I wish to thank the manager Rotha and the entire staff at THE MELANESIAN HOTEL, who served our tour team of 20 with complete generosity. Our experience with your facility for 12 days Rotha was as if we were at home among family, (being the staff who took care of us). In with all of our demands, there was nothing that was too hard for you & your professional team. There was always a solution, an answer, and a resolve to any problem we were concerned with. Rooms were spacious, location was central, nothing was too far, everything you needed was on site, and it was the staff that made it a complete success. A HUGE thank you from all of the tour team. With Christian love

We stayed here on the first and last nights of our holiday in Vanuatu as it was closer to the airport. On both nights we had to leave early for flights the next morning so we weren't there for the allocated times for breakfast. Although breakfast is included they flatly refused to give us anything, not even a piece of fruit to have in our room for the next morning.

I'd give it 3.5/5 but the rating system does not allow it, and am being generous.
The hotel seems to have been around for some time already and it is slowly delapidating. It is not in a bad shape, but parts of it could benefit from a facelift.
Rooms are clean and spacious. The bathroom style is oldish but it is perfectly usable. They do housekeeping only if requested, which is a smart move. Who really needs daily cleaning in their room?
Staff is very helpful and friendly.
There is a quite good restaurant attached to the hotel, and it serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Complimentary continental breakfast is included in the room price, and you can exchange money to items on the menu. Continental breakfast has the usual bread, butter and marmalades with fresh baguette and coffee/tea. They have also (watered down) soup to go with bread.

Since the complimentary breakfast is little more than a snack for a bird, I ordered the Melanesian breakfast (eggs, sausage, mushrooms and bread). A very bad decision that gave me with two days of stomach cramps due to swallowing a bite of the half cooked, rotten smelling sausage. Although the hotel itself is ok, due to that terrible breakfast they deserve a terrible rating.

I stayed at the Melanesian for work for two weeks. Staff were very friendly but a few were not. My room was maintained every second day but sometimes I had to request for room to be cleaned.
The Hotel does not offer after hours dining so be prepared to have snacks on hand after 9pm. Food is a bit pricey but it’s delicious.
On my last night, there was a leak in the room and I had to have a staff bring a bucket to catch the leak.
There is not much security and I experienced some unpleasant encounters with drunk people from the nearby Casino when returning to hotel after 11pm.
I also had to sign a waiver that I accepted that upgraded and scaffolding’s would be done outside my room and I was not to go outside until after 5pm.
The location is perfect. Near supermarket and main market.

Base camp of all our stays in Port-Vila for years, the Melanesian hotel remains a welcoming and quality place. But the Covid crisis has been there and revitalizing the hotel structure should not be easy. Under the pretext of modernizing and completely redoing the restaurant area, we now have breakfast at the "Casa Mia" adjoining the hotel and located after the "Club 21". But their content and diversity is very poor. If the rooms are very correct, the wifi connection from the rooms is uncertain, the water pressure in the showers is low and the water in the swimming pool is not chemically treated in the standards and it tends to turn green. Otherwise bravo for the environmental policy of preserving water resources. Finally, the service is excellent and it is always a pleasure! moreover, that is why we will come back to it.

Due to Air Vanuatu cancelling our flight they put us up in this hotel for 3 nights at no cost. It is a 3 star hotel which has aged a bit. Small motel rooms but comfortable enough with working hot water and air-conditioning. No room service for us and free wifi. Close enough to centre of town you could walk and a casino at the front door.

The hotel is very closr to the Port Vila CBD - VT150 on the minivans and 7mins by foot. It is a fairly basic accommodation. The room I stayed in with 2 beds was spacious, with all the basic amenities. The open option to have your room cleaned daily if you want it was a good one. Some hotels overdo the daily room service. Keep away from rooms near the bar at the big pools; tends to get overly noisy on certain nights, mostly from selfish tourists. Breakfast was basic mostly cereals, bread, fruits, juice and a nice soup. Other staples like eggs, sausages, bacon, baked beens etc had to be purchased. Good choice for short stays.

It is rated as 3 star - but no where close to that. The Bathroom definitely needs improvement and the room does not even have any complimentary water (how did it get rated 3 star???) But you buy it at reception some budget hotels would provide. And the wifi on a daily voucher is a nightmare- claims to work on 3 devices - but hardly works on one and trying to connect to a 2nd is next to impossible. Calls keep getting cut off . Provides a BB on the booking but again no value for money on what is served. Not even eggs for b'fast... in a tourist destination???!!

Very basic hotel, but the staff make it. Always friendly and very helpful. Had problems with the TV for first 3 days but was fixed on day 4. Restaurant attached to hotel was good. Service with a smile and good serving staff. Room was spotless. Had trouble with water in bathroom, connection to appliance burst, cleaned up and fixed within a short time ( thank you again). Happy to recommend this hotel.

There are no beaches like ours.Exvept on the other side of the Island where you pay to go on them. Port Villa is the only town. There is a surf beach past the Art gallery but you can get a ride anywhere by just standing on the street & the next van will pull up & take you anywhere for about $3.00.They have fire dancers on Friday on the beach at the other side of town.
The dining area is at one end of the pool, and the bar (occasionally with music) is sort of towards the other. You can opt not to look at the pool at all and get an room closer to the casino, on the driveway that leads to the street. No view, but no pool noise. On the other hand, I had a second floor room overlooking the non-food end of the pool and wasn't bothered by music or pool crowd noise. However, I usually was out during happy hour, and returned about 7 pm.
There are more places to choose from in the Port Vila area.
