This review is different in that we haven't been guests of this hotel. However, we stopped in to ask directions for the hostel we were staying at. The gentleman at the front desk walked us outside and around the corner to our hostel. The door of the hostel was locked, so this same gentleman brought us back to hotel Yesil...

The hotel is old, elevator has some issues with the light which goes down and it's also creepy. The rooms are very dirty, dust everywhere and hair on the bathroom floor, also dirty sheet with snot on them. Clogging shower and all the water drains out. Noisy rooms, you hear everything from outside and from the other rooms/hall. Bad tv...

Run down, noisy and hot water issues. We stayed at this hotel as part of Samyeli's ANZAC tour of Gallipoli (for the record tour wasn't very good either) in April 2011. We stayed for two nights in total (at the start and then end of our trip). On both occasions we had no hot water at all. One our first...

Stayed here as part of Sammy's tours. The rooms were dirty - hair on sheets, in desperate need of a hoover.... our toilet broke on the first night and we could not move rooms... having to listen to it drip all night, despite there being many vacant rooms. The hotel insisted on keeping our passports for one night, and would...

Stayed at this hotel as park of an ANZAC day package provided by Sammy's Tours. Sammy's was generally excellent, with main sore point being this hotel. Having read that most other hotels in Istanbul were clean, this was certainly not the case for Yesilpark. Hair on the bed, dirty / dilapidated bathroom, generally grumpy / unhelpful staff. Other people on...

Staying in Fener & Balat

Neighbourhood Profile
Fener & Balat
This sleepy and rather socially conservative area of Istanbul hosts a small but thriving Jewish community, the patriarchate of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and some of the most beautiful churches and Christian art in the world. Much of what’s most interesting to witness in Fener and Balat sits between the surviving ancient city walls of Constantinople and the serene shores of the Golden Horn. Despite the many splendid sights, historic attractions, stunning vistas, and warm Turkish welcome, the area remains largely unperturbed by the tourist trade that characterizes the atmosphere in nearby Sultanahmet and around the Grand Bazaar. Travelers that like to explore off the beaten track will reap big rewards for making the effort to visit this low-key part of town.
