Having first visited Vanuatu in 2001, and after much deliberation, we decided to book Eratap as the venue for our wedding. Making all of the arrangements via email (from the UK) was pretty easy and I have to thank Pascalle and Clare for their patience in dealing with all the questions I had. It turned out that we were one of the largest weddings Eratap have held, largely due to the fact that they don’t want to inconvenience the other guests at the resort. However, when I say large, there were only 12 people (and that included the bride and groom) but, as a venue, it could not have been more perfect. We stayed in villa 11 which has direct access onto a small but very private beach, which is where we held the ceremony and then had the wedding breakfast on the grass at the edge of the property, with the sea as a beautiful backdrop. What really makes Eratap as a resort are the wonderful staff. From the first morning at breakfast they called us by our first names and were all, polite, friendly, incredibly happy and very good at their jobs. The resort is set on its own peninsula with access to a sheltered lagoon. The beach is just perfect and was usually empty (or pretty much empty) during our entire stay. The restaurant is, for the most part, open to the elements and you can even (when the weather is nice) dine at one of the tables on the beach. When the weather is not so good, the tables are moved inside but this only happened once in the 12 days we were there. The food is of excellent quality and praise must go to chef Scott and his team for preparing a good variety of great tasting dishes. The villas are a really good size. As mentioned previously, we stayed in villa 11 which is a one bedroom villa that has a large bed, well equipped en suite with bath and shower plus there is also an outside shower which proved really useful. The villa also has a living area with settees, fridge and satellite tv (although we only used the tv once during our stay). The hotel also have a supply of dvd’s should you need to borrow some. Our villa had two sets of patio doors (one from the living room and one from the bedroom that led directly out onto the garden and beach. We also had a small plunge pool, day bed and gazebo to enjoy.

First stay at Eratap and would definitely return. We are not 'resort people' and I don't like enforced activities or having to engage. I have previously felt trapped in places with awful food. But my partner and daughter agree that Eratap struck that rare balance between choice and rest; activity and privacy. And it is absolutely beautiful. You could run your own private family beachfront holiday or couple retreat but also participate in activities / use equipment. We did coconut oil making, a village visit, a market visit, visited the spa. We booked a picnic / snorkel at a local island by boat, used stand up paddle boards, snorkel gear. My partner had a surf (disappointing he said but it was right out the front). This was all part of the large resort but there are numerous other options on Efate if you wanted to leave the resort. We just didn't want to leave. But we had the feeling the list of activities was endless. The location is ideal - away from noisy Port but close enough to visit. The beachfront villas had quality reef to snorkel 10 feet out the front, private sandy beach, private Nakamal, Westerly sunset view and the constant sound of surf - day and night. The other side of the resort is lagoon, boats and paddle boards. The resort isn't over crowded so even though there were families, mostly with teenagers or older primary kids, it was peaceful and quiet. The food was excellent - and they catered for my GF dietary needs, even the chef came out to check if my chia pudding was ok, made a birthday cake for the teenager. All staff (many from Eratap village) were hospitable and professional. A special mention to Pascale who seemed to strike an effortless balance between being available without interfering. She organised band aids, picnics, food requirements, snorkels and medical visits. She was both cheerful and genuine at the same time - one of those hospo professionals you appreciate and remember. Thank you for looking after us. We also noticed a respectful collegial relationship between the resort staff and local Ni - Van / Eratap community, many of who are also staff, which is something we appreciate in a 'resort' of this price which also impacts on the local community. So thanks Eratap - we may be [this] resort converts.....!

Dear AnneOh2013, Thank you for posting such a detailed and kind review. I am really glad you enjoyed the feeling of what Eratap is, you have really pinpointed what we are trying to achieve. We are super lucky to have such a unique location and we want to compliment that by providing great facilities and service to our guests. You are dead right that we are a resort for non resort people and hopefully we are also a resort for resort people. Something for everyone. We have been very lucky to have Pascalle with us for the last 10 years. Born and raised in Vanuatu and educated in Australia she is fluent in French, English and Bislama and really knows how Vanuatu works. She is able to get things done despite the odds. We hope you are able to come back again one day and glad we have contributed slightly to making you less fearful of resorts. All the best Tony

We have just returned from 9 days at Eratap with our two sons and we all had a fabulous time. The staff, the amenities, the deluxe villa with pool we stayed in was fantastic. The kids absolutely loved the activities they choose to get involved with - the highlight being weapon making with Mack! You can do nothing or so something everyday - spoilt for choice and such a beautiful setting. Thanks to Steven & Maki for looking after us at meal times and all the lovely staff we spoke to each day. We are looking forward to returning one day. Katrina, Jason, Levi & Jude

This resort was the best we have stayed in anywhere in the world. The surroundings were simply wonderful. Beautiful fine white sand; the best coral we have ever seen just 10m off the beach; great tropical fish; kayaks and boats to neighbouring islands; and great accommodation, food and service. We loved it.

My husband and I spent 6 wonderful unforgettable nights at the beautiful Eratap Beach Resort. We were greeted at the airport by Robert who took our bags and gave us cold bottles of water. The trip was only 30 mins to the resort where we were greeted by the lovely Claire with a nice fruit drink and orientation. We stayed in the two bedroom deluxe villa # 2, we were on the ocean side with our own plunge pool. The villa was very spacious and comfy, all the mod cons you need, plunger coffee with local, great tasting Tanna ground coffee, we ended up buying some in Port Vila. Each day at 10am there is an activity, we did the kayak lagoon, cave and island tour, it was so picturesque the water is crystal clear and pleasant temperature, we stopped at the island and had a nice swim. We were back at the resort by 12 just in time for lunch and an afternoon snorkel. The reef was right outside our room, entry to the water is best from in front of the restaurant.  The Eratap village trip was great it was so nice to see the kids at the local school and some local crafts. The resort also offers two boats with drivers to take you where ever you wish, we went to castaway island a couple of times to swim and snorkel we had the island to ourselves, it’s amazing. The resort chef packed a picnic lunch too. The resort restaurant is very affordable and the food is awesome, we ate there everyday, breakfast was included (bacon is so tasty and crispy...yum). Great food choices, the seafood platter for two was amazing. The chef Scott really takes pride in his meals and guests, he came out and chatted to the guests, it was a bonus for hubby that he supports the same English football team! The staff are so friendly and work well together it’s truly a very happy place. The whole resort has a great feel and it’s up to you how much or how little you do. Thank you to Tony & Louisa and all the Eratap staff you guys have created a great resort, we will definitely be back!

Dear Gordy2307, Thank you very much for posting this lovely review. It always makes us so happy to know that guests have enjoyed their stay and that Eratap has left a great impression on them. We always hope all guests can feel that way. So glad you enjoyed the daily guided activities including the village tour, they add a bit of fun and variety to a stay and help you get to know the surrounding area. We are really lucky to be able to provide a link between the Resort and the local people that call this region home. So glad you enjoyed the boats, kayaking, snorkeling and visits to castaway Island. These activities really make a holiday. We have put in an order for two new boats to replace our current ones, these should arrive in April next year and will make the boating experience at Eratap that much better. Great to hear you enjoyed the restaurant and met Scott, he is doing a wonderful job with the cuisine and is happy to accommodate guests food requests...and chat about the English football league. We hope you are able to find a way back to Eratap one day, we'd love to have you back again Kind regards Tony & Louisa
