I stayed here because my friend refered me here, and it was amazing! They have delicious food, ottomon cuisine was my favorite and the guys are really nice to hang out with. I spent more time hanging out the people there than going out. Quite an experience, definately going back.

The Turkish sense of humour was apparent in our initial dealings with the guys, (which initially made us a little cautious in our first visit to Istanbul), and after some chats and exchanges we grew to find the staff really great hosts and very generous of spirit. The room was modern and suited our needs - the aircon slightly leaked...

We stayed here for 4 nights after staying at another hostel in Istanbul and we couldn't have been happier. We stopped in for dinner one night, and our host, Victor, sat with us for dinner and his graciousness and great food and great staff convinced us to switch. We were going to leave Istanbul, but because we loved this hostel...

This place beyond exceeded our expectations! The friendly and genuine staff make this place feel like home. Our double room was lovely, modern and great value. Bed was comfortable and we always slept well. You can hear the call to prayer in the morning, which is all part of the Turkish experience! You couldn't get any closer to the Aya...

The New Backpackers is a short walk to many of the main tourist attractions of historic Istanbul. The excellent public transport system is easily accessed for visits further afield. The friendly helpful staff are always on hand. Our room on the third floor was spacious, comfortable, air-conditioned and clean with a private bathroom that always had plenty of hot water.The...

The new backpackers was in a prime spot in Sultanahmet, easy walking distance to the main tourist attractions cistern basilica, hagia sofia, blue mosque and grand bazaar. Our room was quite big and air con worked well, however it was really loud at night because it was over the street, but after long tourist days we slept ok. The staff...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.

“Would suit any age travellers but given the area does get lively on an evening. We chose not to stay up late partying however had no problem sleeping as the noise from the street wasn't bad at all. Short walk to all the historical sights in Istanbul and about 10 mins walk from train station.”
