We booked a double room at the Shalimar for one night upon arrival after a long flight. Main reason for the choice was the close proximity to Maradana train station for our onward journey, another the positive reviews on TA. We can agree on those mostly. The room was indeed spacious, with a separate sitting room attached to the bedroom....

We stayed here for one night before our 7am flight back home (runway works). Good location, close to the Train station, thy organised airport shuttle ($25) and the rooms were basic. Old building with bathroom that's much in need of a good clean and renovation but otherwise adequate for a quick stopover.

Nothing fancy, pretty basic but it is clean with comfortable beds. The rooms have more the enough space. A bit run down, but maybe that's my western eye looking at not so important details.... Like most other reviews already say: good budget hotel.

You can tell by the price and the stars that this is not a top-flight hotel, but we found our room acceptable, the food in the restaurant inside good and reasonably priced, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It's the kind of place to spend a night or two if you want a central location close to the station...

We've booked this hotel because it seemed close to the city centre, but that area is really bad especially for a women. The hotel is dirty and creepy (but if you like the Shining experience it's ok!) It was full of ants in the bathroom...the traffic is so loud it wont let you sleep. The only positive thing is the...

I picked this place because it was near the train station and not too expensive. I hated it. The room wasn't clean. Stains, bugs, peeling paint. The noise from the street was awful. The wifi didn't work at all. When I told the reception of these problems, they laughed at me and told me to talk to the manager. He...

Hotel has nice colonial design. We had a clean bed, clean bathroom- in general all what we needed after long plane ride. Simple and big room. Safe place where to stay. Staff is welcoming. Gave us advices about the city and also allowed to check-in pretty early. Had WiFi in the loby. Hotel is located close to Maradana train station,...

The hotel was pretty okay and the room was clean and huge. Right in the center and next to a mainroad but still quite. Friendly staff. A good stay for one or two nights. We only arrived in Colombo and travelled further with our backpacks. For that reason it was a good stay
