Unfortunately due to the covid19 pandemic my partner and I were unable to leave Australia for our Vanuatu holiday. We had booked a low, non refundable rate at Mangoes and were concerned about losing hundreds of dollars on accomodation. When we contacted the property, their communication was prompt and polite, and they kindly refunded us our money. We think mangoes looks like a beautiful place to stay and now that we know how great the customer service is we will certainly be staying as soon as possible!

Right from our late check in when we arrived after 1 am and we’re met by security who walked us to our room the customer service we experienced during our seven night stay was exceptional.
Nothing was a problem and all of our enquiries were met with a smile and a solution. We booked several trips through the reception desk and as a result found that one of the tours was around $20 per head cheaper than that offered online.
The rooms were large and well appointed however ours didn’t have air conditioning so I would recommend asking for a room with it as it was very hot trying to sleep at night. We had a pool only a few metres away from our room and it was only a short walk to the restaurant for our daily breakfast.
It was refreshing to be constantly met with a smile and hello from the numerous staff on site whenever we walked past someone. It appears that the owner employs many local staff as we counted at least twenty different staff members and given I think the resort only has 28 rooms the staff to guest ratio is very high and it shows in the service they deliver.
It appears that now the borders have opened three months ago that some of the maintenance that may have been delayed by a lack of guests is now being undertaken.
Transport to the main shopping precinct in Port Vila is either a fifteen minute walk or just a few minutes in one of the numerous buses that ply their trade right across town. The cost for the bus is about AUD $1.30 per person . There is an in-house massage service also available and it was a great way to unwind after a busy day sightseeing at a price half of what you pay in Australia.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Mangoes Resort as a great base for your visit to Efate and look forward to returning hopefully in the near future.

My wife and stayed in a villa for 7 days/nights. The facilities are excellent, the location is great as the elevation meant you caught the breeze which was a blessing in the wet season. The tropical gardens are stunning, the palms gave shade, the pool was right outside our door. We did get an air conditioned room which I highly recommend.

The hosts Callum and Kayla were super helpful and knowledgable about what to do and the best way to get there. The local staff are so friendly, we stayed long enough to get to know them which was fun.

Vanuatu is a unique place, certainly not as commercial as ya Fiji/Rarotonga type places. The roads are terrible, beers are quite expensive and it gets REAL hot during the wet season.

Overall, was an amazing week. We loved it and highly recommend trying a different kind of island experience.

I went to Vanuatu for the first time on a solo trip and Mangoes was my first stop.
The local staff were lovely and very helpful, however someone named Kalam Rhodes who is or was the manager was the rudest and most racist person I have ever met as a traveller.
He made me feel very uncomfortable and tarnish my experience at Mangoes.
Imagine having your breakfast in the morning in the restaurant and being interrupted to be told that you will be charged extra for cleaning your room. It showed a total lack of professionalism and common sense.
And during the check out, he was completely arrogant and insulting.
I suspect he acted this way as I was a black man travelling solo as I saw how different he behaved with couples from different nationalities.
I would not recommend Mangoes if you are not a white couple. There are plenty of others better located and cleaner resorts in Port Vila.

Response from General Manager, General Manager at Mangoes Resort
Responded 13 Feb 2024
We regret to have received this feedback. Upon investigating the matter, we discovered that there were reports from other guests of noise and disruptive behaviour from the early hours in the morning. When our cleaning team attended the room in the morning, it was discovered that it had been left in a very unsatisfactory condition. Our staff took immediate action to address this issue. The housekeeping team disposed of all linen, along with a thorough clean and sanitized the affected room to ensure it meets our standards of cleanliness for future guests. The guest did not make us aware of this situation at any point beforehand. We strive to provide a clean and welcoming environment for all our guests, and incidents like this are not reflective of the level of service we aim to deliver. Our resort offers a welcoming and inclusive environment for all the guests, regardless of race, ethnicity, or background and do not agree with the statement made. We understand that misunderstandings can occur, and we regret any miscommunication that may have led to your dissatisfaction.

We just finished a stay at mangoes resort and unfortunately it was not at all what is advertised. The property itself is quite rundown from the rooms to the pools. There was mold through the bathroom in both rooms we stayed in, and the air conditioner did not work in the second room as it was too old yet, the owner still tried to charge us a higher rate to use the room. The TV hard drive does not work either and froze the whole TV in the two rooms after just 5 minutes into using it, which was extremely frustrating and there were only 4 channels that worked. The shower also flooded to our ankles on the first night and the maintenance worker pulled out big clumps of hair the next day which was disgusting considering that flooded up all over us while showering. On the last night there were also bugs through the bed and my wife and I woke up with bites around our ankles. We were very relieved to leave mangoes resort and will not be returning as we couldn't even enjoy the space knowing how dirty it was. Also their taxi prices outside are extremely overpriced so don't be fooled like we were when you can pay just 2500 vato to get to hideaway Island by taxi instead of 8000 vato. I hope this helps others who are also expecting a resort experience as the name would suggest. Their instagram photos are quite misleading also, the pools were rusted especially the pool with the mini waterfall, given the state of the resort we did not feel comfortable swimming. The staff were the only upside as they tried to help us but their hands were tied as the owners did not show much concern around the issues we faced and instead tried to make excuses such as telling us all hotels in Vanuatu have mold due to the weather which is not true. We just wish a review like this existed before we wasted money staying at this accommodation.

Have just returned from a stay at Mangoes. Arriving soon after the borders of Vanuatu opened we expected some chaos and while some excursions were no longer running, Mangoes well and truly made up for it. The staff welcomed tourist visitors with smiles, the grounds were just beautiful and the pools (of which there are numerous) were clean, refreshing and warm. The restaurant while quiet when we first arrived, accommodated more and more holiday makers as our time there continued. Food was divine, drinking bubbles in the sunshine just awesome and we'll definitely be back.
Wonderful to see Vanuatu open again and wonderful to see Mangoes welcoming visitors once more to its beautiful surroundings, well presented rooms and gorgeous restaurant.

The bungalows with pool and lagoon view were amazing. Comfortable bed. Nice breeze didnt need air-conditioning. They do charge 1500 vatu a day to use the air-conditioning.
The staff go above and beyond for you. Organised all my tours. The restaurant has excellent food. Great coffee. Relaxing massage also. Really enjoyed my stay. Met some great people.

Amazing child free resort for couples to relax in. The grounds and bungalows are beautifully cared for and maintained, basking in the true tropical essence of what makes Vanuatu. It’s quiet, un-crowded and private.
We chose a room with a plunge pool which was a treat, but still managed to use the three main pools also.
The staff are personable and helpful. The restaurant has perfect el fresco dining and a good selection of all you need.
Will definitely stay here again and recommend to all.
Thank you Stacey, Thomas and the rest of the team at Mangoes.

Exceeded expectations. Spacious and clean villa, privacy and all amenities. Gardens and pool areas lovely. Service offered in Restaurant & Bar excellent with appropriate trading times and good value. Staff friendly and very helpful. Location and access to tour and transport information excellent. We also appreciated Special services provided including arranging private dining, picnic basket, in room High Tea and massage all executed with great care and attention by staff. It takes a team to operate an "adults only" resort and from Management & Reception, Chef & kitchen crew, Front of House, Housekeeping and Maintenance our experience was that all combined to create a fantastic environment. We are grateful for their efforts and would highly recommend and wish we had planned a stay longer that 7 nights. Definitely would return. Thanks to all.

There was no cost but the best reception was in the dining room. We just downloaded the mail twice a day over coffee or something stronger later in the day. No problems at all

No they take cash and credit card. Credit card payments attract a 3.5 % surcharge which is pretty much the rule in all hotels and restaurants in Port Vila. Hope this helps.
