We had two stays, at the beginning and end of our visit to Turkey, and thought the Hotel Daphne was outstanding value. The location is perfect for sightseeing in the Sultanahmet, and the rooms are charmingly furnished, with views of the Bosphorus over the Sokullu Mosque. In summer, the roof garden is a perfect place to enjoy a meal. The...

This hotel has been absolutely FANTASTIC with us. We four friends were in a problem and were scared of our safety in the hotel we were staying in Kumkapi. Walking around, we came to this hotel, and from the moment we stepped in, all the staff had been absolutely helpful. The owner himself personally helped us and treated us well....

The Daphne has a good location near the Grand Bazaar. It was recommended by friends. The first night we were housed in an apartment/hotel across the street from the Daphne. Our unit had a kitchen, our friends unit had a roof deck...with a door they couldn't lock. They were on the top floor with no elevator. The two nights we...

My wife and I stayed for 5 nights, and found the Daphne to be a very nice botique hotel. The staff were very helpful, rooms were very clean, and the position was excellent. The street is quiet and off the main beat, but it is only about a 8 minute walk to the blue mosque and many other interesting sites....

In January 06, in the middle of a snow storm, I stayed in the Daphne and left it with memories of a special visit. I returned in June this year, again passing through Istanbul on the way to a conference. I stayed in the Daphne both going and coming. This is an excellent hotel, excellent because of the high quality...

My partner and I stayed at the Hotel Daphne for 3 nights and were very impressed by it. We had a corner room at the front of the hotel with two windows and a wonderful view of the Sea of Mamara and a lovely mosque. The room itself was very spacious and tastefully decorated and the en-suite bathroom was fabulous,...

After reading the rave reviews, maybe we were expecting too much. In its favour, the hotel was centrally located in Sultanahmet so great for the 'major' sites, and within easy reach of the trams. It was clean and the beds comfortable. On the downside, the restaurant food was pretty poor - we ate there on the first night, a lamb...

A rare gem of a hotel in the centre of all the 'must see' tourist attractions (eg 5 mins from Blue Mosque). From the complimentary tea on arrival, the free internet access and the very personal care and attention of the management and staff, this is THE place to stay in this area. The room was spotless and the roof-top...

Spent 4 glorious nights at this small hotel ( 20 rooms or so ) on the very much the quieter side of the Sultanahmet area of Istanbul....of, course, in which ever part of the Sultanahmet area you are, you can never ever get away from the Muezzins !!! Mr Cicek, the General Manager, an extremely affable & amiable man, was...

Its in a great location, must be about the best in sultanhmet as it overlooks a garden and is on a steep cobbled street. No restaurant when we were there but has an excellent place opposite. Room lovely, amazing marble bathroom, huge bed, total luxury, satellite and wi fi, all very good value. Roof terrace stunning views, staff everywhere and...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
