Neal picked me up from the airport and showed me the highlights of the town on our way to the guesthouse. He offers furnished units and single or family rooms. Hiring a car does help to see more of the island, Neal has bikes that you can use but you have to be aware of dogs chasing you on the island.

Best place to stay in Niue, convieniently located near shops and eateries and situated in a very quite location. Stayed in the newer unit and loved the very neat and well looked after place with all the neccesities . Moderate rate and worth your money. Also loved that they provided wireless internet :)

Rupina and Neil is really friendly and we had a lovely stay. Kololi is very well situated and easy walking distance to all the shops and not far from the sea and the wharf as well. They were so kind as to pick us up at the airport and we had complimentary use of their bicycles as well. We could also use their fins and snorkels. We were sharing the main house with a family group. Sometimes it was a bit awkward but they were very friendly and we were not in the house much anyway. We really enjoyed the fresh papaws and small tomatoes that were put out on the kitchen table for the guests to use. It was awesome. Excellent value for money. Certainly a place to consider if you are on tight budget.

I stayed with family and there were 11 of us including 2 kids and there was loads of space. 1 mast bed upstairs with bathroom and 4 beds downstairs with 1 shared bathroom.fully equipped kitchen, wrap around deck,,laundry. Gas and bbq, the only issues were the neighbouring units would come over and sit inside using internet, and never seemed enough space on clothes line.Very close location to small amount of shops.

I was booked into the upstairs area of the house which consisted of queen size bed walk-in wardrobe leading to an ensuite the was also another bedroom with two single beds...area could be called a suite. The room was very cleaned and well aired with a great air con. The setting of this guest house was great village style with cabins in very close proximity to the main house. Sitting on the verandah was peaceful no matter what hour of the day. Good place to relax after a hectic day of business.

Kololis was the perfect place for our family group of 12. We stayed in the guest house and this was a home away from home. Hosts Rupina and Neal were very welcoming and helpful. We had heaps of space and the facilities were excellent. Situated in Alofi it is an convenient location for getting to either end of Niue and close to the wharf for swimming. Would certainly stay there again.

Situated in Alofi near the wharf, Kololi's is in walking distance to cafés, restaurants and great snorkelling spots. We had twelve people in our group staying in the main house and a two bedroom unit. It's good to have a longe and dining area to congregate in, the facilities are excellent and the hosts Neal and Rupina are very friendly and helpful. We will all definitely stay here again. Alofi is an excellent location for getting to either end of Niue and is close to cycling tracks, the wharf is good to swim or snorkel from. The roosters are a little noisy but you barely notice them after a few days.

We were booked to stay from 30Sep to 10Oct14 - the end of the winter season in Niue. Research said to expect a barmy 25 degree average, but we hit a hot 35 average for 7 days running and even the locals said it was not normally so hot at that time of the year. Then some rain appeased the heat a little but it was still very hot (28 plus degrees) We booked a queen room at the Guest house but on arrival there was also a large family booked there so Neil gave us one of their 3 Bedroom houses to stay in as a substitute. This was exceptional for us as we went for our anniversary and we were very happy to have the private accommodation (fully furnished and at no extra cost). I don't think Niue has been introduced to a air conditioning units yet as we didn't find a single one on the island. But we had numberous fans and iceblocks to keep us cool in house. The house had no phone or internet, but the guest house did and we could use that as we pleased. Neil also provided us bikes free of charge. Albeit, the accommodation was very run down looking (as were the bikes) but inside we had every modern convenience (exc ph and internet) inc fridge, freezer, washing machine, hot water / showers, screened windows to keep insects out, numerous fans, microwave, stove etc. TV and all homely materials. We had booked a cave tour which unfortunately was cancelled and Neil was very good at searching for us and informing us of this. Even though we were supposed to have meals provided at the guest house, the house we got didnt have this so Neil provided us with PawPaw instead. Niue island was hot hot hot, we originally planned to use bicycles but after day 1 we opted to rent scooters at $25 per day for 7 days. I recommend scooters as this provides freedom to feel the wind to cool you down without the car aircon change from hot to cold to hot etc. Petrol is very reasonable i.e. 7 days, approx 150ks = $30 or so. Niue has beautiful friendly people and bountiful scenic views, sea tracks and caves. If doing the Talo Chasm take note of the signs and be sure to investigate the cave at the bottom of the stairs, and then climb the stairs and veer right to see the cave from the top view - along with the beautiful colours of the sea. We were island bound (by choice) so didnt go fishing, but we explored the whole island in the 7 days we had the scooters and tried almost every restaurant and shop we could find along the way. These were normally to have a bite to eat or to get a beer. The food is above average NZ prices but the Beer was the same price as the softdrinks and water. ave $4 each, but 6.50 at the resort. Be prepared in Niue, they have NZ currency but expect to pay almost double, sometimes triple the cost of any groceries, meals etc. However, the smokes and booze are very cheap and the Bond store will honour duty free for upto 3 days after arriving in Niue if you take your boarding pass with you. The main part is Alofi and this area has a kiwibank, an indian restaurant (gills), and a few other shops etc that should meet all your needs. Do shop around though. Things to look out for is Niue has only in the last 2 yrs gotten eftpos and credit cards and there are very few shops etc that use anything but cash - however the bond store (bottle store) has credit card and eftpos facilities, as does the Matavai Resort, Gills Indian Restaurant, Petrol Station, And a few restaurants. Every one else - cash, cash and more cash. Credit Card transactions incur a surcharge fee When you arrive off the plane at the airport they greet you with a song coming off the plane and present you with a flyer that tells you what and where to go - this we found very useful. Restaurant musts are the ones that have the cultural festival, check the information centre for times and bookings and confirm with them if a shuttle is available if you need it (cost $5 return) or are drinking. And ensure you take a bit of extra cash to offer as a donation for the cultural performances. Always check if they have eftpos or credit card facilities. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and the freedom to self explore with a fair few conveniences scattered around the island. The people and scenery are welcoming and beautiful. There were lots of ghekkos and flies by the sea, but you make it what you want of it and it does offer you a true island experience. I recommend 7 days for anyone thinking of going to Niue if land bound, or 10 or more days if you have booked some of the tours or activities. Ensure you have sunscreen or get it from the information centre as its cheaper. Indulge in the Matavai Resort for a meal (they let you use their pool too) and explore, explore explore to your hearts content. Gills Indian restaurant does awesome $5 beef or chicken rotis, Kaiika has yummy milkshakes, Jennas and Matavai have a very welcoming cultural show / dinner, and there was so much more to enjoy The only negative is the Roosters that run wild and have a conversation with each other 24/07, and the blasted dogs that run wild and often bark 24/07. Possibly the heat was a bit much too if we didnt get to a swimming hole but I'd suggest June - August are the better months for cooler weather

Having lived in Niue 30 years ago it was time to return with our children and grandchildren to remind them or give them a tropical experience. 16 of us (10 adults and 6 children) booked out the whole of Kololi's Guesthouse. We had 5 separate family groupings which allowed us a large bedroom each on the ground floor and an ensuite with two bedrooms upstairs. Absolutely everything we needed was provided including fresh fruit (pawpaw and bananas) and drinking coconuts. The large kitchen was well equipped and the huge lounge area allowed the children room to move. I did have to clean the barbecue before use but it came with a full tank of gas so no problem. There were cupboards full of additional linen and there was plenty of hot water for showers etc. We all enjoyed our stay and were appreciative of Neil and Rupina's friendly management. The chooks added an additional interest for the kids and after the first night we didn't even notice the crowing!

Great place, can't fault it for what you get for value for money. Nothing too much trouble. Highly recommend the second story room (with ensuite) - quiet and spacious. Free transfers, wi-fi, fresh fruit and more! Great location - couldn't be more central. Only recommendation is take ear plugs for the early morning rooster call....but that is likely to be a requirement for all of Niue!
