Went for a few days as a break from hustling and bustling Bangkok. Were not disappointed, Vientiane is like Thailand, but with half the speed. The hotel were great; spacious rooms with great view of the river.
This review is so negative entirely because of the offering of shark-fin soup on their menu in their Chinese restaurant. It is very sad that such a prestigious hotel can be so absolutely oblivious to the environmental impact of their offerings.
The hotel is one of the decent options in the city. It´s a bit far away from the center, I would guess 30 minutes or so of walk. There are few taxis or tuk-tuks to flag in the street so normally you want to arrange your transport in the reception. The rooms are spacious although a bit dated. Balcony offers nice view of Mekong. Room door has some serious gaps which is probably why my room was full of mosquitoes. Breakfast was fine though coffee wasn´t that good. The hotel has an outdoor pool with some of the rooms having direct access to it. Staying so close to Mekong which provides border with Thailand has one peculiar unwelcome effect and that is unstable roaming connection. Most times there would be no connection and if I got connected for a short time, it would be sometimes Lao operator, sometimes Thai operator, so I had to pay roaming charges twice every day.…
What a lovely place! Big sprawling area, large comfortable rooms, spacious balconies, good food spread, very courteous staff- all in all an absolutely wonderful stay. Strongly recommended for business or leisure travel. Kids will love the empty spaces here.
I stayed for four nights at this well appointed hotel on the Mekong River, during which I was very well looked after by the excellent staff. I had one issue with a laundry order that I placed, where one new t-shirt of mine was lost. Although the hotel were not able to retrieve my shirt they did their very best to make amends for the error, compensating me for the loss and providing me with a free trip to the airport on departure. They were very apologetic and even went to the trouble of writing me a letter of apology. The location of the hotel is both a strong and weak point. It has beautiful views over the river, but beware the bugs! The location is also a little way out of the town.”, so I used a lot of tuk-tuks and walked a lot. It was very hot, for me (35C+/95F), so the walking was challenging. My room was clean and spacious. The breakfasts were excellent, especially the omelettes. I also tried the Chinese restaurant that they have have in-house and this was also excellent. I will return when I next visit Vientiane.…
