The hotel is situated within walking distance from the main tourist sites in sultanamet & also the tram stop. The room was a standard double room, (perfect for a solo traveler)which was clean and comfortable and cleaned every day, breakfast was very good with delicious homemade pastries.
The courtyard garden was a lovely relaxing space to eat breakfast before setting out for a days sightseeing in a very busy & fantastic city. All the staff were very polite and friendly which gave the hotel a home from home feel, and that personal touch you don’t find in a big chain style hotel.
If I return to Istanbul, which I hope i will would definitely stay here again

This is a unique, charming, beautiful hotel tucked away in a corner of historic/touristy Sultanahmet (super accessible to major attractions). Rooms are cozy, but impeccably furnished and decorated in an artful Turkish style. We stayed in a room with a private balcony, which had a spectacular view of both the Bosphorus and the ruins of an Ottoman hamam next door, which we loved. We also enjoyed delicious breakfasts in the garden/breakfast room, which is beautiful and comfortable. However, our favorite feature of this hotel was its set of cats: a sweet elderly ginger cat who was full of purrs, and a playful slice of chonk who likes to snooze in chairs. They made the hotel feel like our home for the six days we were there.

Friend of mine recommend this hotel and on top of high rate in Trip Advisor so i booked this hotel first 2 nights in Istanbul. I booked also the hotel transfer to pick up and drop off as I travelled alone. I love this place because it is in the middle of the center with walking distance, everyone is very helpful and lovely including "Sofia" and "Bobbie" two cats in the house. The room i booked for single type, it is tiny but cozy with very good view. The rate is reasonable but the only issue i had that some ants came from outside but the staff try to remove it everyday for me. You would feel like home when stay here because of the humble outdoor garden that will cheer u up in the morning for breakfast. If i go back to Islandbul, this is will still be my place. By the way, i decided to extend my stay at the hotel for 4 more nights because it made me feel like home. Thank you.

This hotel is very central locatet, near blue moschee and a street with many delishes restaurants and bars.
The hotel has a very cool rooftop where you can lay and rest or have a nice drink in the evening.
The rooms are small but cosy and in the garden you have the ability to have very good and delishes breakfast.
I enjoyed my stay a lot. It is small, but has a cosy style. Loved it there.

Boutique hotel in a very touristy area of Istanbul but had a nice homely feel with character.
Breakfast is home-style but pretty much the same every day which is fine for a stay of a few days but could be improved if they offered eggs cooked to order. Highlight is eating breakfast in the courtyard next to an old dilapidated hammam - a wonderful peaceful haven.
The room was a little expensive but to be expected for such a central location and a bit small but we had a room facing the main street with a small balcony which was lovely. Not too loud considering the location.
Rooftop provides a nice view early morning/late evenings.
Stairs are tricky but the staff are willing to help with bags. All the staff were very friendly, kind and willing to help.
Plenty of restaurants nearby but a fair amount of hassle as you walk by. Not easy to casually peruse menus.

Dear HKCrock, Thank you for your kind review. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay overall. We try to offer a good variety on our buffet breakfast. All of the dishes are homemade including the baked goods and we do offer different dishes every day. Regarding the eggs - we always have 2 types of egg dishes but during high season when we are very full it is not possible to offer eggs cooked to order. I am glad that a you liked breakfast in the garden. A word about the historic hamam which borders the garden. It is called Isak Pasha hamam and it was built in 1483 only 30 years after the occupation of Constantinople by Mehmet the conqueror...so it is quite a piece of history. We hope you will visit our fair city again one day. Wishing you happy travels/Ann

We stayed at the Empress Zoe hotel following a recommendation from a friend. We had a fantastic stay here. The hotel was beautiful ( especially the garden area) and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The homemade Walnut and Date cake should definitely be tried! The location of this place is ideal and many landmarks were just a 5 min walk away, such as Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. Grand Bazaar was a 15 min walk and trams were easily available nearby. We would recommend this hotel

Thank you! I and my friend enjoyed our stay in Istanbul for one week. They offered free breakfast, with a lot of choices. The staff were polite and friendly. The room was very clean, also daily cleaned by the staff. The room was equipped with wooden furniture, a small fridge, a central heater, several insulated windows - which made the room a cosy and quiet place to stay. The location was wonderful - walking distance to all major tourist attractions in the Old City. The area also felt very safe. But be aware of some tourist traps nearby. * There are a few restaunnts and shops - ask the price before you go in! *

A fantastic stay in a perfect location. A unique hotel in which our room was spotlessly clean, beds were very comfortable, the shower was hot and powerful, breakfast was delicious and the rooftop was an added bonus. The staff were helpful too. Would highly recommend anyone to stay here. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Prime location, walkable to all major sites through twisting alleys and roads. Many restaurants nearby. The penthouse suite was big and was very well decorated, and had very comfortable bedding. We felt like we were in an Edwardian period piece. The penthouse had access to multiple terraces and was enchanting in December; I can only imagine how beautiful it is in warm weather. The view overlooks two of the oldest structures in Istanbul in the courtyard, which was lush with plantings. The hotel as a whole is charming and decorated with stylish touches of history. Very helpful staff, even sending laundry out. Fantastic breakfasts, high quality and delicious, and with real and strong coffee. All over Turkey we had a choice between instant coffee or gritty burnt Turkish coffee, with nothing in between. This was the only place to get real coffee. Extremely attentive staff, and very nice people as well. We had a cosy take out dinner by the fireplace and it was a place to relax in between touring the city. Two resident cats helped us feel at home. It is a very well managed and good hotel. It is tempting to keep this place secret.

We were surprisingly delighted by this little, hidden oasis in a sea of hustle just at its doorstep.
We booked five nights and upon arrival, we were upgraded to a suite.
The unit itself was spacious, comfortable and had artworks the owner must’ve collected in her/his time living in this historical city. It definitely did not feel like a “standard” hotel room. Which is what we, personally, love.
The breakfast was ample, the staff was accommodating and the ambience was warm and original.
We will definitely stay here if we come back to the neighbourhood!
Thanks all.

Hello TanurS, Thank you for this very complimentary and encouraging letter. We had a slow time during this last year and a half due to the virus, but we are so happy to be hosting quite a lot of guests again this summer and fall. We are also delighted that you liked our place so much. We do have some interesting artwork, particularly in that suite. Please come back and stay with us again. I would like to talk to you about the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Happy travels until your next visit. Kind wishes, Ann Nevans, owner

Hello, I am Ann, the owner of Hotel Empress Zoe. Three of our standard doubles have balconies. The special top floor double has a terrace. If a balcony is important to you then you need to specify that need when you reserve, and we may not always be able to accommodate that request especially for weekends and short stays. The Sultanahmet tram stop is not a long walk, but I would really recommend booking our pickup service from the airport as it is not much more than a regular taxi and gets you easily from the airport to our door - otherwise you can waste time on crowded public transport and there is a change at Aksaray. If you have luggage it is just not worth it. Happy travels !
Answer from annnevans1

Yes, I have always felt very safe walking around Sultanahmet. On Novemger 1st we have elections and it is best to avoid political rallies but it is very easy to do that. Rallies are not held in Sultanahmet anyway. Pls feel free to ask us for updates anytime before your proposed April visit.

Do I need an electrical adapter to charge electronic devices coming from the US?
Answer from annnevans1
2 contributions
Yes, you might need an adaptor. We have plugs that will match your appliance but if you need a transformer we do not have that. If your appliance is compatible with 220 watts (US is 110) then it will be OK with just the adaptor plug that we can provide.
