You can see the bones of an old gracious hotel which could do with a makeover to return it to its grandeur. Great location in the centre of Vientiane. The garden courtyard with its central fish pond is a surprising oasis in the city and a great place to have a relaxing breakfast . Fish feeding time is a must...

I was working as a volunteer - stayed in the hotel three nights a week for three months. Staff magical. Room clean and comfortable. Am going back in a few weeks and have heard from friends it is much the same.

This was another up scale room at $30. However, pristine. Comfortable bed, great food, nice people. Lots of nice nice movie channels on TV to watch, fridge with minibar and a perfect location right in city centre. I'd stay here again. Nothing to complain about. Also had a nice bath, which I find rare for asia.

In its day this would have been a great hotel with carved wood paneling and spacious rooms. the hotel is a bit old and could benefit from renovation, but its clean, safe and good value for a few nights in Vientiane. The garden courtyard with fish pond is nice and relaxing. The staff were friendly and helpful, I got a...

As others have said in dire need of renovation, tired dirty rooms, bathrooms are not very clean, staff if you actually see them are friendly enough. Breakfast server was a sweet young girl and tried to help, food pretty poor though. not a lot of choice of hotels if on a budget, OK for a couple of nights. Our stay...

As previous reviewers wrote, desperate in need os a make-over. Old stained carpet in the rooms, bathroom barely adequate and not particularly clean, TV was from the 1970's but with English language & movie channels. At breakfast the coffee was good, but the (very sweet) orange juice was always inhabited by ants. Buffet terrible with cold pre fried eggs but...

The hotel is in great location but the rooms were much dirty...needs to be cleaned!and I think the building also needs repair and improvement! Food also is not good so they must improve it! Lights and air condition must be checked because some not working!

Hotel Lao is a budget hotel which could make some easy improvements to improve. The large lobby has no décor to speak of and has indoor/outdoor carpeting with black stains on it. I imagine there could be nice marble under that carpet? There is one old shared computer in the lobby. Otherwise, WiFi is not available in the rooms. Instead...

Myself and two friends ended up getting stuck in Vientiane whilst we were waiting for our visas to come through for Vietnam, and we found it particularly difficult to find quality accommodation anywhere! We found Hotel Lao on agoda for a relatively decent price so went for it after leaving three hotels in the city due to bed bugs. The...

No complaints, here as part of a cycle tour and met our basic requirements. Old-ish appearance and furnishings, but all OK. Aircon was welcome, decent selection of TV channels, clean enough and a good bed. Had one of the inner rooms with balcony overlooking the garden - get one of these, others on exterior side of building had some traffic...
