I feel like I'm visiting friends here. Such great staff and a beautiful room and hotel. It's now my third time to this hotel, and I couldn't be more happy with everything. Still the best place to eat in town as well - not for lack of trying to find something that compares around here. Free wifi, a nice relaxing...

This is, simply put, the best place to stay in Georgetown. Comfy, funky, tidy and with good service, Cara Lodge really has no serious competition. Set in a pair of historic houses, room formats vary, but the two we stayed in were fine. Decent WiFi -- which is as good as it gets in Guyana. Do not expect high speed....

This is a wooden structure build in Colonial times with clean rooms. The service is excellent and it is good to see the same staff is on for many years. The menu offers great local and international dishes with good portion sizes and top quality food. It is easy to walk to the market or the Supermarket and a taxi...

Stayed at Cara Lodge on a few occasions between last year and now. Nice Georgian style building and nice covered courtyard area. The check in staff is pleasant enough and most of the restaurant staff . Rooms seem freshly painted walls clean. However, the television did not work and the thing that kills it for me for all hotels is the bathroom...

I am glad you enjoy our beautiful building and the staff. I am however, disappointed to learn that your bathroom was not up to our usual Cara standards. I have spoken with our Housekeeping Manager and can assure you that we shall be working quickly to remedy the problems you mentioned. We hope this will not prevent you from visiting...

When I arrived the air con was noisy in the room I had been able to request and this was immediately fixed. Not knowing my way around town when I first arrived and the various places to eat, the kitchen was good. As a vegetarian initially there were not many items on the menu for me to choose from but...

I stayed at the Cara Lodge in mid December and as usual I enjoyed every minute. The Cara burger and fries were the first food we had as we were fresh out of the jungle. Absolutely heaven to the taste buds . Rooms, service , breakfast top class and I can't wait to stay at the Cara again soon.

My overall assessment of this place is "average", at best. As highly rated as this small Guyanese hotel is (for which I am unclear), I found it to be an interesting, charming place, but a bit cold and unprofessional. That said, it could be so much better! Rooms could be better appointed with some additional art work, the ambience could...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The history aficionado will appreciate a stay at Cara Lodge, Guyana. It is one of the oldest and grandest structures in Georgetown, and is the best known and most popular hotel in Guyana. Cara Lodge was built in the 1840s and originally consisted of two houses. It has a long and romantic history and was the home of the first Lord Mayor of Georgetown. Over the years, the property has been visited by many dignitaries including King Edward VII who stayed at the house in 1923. He was of course later to abdicate and marry the American Wallis Simpson. Other dignitaries have included President Jimmy Carter in 1996, HRH Prince Charles in April 2000, HRH Prince Andrew in 2004 and Mick Jagger in 2005. This magnificent home turned hotel offers the tradition and nostalgia of a bygone era, complete with service and comfort of the most luxurious of hotels, all in a most congenial family atmosphere. Our signature dining establishment, the Bottle Restaurant, has been hailed as the best restaurant in the capital. It is open for lunch and dinner everyday, except Sundays. At Cara Lodge, we have worked hard to create a setting that is the perfect marriage of old world charm and contemporary comfort – ideal for the traveller wishing to experience a taste of Guyana’s past, and the business person wishing modern-day amenities. ... more   less
