This place is clean, affordable, and very well situated for the sights in the old city. The breakfast on the roof garden really is lovely, though it gets crowded quick so go early for a table with a good view. The rooms are are charming and the staff friendly and helpful; restaurants in this area are touristy, however...

I spent five nights at Marmara Guesthouse, where I had reserved a double room for New Year's Eve 2014/2015. The room was nice, with big bathroom, large comfortable bed and a big wardrobe where to put clothes, shoes and jackets. The room was cleaned and the towels changed every day. Nice location (ten minutes by walk to Hagia Sophia, the...

Noisy ground floor rooms, I was awoken in the middle of the night due to guests coming in and out of the main door as all guests were given a main door key in addition to your room key. I don't like wearing ear plugs when I sleep. But my spouse slept through the noise with ear plugs. Ground floor...

Picked Marmara guesthouse because of Lonely Planet reviews. First night in downstairs room was a nightmare being woken up several times by loud noises, people talking, etc. would not refund our money for second night, but moved us to another room for third night. That room was cold! Not worth the money.

Marmara Guesthouse is located only a few short blocks from the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque in the charming Sultanahmet quarter. There are dozens of restaurants just around the corner. The rooms are nice and clean, bathrooms are well appointed. Breakfast is served each morning on the rooftop patio with views of the Sea of Marmara - a wide selection...

Marmara Guesthouse is very close to the Blue Mosque and Aya Sofya. It is very safe walking around this area. The guesthouse has a nice intimate feel. The breakfast on the rooftop terrace overlooking the sea is great.

See photos of the double room on the first floor and the roof terrace where generous breakfast was served. The double room I had was bright, clean & comfortable. The bathroom, however, was cramped. I requested for a universal adapter and it was immediately delivered to my room. When I checked out of the guesthouse, the young man at the...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
