This is a shabby place. The rooms are not clean. In our first room a door lock was missing. So we changed to another room. Here we found bedbugs.. So we changed again and again bedbugs.. The fourth room was ok, we didn't spot any bedbugs in this one. However, we also spotted several cockroaches in common rooms. Yes it's...

Little expensive for room with common toilet, but both was nice and clean. I liked the style of hotel much. Day time very loud there, but near bus and train station. Also you can get cheap and tasty food just down of hotel.

How is this recommended as Lonely Planet's top value for money place to stay in Colombo? After reading the reviews here I'm very happy that we didn't have the chance to actually stay. My experience with YMCA Colombo consists only of some very one-sided communication: I contacted them via their website asking for information about a room and requesting to...

So - you need to stay one night in Colombo before your train leaves early in the morning, and you´re not to snobby? Dont worry, YMCA is the place for you. After reading reviews I was worried about cockroaches and such, but we did not have the discomfort of waking up with one on our chest. The place is just...

It is NOT fun to stay at the YMCA it is a complete hellhole. I've stayed in some really questionable places all across the world, travelling on a budget has that effect but this was easily the worst. It's not even that cheap. To be honest I would just avoid Colombo altogether, like the plague. It is truly horrible. I...

Though one of the cheapest places in Colombo, the Y is way overpriced at 2050 rupees, or roughly $15. And if you are unfortunate enough to stay there you better get a MOSQUITO NET!!! I know the place well after unfortunately staying there for one month while working with my NGO during Sept/Oct 2015. I'll never go back. NEVER! Better...

In the old YMCA building in Colombo you'll find a mix of history and a cool experience. The building is simple, but all right. The association still works in there, so there's a chance you'll see some sport classes, members meetings or men going to the barber shop. The cafeteria is delicious and cheap, opened to everyone. Location is good...

Very good location and very friendly staff. This is one of the places where you can still mingle with the Sri Lankan People. But the rooms are old and bare. the price is good for colombo, and they have a lot of rooms available. They have a busy cantine with local food at a very good price.

It could be good place to stay with that location and friendly stuff but the place need really good clean up. We changed room 3 times and in all rooms I've found bed bugs. Not just bites which I've got plenty. You can literally see bugs! Also huge cockroaches! Seriously I wake up because I squeeze one with my chest!...

Worst place I stayed in Sri Lanka. Had a dodgy feel to it and it wasn't very clean. But it's the cheapest place in Colombo and the location is ideal if you only need a place to crash near the train at bus station. Fine for 1 night but not to be used as a base. If you're there its...

“The building is very close to a main road and as the doors only have slats on them the noise comes in from around 6am. Try and get a room that doesn't face out to the front of the building.”

“Try to get a room on the 1st floor because they dont have lifts. If you have sleeping bags, you might prefer that to the beds. Only 1 charging point is usually available”
