The Bank Hotel Istanbul From Past to Present, “TREASURE OF HISTORY” The Bank Hotel Istanbul is located in Karakoy, one of the most prominent neighbourhoods of Istanbul known for its history. Karakoy welcomes its guests with views of Turkey's world-famous historical peninsula. With its sophisticated design the Bank Hotel Istanbul promises more than just ordinary accommodation for its guests. With a magnificent view of old Istanbul, the restaurant on the rooftop offers an unforgettable experience for its guests with a international cuisine. The Bank Hotel Istanbul, sits in a region that hosts artists, a concept intertwined with art, respecting the locals and international guests. The Bank Hotel Istanbul is perfectly located to explore bohemian Beyoglu and historical Sultanahmet. VOYVODA STREET Bank Street in which the hotel is situated is not just any street, Vaivoda Street as it was and is still officially called, has always played a central role in the life of the district of Galata. Originally a thoroughfare within the inner walls of Galata, its importance is attested as early as the fourteenth century by the presence of the Palazzo del Comune, the Genoese town hall and by the Piazza, the market place of the Genoese town. In Ottoman times, until 1682, it preserved its importance thanks to the survival of the half autonomous Genoese community, the Magnifica Comunita di Peyra, in parallel with the development of European Merchant communities whose warehouses were conveniently located in the same area and to the establishment of some local units of the Ottoman administration. Thus, it was the office and probably the residence of the police chief of Galata the Vaivoda that eventually gave the street its name, while the court of Galata was located just a street below, on Mahkeme (Court) Street. The existence and centrality of the street is attested by the famous seventeenth century Ottoman traveler Evliya Çelebi. During the second half of the 17th century, the street which was named by Evliya Çelebi as ' The Road of Vaivode' had become the financial and business hub of not only İstanbul but also of the entire Ottoman Empire. During this period, Vaivode Street had become the centre of attraction for bankers and banks, amongst the people it was known as 'The Street of Bankers'. SÜMERBANK BUILDING Italian architect Antonie Tedeshi, born in 1867 in İstanbul had an office in Pera, where he practiced his profession as an architect. Sümerbank Building is the only building left as his artifact. This construction is the building of the 'Credit General Ottoman/Deutsche Bank/Sümerbank', believed to be built around the 1880's, at the address of Bankalar Caddesi No 25, Karakoy. THE BANK HOTEL İSTANBUL The building is designed by Antoine Tedeschi in the style of neo-renaissance. The Bank Hotel Istanbul is one of the typical examples of the eclectic architectural style of the 19th century, with its historic buildings. The hotel building was purchased by Yilmaz Ulusoy Holding in 2010 and started a brand-new spring in its story. Yilmaz Ulusoy's took the first step to restore and transform the building into a hotel with a respectful approach to history and nature at the highest level. After the purchase of the building by Yilmaz Ulusoy Holding in 2010, The Bank Hotel Istanbul emerged as a result of the restoration initiated by architect Mimar Khan Tümertekin, preserving the historical texture of the building, which was restored with the principle of repairing the original without damaging the artistic value.

The Bank Hotel Istanbul captivates guests with its historic charm and a blend of classic and cultural ambiance, reflective of Istanbul's heritage. Travelers often commend the hotel for its professional and friendly service, though some have concerns regarding responsiveness.
While the hotel's cleanliness and prime location near key attractions are highlights, opinions on value for money are mixed, with some finding it overpriced despite the luxurious amenities like the rooftop bar. Room experiences vary, with decor and space praised but some issues regarding AC and noise.

Ottoman Splendor, Eastern Hospitality. American Express Travel Services recommended several hotels, highlighting three as the best in Istanbul. I was fortunate to secure a reservation at The Bank Hotel. Located in the historic Karaköy neighborhood, The Bank Hotel seamlessly combines modern luxury with historical charm. Its prime location offers easy access to the bohemian ambiance of Beyoğlu and the rich history of Sultanahmet. The hotel features opulent rooms and suites adorned with patterned ceilings, parquet floors, and marble bathrooms equipped with rain showers. The building's name and facade evoke the architectural style of an era when cities like Havana were considered gems. Constructed in 1867 by Italian architect Antoine Tedeschi in the Neo-Renaissance style, the building originally served as a bank. In 2010, it was purchased byYılmaz Ulusoyy Holding and meticulously restored, preserving its historical and cultural significance. Today, it operates as an upscale boutique hotel renowned for its excellent service. After a long journey from Bogotá, I arrived early at the hotel. Isam and Elis at the front desk were exceptionally accommodating, facilitating an early check-in and offering a delightful café latte. The service throughout my stay was superb. When I mentioned that I had used the Nespresso capsules, they were replenished promptly and graciously. The staff at the rooftop bar and restaurant were equally welcoming, making me feel that my satisfaction was their personal priority. Karaköy is a vibrant neighborhood filled with cafes, restaurants, and wine bars, as well as the ferry station. Taking a ferry ride alongside local commuters offers an anthropological glimpse into the daily life of Istanbul's residents. It's been a while since a hotel experienc has thrilled me so much! The Bank Hotel truly deserves every star in its recommendations. On this second night of Hanukkah, happy Holidays

We’re a family of 4 and we stayed here for 4 nights. We were quite jet lagged for the first few days and found the beds to be extremely comfortable with great air conditioning which helped us recover quickly. The hotel staff were fantastic and took care of everything for us at check in while we sat in the downstairs lounge and relaxed while having some drinks. We had booked classic rooms but got free upgrades to a Superior room and a Deluxe room. The Superior room was huge and the Deluxe room was more than adequate.
We were on the first floor (floor just above the ground floor) and there was some noise from the neighborhood at night but we didn’t find it excessive. If you’re a light sleeper you may want to request a room on a higher floor or not facing Bankalar street.
The neighborhood can’t be beat! We had booked guided tours that picked us up at the hotel, but honestly we could have managed transportation on our own as the tram stops just a few steps down from the hotel and goes directly to the Sultan Ahmed area. Additionally the Tunel funicular station is just a block down the hill and that makes it very easy to get to Isticlal street and Taksim Square.
Breakfast was great! Not only were there great buffet options but there was a custom egg menu as well. I really enjoyed getting my first taste of Turkish menemen (eggs with tomatoes and peppers), it was quite good!
We never ate at the restaurant, but we did try the rooftop bar one night and it was absolutely worth it for the stunning views of the Golden Horn and the old town area including Sulimaniye Mosque. Note that you may want to make a reservation for it as it can get busy during peak times. The reservation requires a 500 TL deposit per person which is credited toward your purchase. The rooftop bar is 18+ only though.
Overall highly recommended! I think the service and location make it worth the somewhat premium price.

The Good: The hotel is in a very beautiful, historic building, and is very conveniently located. The Bad: 1. The inside of the hotel and room was hot and stuffy. Could not sleep. Reception explained that the temperature controls don’t work in the rooms - as October was considered winter, the hotel switched the central heating on, and no matter how I set my temperature control, the room was hot and stuffy. I had to sleep with my balcony door open, but this exposed to me to city noise and pollution. 2. My ‘fresh’ towels smelled of cigarette smoke. 3. It took the hotel 3 days to fix TV channels that were not working. 4. I was out for the day. The hotel, knowing I was out, phoned my guide to relay to me that my TV channels would be fixed that day. When I returned to the hotel at night, my room was not made up. When I phoned reception, the Concierge argued with me that my do not disturb light had been on during day which is why they did not make up my room. If they could go in to fix the TV, and they knew I was out (phoning my guide to relay a message), why could they not make up the room, or ask if the room could be made up. It turned out the do not disturb switch was mixed up with the light switches - I did not know it was turned on. The Concierge explained that they don’t have staff at night.to make up rooms. What if, for example, someone messes a cup of coffee in the bed. Do they have to sleep in it until the morning? 5. WiFi security is very poor - all internet traffic can be monitored. Passwords were room numbers and year of birth, which is easy to guess for someone who wants to be mischievous - pick a room number and start counting up by year until you guess the correct combination. 6. When speaking to the Concierge about the above problems, often on a daily basis, they always said they would ‘write it in the book’ for Management. Management never contacted me once about any of the complaints. When checking out I was asked if I enjoyed my stay, I said no. They appeared genuinely surprised, then asked me to tell them what was wrong. There appears to be no communication between the various Concierges and their management.

We stayed at The Bank for three days and were unfortunately very disappointed. Pros: Great location in the middle of the city, very nice rooftop bar (unfortunately quickly full), friendly staff Cons: We booked a duplex suite, which was of course more expensive than a normal room. The suite was overall very impractical because it went over two floors and bathroom and sleeping area were accessible via a steep staircase, but the whole storage area (closets, shelves) was downstairs, so you had to walk up and down constantly to get something. This is only partially apparent from the room description. These suites are practically located in the basement, so the only windows in the room lead directly to the sidewalk street. So every passer-by can look directly into the room. Of course, there are blinds, but this again means that you have to spend the whole day in the dark or under electric light. The switch system regarding the lighting is also more than strange, the TV only works when you press the main switch, then the whole room is brightly lit, which is rather annoying to the television. If you still want to ventilate occasionally (we like to do this) you are woken up in the morning from six o'clock by road and construction noise (construction work is taking place on the opposite side of the road, so about five meters from the room window) and the cars drive felt honking in the middle of the room. So all that remains is the possibility of virtually hermetically sealing the room to have some privacy. Immediately after we were shown the room, we voiced our displeasure and asked for another room daily, but only ever got the lapidary response that the hotel is just booked up. Of course, that may be, but renting such a room at such a price is unacceptable. The breakfast buffet was fine, the egg dishes were freshly prepared. The breakfast room was very gloomy - of course also due to the old building - but that then immediately at the end of the breakfast period (i.e. 10.30 am) the lights in the room are still switched off so that the guests just don't drink ten more minutes in peace is not necessarily good service either. The cappuccino for breakfast must be paid extra - seriously, in an expensive 5-star hotel? We would definitely not book the hotel anymore and can not recommend it.

Overall, the hotel doesn’t qualify as a 5 stars hotel in my view, I do a lot of traveling and usually stay at Marriott properties.
Some of the positives: The hotel has a very good location close to the tram & historical areas. They have restored an old bank into a boutique hotel and have done a great job at the Interiors. We stayed in superior and deluxe rooms which were small but luxurious, house keeping was good although they just put one bottle of water a day which is very little.
Breakfast spread was limited but good quality, they can do with some more variety so it doesn’t get boring if you’re staying for a week or so. You can only get tea/black coffee included in the breakfast price, a cappuccino is an additional charge which is such a strange policy in a 5 stars hotel. Never seen this before!!
On the service/ hotel staff side, this is where I would rate them very poorly. For a 5 stars hotel, I was surprised to see they don’t offer any local transportation support, they don’t have any local taxi arrangements and the concierge/bell boys just stand outside the hotel and are no help if you need to hail a cab or explain anything to the driver. Hotel staff at the reception are not helpful and boarderline rude. As a gold elite Bonvoy member, they should show a little bit more attention and willingness to help, unfortunately there was non of that. Since we had an afternoon flight out, we asked early on via emails and in person to have one of our rooms extended for a couple of hours as late check out. Simple request I thought! They kept pushing the request out to the last day “to check availability” which made our last day planning harder to do. They confirmed adding the request on their system and never did. They never followed up with me or provided any updates. Finally on check out, the staff member at the reception just said they don’t have availability without asking my room number or even checking on the system! Rude and unapologetic about how they handled my request from the beginning, acting as if it were my fault to have such an unrealistic request!! This is literally the first Marriott hotel I stay at where I’m not asked during check out about my stay and whether it was a good one, they simply don’t care! This interaction was enough for us to decide not to return again to this Marriott. In a city like Istanbul, there are so many other hotels to choose from so keep looking. There is a JW Marriott close by which would be a better option in the future. It’s such a shame that the service level takes away from what could be a luxury & modern hotel!

Dear Salma, Thank you very much for your detailed feedback. We are so sad to see that you were dissatisfied with your recent stay. I would like to inform, unfortunately, the lack of taxis in the city especially in a touristic area like ours is not the hotel's fault and the hotel's responsibility, as the local taxi is operated by the municipality. If the guests ask for the private transfer service we could help them and it's guaranteed to be at the hotel at exactly the time they asked for as it's under the hotel's control and we do have this service at the hotel, but finding a taxi from outside it's out of our control. However, our colleagues from the bell team do their utmost to help the guests to find taxis, and may take time to find a taxi. For the late checkout, we are not able to give the guests a late checkout from the first day that they arrive as the late checkout is depending on availability, especially the time that you have stayed with us as we were fully booked due to the Christmas and New Year holidays. If my colleagues didn’t ask for your room number it has two reasons. First, we normally know our guests and in which room they are staying and second when we are fully booked we are sure that we are not able to give any guest any late check out as the guests who are going to arrive also have the right to check in to their room on time not with the delay because we gave another guest late check-out. Again thank you so much for your feedback. Wishing you a great year ahead. Best wishes, The Bank Team

As someone who has stayed in dozens of boutique or luxury hotels both in Turkey and abroad, I applaud this hotel and its staff for giving me the worst experience I have ever had. They agreed to use the bridal preparation room at a very exorbitant price. Although it was stated that it would be used for bridal preparation, they never changed the check-in time from 15:00 and the room was reserved for 2 days. But their attitude and style was such that it was as if they did us a favor. They were very rude and far from courtesy. The fee they charged for the drinks we ordered for the room, such as coffee and water, was incredibly exorbitant. There was not even an invoice for this. They did their best to create problems at every stage. I hope this comment reaches the necessary places and the necessary warnings are made about the staff.

Dear Naz, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. As this review is the same as you posted on Google we replied to you with the same answer. As we have searched our system we couldn't find a reservation under your name and it seems you were not staying at the hotel. We have received another feedback from a guest who had stayed with us and it seems you are also writing on his behalf with another account. We would like to inform you Mr. Erdal Metin made his reservation through Expedia himself and we have informed them the emergency exit which is connected to the fire alarm wouldn't be open during your wedding ceremony. Also, we would like to inform you that early check-in depends on the hotel capacity and availability which we couldn't guarantee in advance. The guests who need to have the room early better guarantee their early check-in by reserving one day before. You mentioned in your review you made a contract with us and you paid a lot for that. We would like to inform you that they only paid for the room accommodation (which also paid to Expedia, not the hotel )and the extras they used from the minibar and room service the guests normally see the prices before usage. The breakdown folio and signed checks (by Mr. Metin) were given to Mr. Erdal Metin upon check-out and have also been emailed to Mr. Metin as per his request. The entire team did their utmost to help them and all the guests, but we are still receiving reviews like yours from the wedding ceremony guests ( not the hotel guests). And last. would like to inform you that we are not responsible for the promises given by the Wedding Event Management who is not authorized to decide on behalf of the hotel management. Another thing that we need to add is The Bank Hotel Istanbul and the Wedding venue where your friends celebrated their wedding are two different enterprises with different management and they are just next to each other, if they are assuring you something regarding our property it needs to be confirmed from our side prior to your reservation. Again thank you for your time. Have a great day! Best wishes, The Bank Team

The Bank Hotel Istanbul is the coolest, most classic, romantic, boutique hotel we’ve ever stayed at in Istanbul. It’s relaxed luxury with authentic Turkish hospitality without being pretentious, and is excellent value for money. It’s located perfectly next to the Bosphorus bridge connecting Europe and Asia, with a nearby tram that easily (just tap your credit card to ride) and safely took us in just minutes to all the historic sights in the Old City’s Sultanahmet area. The Hotel’s interior and guest rooms meticulously capture the building’s grand past, with high ceilings with intricate moldings. The bathrooms are spacious with wall to wall beautiful marble. Our evening visit to the Roof Top Bar for drinks and sunset view of the Bosphorus was one of the highlights of our visit. What really made this experience exceptional is the Hotel’s welcoming and friendly staff from reception to dining, and all its service providers. And a special thanks to Mr Gilani and his team for making our stay so comfortable. We highly recommend the Bank Hotel.

I believe this hotel is about as good as you can get in an unfortunate city like Istanbul. It is 5 stars ONLY in that context. In NYC or London or Paris — or Cleveland, for that matter — it would be a generous 3.
I stayed in a superior double bed room that was all bed… very little room to maneuver beyond that. View onto a scruffy side street, but at least reasonably quiet. The noise came from above me. This converted bank was not built for staying in overnight. Thus the soundproofing is non-existent. You hear EVERY step your upstairs neighbor makes. Think of your first apartment after college and you’ll know what I mean. It’s so loud and annoying, the moving around woke me up every night.
No tissues… you must use toilet paper that is free form… no holder. Very, very down market amenities. Rooms extremely warm and stuffy and controlled by hotel, so plan on getting a table fan in order to breathe
One small bar/sort of restaurant with very, very, very limited options. Appetizers or meze taste like packaged products. The supposed kitchen prepared the lamb shoulder I had one evening and it consisted of very, VERY little lamb, and mostly pita chips in an oily, tasteless sauce. Tomato salad was cut tomato’s c cucumbers and onions— no dressing, no oil, no vinegar, no seasoning, no nothing!
Staff is OK, but I think this hotel, like so many in the Middle East and Europe, and increasingly North America, is run by and geared to the standards and demands of south Asian visitors… hence HOT, HOT rooms, lower level amenities and careless and cost-cutting housekeeping and customer service.
Still, if you’re in the hell that is Istanbul, this place is better than most.

Great rooftop bar found in Karakoy in a very nice hotel along main streets. The bar was very nice in its location and had outdoor furniture with soft cushions and ambient music playing. We were shown the drinks menu with cocktails and wines. The view was spectacular as it was getting dark so the you could see the major mosques lit up at night which gave a different perspective on the waterfront. Many boats offering late night cruises up and down the waters. Waiters were very friendly and the service good. We were given roasted cashew nuts, root vegetables crisps and olives with our cocktails, beers and spirits, nice touch. Would definitely recommend this haven in the sky to relax after a busy day.
