You can walk to Galata tower through Taksim street: the touristy spots are all nearby.
During Covid times, I was not allowed to order food from outside: there was a hi tech temperature check I had to go through everytime I cane back in. All the towels and toiletries were wrapped: they even had kits for sanitizing which was different from other hotels.

I find that this hotel is a bit on the expensive side but that could just be the location. Breakfast was TL200 because i did not include it in the hotel rate. A bit on the high end but the buffet had almost all items from the clotted cream, fresh juice, hot station for omelettes... etc .
I liked the Conrad a bit better but thats in Besiktas and not in a super touristy spot.

We booked a club room with a bosphorus view. The first day we arrived we were told we were upgraded to a suite with a bosphorus view. At first we were very happy until we actually spent time in the room. The room was on the 6th floor with a city view and partial bosphorus view. Although the room was big it was outdated and noisy. The whole night we didn't sleep as the club downstairs was open till late. The constant banging of loud music was unbearable. In the morning we made a complaint to the manager and explained prior to our arrival we had sent an email requesting we get a quiet room. They insisted the room is bigger than what we have booked. We explained we are not bothered about the size but we just want to sleep at night. They moved us to the club floor on the 17th floor. The room was much better. Although the sound was slightly muted it was still not a completely quiet room. If you are sensitive to noise think again before booking at this hotel.

The hotel itself is very nice. The breakfast was well organised and cleaned well during these uncertain times. All food was hygienically served. The housekeeping cleaned the room very well and stocked up on toiletries. Everyone wore a mask.

The club option is really worth it. We visited the sky bar for snacks and drinks. The view was unbelievable from our room and the sky bar.

The hotel is very close to transport links and taksim. Good eating places nearby and tourist spots.

Overall a very good stay but some things let it down

This was my second stay at the InterContinental Istanbul and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. From the very moment I walked in the front desk team where superb and very friendly. I was quickly ushered to the club lounge where I was checked in seamlessly. It’s all done in a very Covid secure and social distancing way. And the IHG clean guarantee.

My Room/suite was ready and prepared and all the amenities and welcome letter as a Spire Ambassador where there. I was upgraded as I'm a IHG rewards club member Spire Elite which I recommend you join for free and you'll get the cheapest booking rate online. I am also a member of the IHG AMBASSADOR program.

This hotel is a very good, large and secure Building. This beautiful building has a great aspect on the hill with commanding views over the city and the Bosphorus. It has all been tastefully designed with new architectural elements the foyer of the hotel has many Turkish style features which are beautiful to look at. The rooms are very comfortable and tasteful. With good sized bathrooms and large windows overlooking the gardens and some of the cities architectural splendors are a nice touch.

Theres a lovely ambience in the lobby, the bars, brasserie restaurant, the Veranda restaurant and lounge. With stores all this vast range of dining options with particular mention to the very nice restaurant on the top floor, the Safran restaurant, here the staff are attentive without being obsequious. There seems to be an interesting range of patrons. It's a great mix of east and west and all tastes are catered for.

The room itself was beautiful. You have the heavenly bed which cannot be beat. There’s a large bathroom but it also had a huge separate spa tub which overlooked the city and Bosphorus and all the interContinental amenities. The staff are attentive and make sure that your needs are met. There's a obvious security presence and masks are worn along with plenty of hand sanitizer it feels more good than threatening making one feel safe and secure. This was a Lovely stay and I would not hesitate to stay again.

Stayed here for 5 nights in February, I was given big room with nice view looking into taqseem square where the hotel is five minutes away from. The hotel is old but kept in a very good condition in general. Location wise you are in the middle of the city and all main attractions are almost within reasonable walking distance, nevertheless I must say that you will hear some noise from the outside mainly sirens if you are in the lower floors. I must also say that I was very thankful to the hotel as they accepted the to cancel 2 days of my stay without penalty.

After many years of being loyal to the IHG Priority Club as a Spire Elite member, I have finally decided to give it up and recently moved my hotel loyalty to Marriott Bonvoy. I stayed here in Nov 2020 for a week. The Hotel was a ghost town and totally empty. Yet, they did not bother to upgrade me. My reservation was for a standard room and when I asked to be upgraded, they moved me from the same type of room two floors higher, claiming it was a Deluxe Room. The room and the view was exactly the same as the "Standard" room. It is a huge hotel with numerous suites and larger rooms but like always, the IHG hotels are extremely stingy when it comes to upgrades. They will never do it voluntarily and when asked, they will try to be cute as they were here. And do they offer lounge access or breakfast to their most loyal guests? Of course not. At no IHG hotel in the world. By contrast, Marriott provides complimentary breakfast for its Gold and Platinum members even if the rate does not include breakfast and I have always managed to get a proper upgrade to a suite. My experience here is not isolated, it has been so at every IHG property all over the world. Good bye IHG Priority Club.

The room here reminded me of Holiday Inn where I could have stayed at half the rate or even the Crowne Plaza. It was dated and generic from 20 years ago with old style bathroom and fixtures. The breakfast offered was TL 220 which is almost $50 which was more than 50% of my room rate. I declined of course. There are ample places around the neighborhood to have breakfast at a fraction of this cost.

Victoria was in charge of the Front Desk and was not too interested in doing anything special for a Spire member. So be it. Never again will I be staying here.

Finally, my dear Victoria, please do not bother to respond to this review with your generic, patronizing reply that you write to every review here. If you have nothing original to say, do not bother.

Dear ZenHealer7 Thank you for choosing InterContinental Istanbul for your November visit to Istanbul and for taking the time to share your valuable feedback with us. I do regret to read that you were not wholly satisfied with your experience, in particular your room upgrade, free breakfast and free Club InterContinental Lounge access. When staying on Standard room booking, in line with the IHG Rewards Club Terms & Conditions, the Club Lounge access or free breakfast unfortunately is not an associated privilege for any members. I do regret that you did not like the room upgrade and on a future visit please do not hesitate to let us know your preferences for your comfort. Here at the InterContinental Istanbul we do highly value our members and I do sincerely regret that you did not feel that this was the case. Your comments will be shared with the teams. I hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you again. Kind Regards, Victoria Yildirim Guest Relations and Club InterContinental Manager

The service here is on par with the price, but there are several reasons why you shouldn't stay here:

- the room is exceptionally small, and the facilities are old. I have stayed in at least 5 Intercontinentals around the globe (multiple in China, the U.S., etc.)
- Taksim is are poor place for visitors of Istanbul, it is pretty removed from life / major attractions in the city.
- All services / food are about 10 times the price anywhere else in the city. For instance , a Turkish coffee here is 7 euros (110 TL), while in the city you can easily grab one for around 20 TL. The PCR test here is 60 euros (more than 1000 TL) while right outside the hotel, you can get one for 250 TL.

I stayed in both Hilton Bosphorous and Intercontinental, and in comparison, Hilton offers double the room size, better / renovated amenities and much cheaper food / services for lesser price and the same location.

As a frequent visitor to Istanbul, I would recommend staying closer to the city if you are on budget / exploring. But if you value luxury or are on a business trip, I would recommend other hotels in the vicinity, but not this Intercontinental.

Dear Sparkleoyster First of all, I would like to thank you for choosing InterContinental Istanbul for your recent stay with us. Apart from that, I am very grateful to you for taking time to tell us about your recent accommodation period at our property. Please know that we extremely appreciate your feedback towards our hotel and services level. At our hotel, it's our goal not only to meet customer expectations, but to exceed them and it's always sad for all our team to see when we did not manage to reach this goal, as we strongly believe that our people create the experience rather than the hotel product. Your thoughts are of great importance to us and allow us to monitor and improve our service continuously evaluating our standards as well as the key to our success. My family and I stayed at the InterContinental for three nights, and overall it is a very nice hotel with modern facilities and helpful staff.

I am in the loyalty program with IHG brand, and InterContinental's specifically (Ambassador). I messaged the concierge a few days before my arrival so that everything went smoothly at check-in. We were given two very nice rooms on a high floor and the check-in desk for loyalty members worked hard to put our two rooms near each other. They also have a nice happy hour in the restaurant from 5 to 7 PM as well as a very nice breakfast buffet that was lavish and delicious for Ambassadors.

The rooms we had seemed very modern and updated. The bathrooms were large and I don’t have any complaints. The location of this hotel is very prominent and central on the European side of Istanbul. Every taxi knows where it is and it is on the main street (Istiklal), so even with traffic you get there pretty quickly.

The concierge was always helpful and solved problems when needed. I spoke with the concierge when I arrived, and he suggested a great restaurant, once I gave him the type of food we wanted.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay here, and the hotel is very luxurious for the price paid.

There are very good hotels and then there is the InterContinental Istanbul. Perfectly located near Taksim Square near all of the shops, restaurants and clubs along and around Istiklal, it has beautiful public spaces, delicious food at the restaurants, and my upgrade was spectacular, sweeping views of the city on all sides of the suite. And it needs to be said that this hotel has the best hotel pillows anywhere—firm large feather pillows—and it has windows that open just enough to let cool fresh air sweep through.

Before I arrived, I started corresponding with Burcu, who could not have been nicer and more accommodating.

But one of the two heroes of my stay at the InterContinental was John, the concierge. You see, I forgot my phone in the back of a cab and only realized it when the yellow car melded into a sea of other yellow taxis. I ran back to the hotel and by the time I got there, I was wild-eyed, panicked. It’s scary how much we depend on our phones. I started babbling and with calm assuredness, John asked if I had an iPad (I did) and if I could go up to my room and get it.

From there, John activated the Find My Phone app, ran out to a taxi in the driveway, asked the driver (Ibrahim, my other hero) to hotspot my iPad, which he did. He explained to Ibrahim what was happening and my phone popped up on the screen. For the next hour, Ibrahim drove like Jason Bourne through the windy streets of Istanbul, chasing the phone icon as it kept moving, driving at breakneck speeds, sometimes the wrong way on one way streets. Maybe we were on a sidewalk at one point.

Ibrahim was determined to find it. And a very long story short, he did. He found the cab, pulled in front of it to stop it, I jumped out and just then, the driver who took off with it was handing it to me from his window. Thinking back 24 hours later, it still seems impossible that Ibrahim actually did it. I broke in tears, he hi-fived me, proud of his accomplishment, as he should have been. Happy for me, he was genuinely happy that we found it.

When we finally got back to the hotel, there was John, solid as a rock. And he knew, too, that Ibrahim just did the impossible but at the same time, he trusted that Ibrahim would. And John, humble and kind, was as happy for me as I was appreciative of him.

I asked Ibrahim if he could take me to the airport the next morning and there he was, at 4am, this amazing man. We talked through google translator about life, the city and our families. When we got out, we both took selfies together. Of all of my travels, that one pic might be my favorite one I’ve ever taken.

This hotel is amazing, one of the best in the world in every possible way, but especially with their staff. And John. I cannot wait to come back and see him again.
