evening.

Ursula and Richard provide you with something special when you stay here.  Yes it's 40 years old,  no it's not a fancy schmancy resort.  It is so much more than that!   It's a whole experience.  We have LOVED our stay and have made wonderful lifetime memories during our stay here.

The moment we walked in the door of Vila Chaumiere, we felt part of Morgan’s family. He could not have showed us more kindness and warmth. On our second night he insisted that we have dinner with him and help him finish off his leftovers from Christmas lunch. We stayed up late talking and laughing, and listening to stories about his life. He introduced us to his sister-in-law, Miriam, who we instantly clicked with and we couldn’t have loved more. She has the most beautiful, infectious personality and the warmest smile. She took us for a tour of the island of Efate and then we caught up again on our last night as friends before flying back home.

The accomodation at Vila Chaumiere was so comfortable and peaceful (the views were of the lagoon were idyllic!). But it the people you meet when you travel that really stay with you. I couldn’t speak more highly of our stay, and it was so heartwarming to support a genuine family business. I really hope to be back soon!

The bungalows of Vila Chaumieres lie in a beautifully landscaped garden through which a path winds its way to the restaurant over the water. All is well-kept and maintained and looks tidy and clean. The couple running the place is very hospitable and kind. Some art pieces she has made herself can be seen in the garden. There is also a small pool, aside from the direct access to the lagoon . Kayaks can be used for free at any time.
Laundry services are provided.
The restaurant over the lagoon is just lovely with its views. Food is good though not fully living up to European standard. The staff in the restaurant could be a bit more attentive/faster but they are still friendly.
I would definitely recommend Vila Chaumieres for its beautiful setting and comfort!

If you are looking for a lovely place to spend a few nights, it will be Vila Chaumieres. Just 20 minutes away from the airport.
You enter from the parking space through a beautyful flower walkway. Everything is green and colorful. The main building with reception, bar and restaurant is located directly at the water. We choose the room on first floor with a good view along the waterside.
The hosts and owners are very nice and good hearted people. They were quite kind with rearranging some nights, because of our flight issues with Air Vanuatu.
They also run a really good restaurant. You can sit directly above the water, surrounded by lots of fish with a fantastic view. The chefs chocolate mousse was very delicious. We enjoyed all our evenings there with different main courses.
And if you need tour guides or recommendations to visit, they explain all and organize it for you. We also did a little kayaking along the waterside.
It was a good and wonderful time the

We celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary dinner at Vila Chaumieres in March 2006 and had a fabulous evening. You sit on a gorgeous rustic jetty on the Erakor Lagoon and watch the fish go crazy beneath you - lovely music, gorgeous food and a simply delightful setting - the highlight of our holiday!

Answer from VilaChaumieres

The lagoon is safe to swim and snorkel in. There are no sharks, croccodiles or box jellyfish. There is nothing that will harm you. We recommend that you wear aqua shoes to protect your feet from coral cuts.

Is it safe to swim and snorkel in the lagoon?
Answer from VilaChaumieres
Port Vila, Vanuatu
From our understanding, swimming in the lagoon seems to be safe as locals do it all the time.
Answer from VilaChaumieres
Port Vila, Vanuatu
Hello. To conserve power (Vanuatu has the third highest cost per unit in the world) we introduced a cost of approximately $5AU per night (500 Vatu) for air conditioning for those guests who wish to have that option. However, to honour your claim of noting air conditioning is included, we are happy to withdraw that charge for your one night stay. So that it is clear, these are the features we have that are included in our room rates: fans, tea/coffee/radio, iron, ironing board, hair dryer, fridge, use of a safe, free use of kayaks on the Lagoon, complimentary wifi for all guests, an extremely substantial tropical breakfast including tea/coffee, fruit juice, fruit platter, croissants, batard and condiments and with great service and an ambience to die for!
