Perfect location in heart of Beirut. Front desk stuff was very friendly and helpful. The whole place need renovation, which is in progress in some places, so some floors are quite dirty and very noisy.

DO NOT GO THERE! A bunch of thieves and lieres. Booked this place on a promotion as one of the cheapest place in Hamra. What a surprise it was when at the reception I had to pay 33% MORE! They calculate USD into LL with their own exam he rate = 2000LL per $... where official rate = 1500LL per $. That gives us a 33% rip off comparing to what you booked online. Confirmed that with Lebanese police and this is illegal practice! Don’t get be fooled! On top of that when I tried to explain that the lady on the reception became rude to me, making some inappropriate comments. Complete lack of customer service. I met her couple of days later on the street accidentally. We had a short discussion where she confirmed this is the way how they work and she have to rip off people! Apart from that very ugly place - old, not refurbished, smelly. Just avoid it. With the price they rip you off you can find in Hamra clean and new hotels with a pool and restaurants. AVOID IT!

Response from Myrna S, Owner at Embassy Hotel Lebanon
Responded 20 Mar 2020
Dear Mr Szczepan, We are extremely alarmed by your statement regarding us being "a bunch of thieves and lieres" during your stay with us, we take these situations very seriously indeed. I would have appreciated if you had contacted me directly so that I could show you the opposite, and I could have explained to you the terrible economic financial crisis Lebanon is going through, a subject by now, everybody is aware of.. We have not had any record of such an unfairness for years, but as always we do apologise for any inconvenience caused to our valued guests. Please note that hotel comissions are paid to guests providers as Booking.com, Expedia, etc.. in USD currency. When a guest insists to pay in local currency like Lebanese pounds, yes indeed, before the crisis the banks rate and exchange rates shops were the SAME. But after this blind and very dangerous financial bankruptucy situation my country is going through, unfortunately we have to follow the exchange rates practiced in exchange shops and not in banks that are not giving their depositors their basic rights such as retrieving even 200 usd per week, and not even in USD currency. You do not have the right of retrieving more per weeks, etc.. etc.. As for the "old and ugly place", hopefully in a year , it will change.. because we are in the heart of the renovation process, even though in the middle of the covid-19 crisis, and the financial crisis, so hopefully if you return to us, you will be able to view a more fashionable hotel. I am sorry that you've had a terrible experience, and I appreciate that we cannot get it right all of the time but would hope that when we make a mistake, we really try to rectify it during the guests stay, to ensure that they leave us feeling happy and relaxed. Thank you, Myrna Najjar Serhal Managing owner

If you have a look at some of the previous reviews, you can read that the owner of this property wrote on May 20th that "we're starting our renovation around end of May 2019" and, on June 19th, that "we are starting our complete room's renovation on the end of June 2019". Let me then reveal that at the end of November the renovation hasn't taken place yet, which explains why the rooms and everything they contain are so old and in such a bad state of maintenance. The owner told me they didn't start the renovation because of the country's social and political situation, but as far as I know, protests started on Oct. 17th, so I'm wondering what it happened between June and October that forced them to postpone the advertised renovation. Something customers should also know is that this hotel will rip you off if you pay in Lebanese pounds, because they apply an exorbitant, shameful exchange rate of 1$=1.900 LL. As for the room, I already said that everything is old and very tired: the furniture, the doors, the fitted carpet, the fridge, the TV, the bathroom's mirror, the shower curtain (it had black mold), the bathroom's tiles (they had damp stains), the water tap handles (they were full of calcium) and etc. By the way, it is also true that the water from the sink has a salty taste. In regards to common areas like the reception, the stairs and the corridors, they look old and tired as well (and the corridors reek of cigarettes). Is there then anything positive about this hotel? The answer is yes: the location, which is very good, as Hamra is a pleasant, modern district, it has good dining options (we loved "King Fries - Malik al batata", in Hamra Street) and you can still walk from here to Pigeon Rocks, the Corniche, Zaitunay Bay and the City Center. The hotel's wifi is ok, the basic Lebanese breakfast is still ok, the staff is neither good nor bad (they just obey orders), there is hot water, and the price is the cheapest in the area.

Responded 20 Mar 2020
Dear Gwaladar, It's sometimes painful to read some what I feel are UNFAIR reviews. Thank you for taking the time leaving your thoughts to others, and yes please note, that no one is ripping off no one.. At the time when your review was written, yes indeed 1 usd = 2000 LL.. nowadays, 1 usd = 2500/2600!! You are mentionning the banks.. yes indeed the banks!!!! We talk about banks in a normal country not going through the most terrible crisis he's ever had, not knowing when and if ones see back their deposits in banks in the same value as when they were deposited years ago. AS for the renovation, as one can expect, some delays happen sometimes.. and that does not mean that we do not speak the truth, trying to fool our customers, because this is not part of our ethics.. but as per today I can assure you that already 40% of the property is under heavy renovation and repair to the better.. And just a small note "en passant".. the foolish way is to renovate under drastic economical conditions , and to coronate this the COVID-19 epidemy.. yes indeed, this property will shine again in new minimalistic contemporary rooms and bathrooms.. Having said so, that does not mean that it's so degraded the way you are mentionning it.. It's simply old, at the time being, and very basic, with very very low rates in the whole of Lebanon.. we're talking an average of USD 24.00 per night for 2. Thank you again for all your comments, and looking forward to receiving you among us one day in the future when all this will end.. cordially, Myrna Najjar Serhal Managing owner

this is not the best or the worst hotel in the area, but it is certainly the cheapest clean option you can find (25 euros/30 usd per night for a twin room). Reception people are nice and helpful, and you'll find nearby everything you may need. Keep in mind, though, that, while the quality of the connection is decent, there is no internet at all 2am-7am every day.

The Embassy Hotel has a great location in the middle of Hamra St. almost close to everywhere you think to go, the price is incomparable to any other Hotel in the district, the hotel is a bit old and the rooms are not that much comfort however if you are in Beirut for traveling rather than enjoying luxury hotel then the Embassy hotel is the one.

If you want a 5-star hotel with spotless rooms, you should go find that. But if you want a nice hotel with an amazing staff and location - this is your place. I came to Beirut alone and the entire staff at this hotel went above and beyond to make sure I felt safe and had a great trip. From booking travel to recommending day trips, the staff was excellent, I cannot emphasize that enough. My flight out of Beirut is at 1am and they’re even letting me store my luggage for a full day at no cost - the service here is definitely unbeatable. Location-wise, you’re right in the heart of Hamra and most things I wanted to do or see were within a 20 minute walk. The free breakfast is generous and kept me full well through lunch. What people have said about the rooms are true, they’re not extremely fancy but they’re clean and pretty large. The showers had very hot water and I never had an issue with the strange taste that people were talking about. Granted...I only used the water for showering and brushing my teeth - but I had no issues. I would definitely stay here again, you would be hard pressed to find a nicer group of people managing any hotel you stay at.

"Amazing staff and location-this is your place".. What a great way to start my day today.. For the time being, this is the best that we have, but please be sure Jennifer that on your next visit to Beirut, you'll stay in our newly renovated rooms and bathrooms.. we're totally relooking the bathrooms and the bedrooms and we're starting our renovation around end of May 2019. Hospitality, as everybody knows, is about a caring team, dedicated and of course... genuine.. Thank you for your feedback that made me so happy this morning, and that motivates me for going forward to the best and nothing but the best in the near future.. It was wonderful to welcome you in our premisces, and hoping to see you soon among us again.. Warm regards, Myrna Najjar Serhal Managing Owner

The Embassy Hotel is located in Hamra on the street running parallel to Hamra Street. Therefore it is right next to all the restaurant, pubs and coffee shops. The hotel reception is very nice and decorative. My room was nice and big. There was also a nice balcony. The bed was big. However the bathroom was tiny but functional. The water from the sink had a salty taste, but I appreciate that it is not the hotel's fault. There is a daily room service but the bedsheets were not properly cleaned and had stains on them. Also towels are not changed daily. There is a breakfast from 8am. The thought is there, but it is not the greatest breakfast - but adequate to start off the day. There is also free WiFi, which is fast enough. However the hotel's main asset is its staff - they are just amazing. They are so friendly and helpful. They all spoke good English. There are other nearby hotels, but Embassy is the cheapest.

Thank you so much for taking some time to drop us few lines in a review. Yes indeed, this year we are lucky.. The rain was quite abundant and we hope that we won't run short of water like in all of Lebanon.. Lebanon's major drawbacks are its scarce water and electricity.. and most of people do buy water and electricity from other private providers than the state.. We hope to see you again in our renovated rooms and bathrooms soon.. We have not started yet, but we are planning to do so starting around end of May.. this process will take around 6 to 9 months to finish.. and we'll have new, minmalist contemporary renovated rooms in all the property.. Afterwards, the next step will be the lobby renovation that will follow too.. :) Looking forward to your good news always, Kind regards, Myrna

I want to give special thanks to the Hotelmanger. Upon my father´s request from Germany she has personally prepared a Birthday-tablet with lebaneas sweeties, cake and almond drink (I am "part-time vegan"). And also thank you for the lovely birthday-greetings! So I felt well arrived for the few days I´ve spent here in Beirut. Even the breakfast hasn´t fit to my diet I do not want to stress the staff at all for that fair price. Everyone is kind and I felt well kept there. I enjoyed the calm atmosphere at the courtyard-side of the hotel. Going out I was in the middle of Beirut´s life. Best wishes, Rodin
