Hotel is exactly as advertised but the location forces you to eat at their restaurant "Blu". Just spent a night sick as a dog from their food. High priced French imitation and clearly no turnover. I thought I was just eating early as there were just two other customers...wrong!!! The locals know to avoid this place!

We stayed several days and very clean and friendly. As mentioned Internet did not always work and road in front was very muddy but I don't think they could not do anything about it. The best priced laundry service across the street ran by a very warm and friendly lady. We gave a bag of clothes and it came back... More

The bed was good. the sheets were good. The rooms were clean. But.. either there was no internet or very variable internet. At the same time the fixed telephony land line was "down". nice place. in a quiet part of the quiet city of Vientiane. the road it is on is not paved, which contributes to the rustic feeling, although it is muddy in the rainy season. rooms are well appointed, bed comfy. the place needs a bit of updating. Just on the southern outskirts of the CBD and within a 10-minute tuktuk ride from downtown Vientiane, this white-washed bungalow (and former school) is beautifully sequestered within a large expansive garden on a quiet lane just off the main road (Rue Setthathilath) leading to the airport. I stayed here for three nights on a business trip, and found it a very nice, beautiful and quiet place for a reasonable price. Big rooms, nice bed, well filled mini-bar, lovely staff. We arrived in Vientiane during a downpour, which may have affected our opinion of an adjacent hotel, which was dilapidated and decidedly unwelcoming. Nice boutique hotel nearby the Rover Mekong, and close to town centre. Not easy to locate without assistance though. Oriental decorations of the rooms help build up a cozy atmosphere. Clean and tidy. Breakfast simple but adequate. Friendly staff.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
As Vientiane changes, so does our villa. Originally built as a private residence for a French family in the 1960s, the site became a school with up to 500 children in 1992 before it was turned into a hotel at the beginning of this century. Despite the changes, our guests still can feel the privacy and comforts of home in each corner of the hotel. The four original buildings host 23 newly designed rooms and are surrounded by a green and cozy garden with seats under large shady trees. The Mandala Boutique Hotel is located in a small side road away from the busy streets of Vientiane, but within walking distance to the city center and just a 15-minute drive from the airport. ... more   less
