I liked my stay at Masaya, but to be honest expected a bit more after reading the reviews and lonely planet entry. The common areas are lovely and it's easy to meet people as a solo traveller. The breakfast is great, with a good fruit selection, coffee, eggs and toast. The reason I deduct a point are the dorms. Having stayed in a lot of dorms all over South America, I had different expectations of the 6-bed I stayed in. The dorm was tiny, dark and without any airflow. The only small window didn't open. The room didn't have a mirror either, however on the bright side, the beds have individual sockets. But both the room and beds are definitely not suitable for claustrophobics - you're basically sleeping in a box. The bathrooms are in the courtyard, meaning that if you have to go during the night, you have to climb down the stairs and cross the courtyard. The staff is very nice and helpful though and generally it's a decent place to stay for a couple of nights if you're not too concerned the comfort in the dorms.

We stayed here and really enjoyed the stay. Staff organised tours taxis etc. Food good atmosphere too. The only downside was the room location and associated noise. The staff and facilities were fine but the room we stayed in was so noisy from 07.00a m and noisy right up to 1a.m. I get it's a hostel but I would only recommend for younger or solo travelers. But again apart from this lovely place to stay!

Masaya hostel ended up being conveniently located to the Graffiti tour, the main historic square, and lots of good walking around area. The breakfast was amazing too! A large spread of food, buffet style. I shared a private room with a friend, and the beds were very comfortable. Inreally liked being tucked away in the courtyard. You couldn't hear anything from the main area, even the music! Speaking of music, we were there when Masaya had a fun theme night for Valentine's day. There was a DJ, and everyone was dancing! Long story short, a very clean, fun, and convenient hostel! I hope to stay in another Masaya property in the future!

I stayed here for 5 nights. The dorms and shower facilities were great, all clean and functional. There were activities organised most evenings, like Salsa, meet and greets, and arranged nights out - all great ways to meet people. I was travelling on my own, so this was great. The bar offers good drinks deals, and the food is pretty good as well. Amazing breakfast each morning of eegs, pancakes and fruit - for an additional, but cheap price. Really well located, in the heart of La Candalaria, with lots of resturants nearby, and most of the starting point for tours minutes away. Staff were super lovely and helpful.
