As I've written before, the Spring Hotel on tree-lined Lê Thành Tôn street just two blocks from City Hall has become a Saigon institution. It was one of the first boutique hotels to open its doors when, circa 1990, the party/state ditched 'socialist construction' for a trip down the capitalist road.

We've just stayed at the Spring for, by my rough count, the twelfth time in as many years. We keep coming back for its excellent breakfasts a la table (a wide choice of Asian and Western options), a pleasant, slightly over the top baroque ambiance, comfortable rooms and, above all, a warm welcome by the Spring's well-coordinated staff. Bottom line: The Spring Hotel provides the civility of a classy hotel at an affordable price.

At around AUD$40 a night I thought this was good value.
Large comfortable room on 8th floor so no traffic noise.
Stinking hot when I arrived but once the aircon was put on for a few hours became comfortable.
Helpful staff and not that far from Peoples Committee building/ Ho Chi Minh statue.

A classy small hotel for any city. Deluxe room was cozy, beautiful, clean, cool (important in Summer), & reasonably priced ($45US). While out-of-the-city for a day-&-night the rate was lowered to $35 w/o request, a nice touch. The other rooms looked nice, too, when staff had the doors open for cleaning, etc. A great little package.

The Spring Hotel is owned by an east coast U.S. Vietnamese, managed by his son locally in HCMC, according to the helpful, friendly, & lovely ladies at the reception desk, if I remember correctly. Hotel does not take Amex. VISA/MC only. Does not take/cash Traveler's Cheques. HSBC or ANZ banks were best for that, though fees are a bit steep. VN banks are suspicious of TC's.

Good city center location. Noise was not a bother on the 6th floor (from the incessant but funny & almost musical horn-honking of motorbikes & cars (typical of VN)). A nice b'fast & bar in a lovely setting & 2 free internet computers. The computers were moderate-to-high-speed and usually available for email checking, etc. Hotel is a definite recommend. The staff does call & ask guests to leave at 10.00pm. For hotels of this size & price, it must be among the best anywhere.

There is a great little VN restaurant across the street about a block to the left out of the front door. Discovered it on the last day. Very pretty cafe style. Wish it had been noticed sooner.

Upon checkout i was asked to pay 8usd for a towel. The towel was so old and dried out it actually ripped apart when drying my back. Just simple as that. Very unexpected to have this reaction upon checkout. So after many visits before we will never come back again.

Have stayed here many times now and always found the place very comfortable and clean. Located right in the middle of town but surpisingly quiet - the staff are always so welcoming and kind always smiling - bring you complimentary cups of tea - internet available most of the time - good value for money - can easily book by email - would recommend it

Lovely small place with great staff. Had a deluxe room, which was really big and great value for money. Also location of hotel, means it is less noisy (although you can't get away from the traffic noise in HCM) than other hotels.

The Spring Hotel is totally underrated as a two star hotel. It deserves a four star rating for the staff's attentive and friendly service if nothing else.

The rooms are comfortable and more than adequate for a stay in Saigon. They are immaculately clean and well kept, as is the rest the hotel. The entrance and lobby are something that you'd expect in a luxury hotel, with marble floors, decorative columns, and pleasant lighting. The complimentary breakfast is also one of the best I've ever had in my travels throughout Vietnam. You have a choice of several Western and Asian breakfast entrees served with French bread, as well as fresh cut fruit and a beverage.

However, what really sets the Spring Hotel apart is is the warm and engaging hospitality and attentiveness of its employees. For example, when disembarking from my taxi at 11 p.m., I was met by a porter who hurried to the car to help carry my bags. The desk clerk asked if I was hungry after my long trip and recommended some restaurants down the road. He also asked if I would like to have a massage to help ease my tight muscles after a long trip. I also never had to ask for my room key. They knew who I was when I entered the door and handed my key to me personally with a warm smile and a greeting each time. My entire visit mirrored experiences such as these. You will find no better value in Saigon: A 4 star hotel experience at a 2 star hotel price.

This hotel has earned the coveted TripAdvisor's Readers Choice designation for good reason. My January, 2007, stay confirmed it's excellent value @ US$32.20 single per night all taxes in.The hotel books up fast so advance reservations may be required to secure a room. It is a mini-hotel in the Vietnamese style with narrow street front and the number of floors exceeding the number of rooms per floor.
Room access to and from the lobby is by mini-elevator or by the unusually beautiful stairway. All floors have a central hallway running from front to back with a fire escape at the rear and, at the front, a lovely balcony overlooking the street. Room access is by key (not electronic swipe card) though the doors have both peep holes and security bars permitting you to open the door without granting access to the room. Travellers should note that it is easy to mistakenly leave your door unlocked so care must be taken to set the lock when leaving your room, when asleep, or when you wish to be secure.
Rooms feature 10 foot ceilings and on-off setting for air-conditioning operated by portable remote and adjustable from 18C to 24C (65F to 75F). Windows may be opened if fresh (?) outside air is desired. The shower has no exterior window but a good exhaust fan.
Like the rest of the hotel, rooms are beautifully appointed with pot lights, very upscale ceiling light fixtures, and lots of lamps. Bathrooms are especially well lit. My room had a desk, chair, modern TV with remote control featuring some 24 channels (though the reception on my set was particularly snowy), desk with 2 chairs, end tables, bedside reading lamps, and in-room mini-fridge stocked with water, soft drinks, and beer. The room was carpeted and my bathroom, fully tiled from floor to the 9 foot level of the 10 foot ceiling. The bathroom was so clean it literally sparkled. Amenities included white terry cloth bath linens, 2 terry wash cloths, 2 hand towels, 2 bath towels and terry floor mat, mini-soap, 2 shampoos, 2 tooth brushes, 2 toothpaste, fixed high on the wall shower head, tub-shower with plastic shower curtain, and lots of hot water. Ceilings are trimmed throughout with elaborate crown mouldings, and my room had two Greco-Roman pillars on the outside wall corners. The Queen sized bed was firm and comfortable and the pillows the standard thinner Vietnamese style. Closet space was hopelessly inadequate and my build-in wall unit had no hangar bar. Saigon streets stay active 24 hours and while traffic noise in my room at the rear of the hotel was barely audible, light sleepers might wish to bring ear plugs if staying in a room at the front of the hotel facing the street. Views out the room windows on both the front and the back of the hotel are not breathtaking but certainly airy and of some interest with the spires of Notre Dame Cathedral clearly visible out the rear for orientation.
The lobby is bright and fresh with a waiting lounge area and two complimentary internet computer terminals available. Internet speed was fast for Vietnam.
The front desk staff is excellent, cheery and helpful and offered a good area map free on request. Check-in and check-out was fast (under five minutes), efficient, and friendly.
Breakfast is included but is not buffet style. While service at breakfast was again fast and cheery, selection on the fixed menu was spartan. You are permitted to choose one item from each of three categories, a main course of asian dish, fruit plate, or eggs of limited variety (sunny side up, scrambled, or assorted omelette - tomato, cheese, onion, etc.), a limited selection of beverages (coffe, tea, milk, orange juice), and one choice of dessert (fruit plate consisting of two slices of apple, mango and pineapple). They do provide in addition, a mini-loaf of white crusty bread with slab of butter and dash of pineapple jam.
The hotel faces Le Thanh Ton Street, in a great location within about 1 km (half a mile) more or less from most of the major central tourism sites (in the middle of a triangle formed by the Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral and the Saigon River) and steps from the beautiful (especially at night) Avenue Nguyen Hue with its Rex Hotel, Hotel de Ville, and fountain strewn central boulevard. Also within easy walking distance are many eateries, high and mid-range retail boutiques, and the tourism sites of, the post office (opposite the cathedral), Ben Thanh Market (straight down Le Thanh Ton), Revolutionary Museum, and Art Gallery. For those looking to book package tours, airline tickets, or other tourism services, the government run SaigonTourist Travel Service (travel agency) with its excellent and knowledgeable staff of English speaking travel agents is only a block away.
A great three star hotel value for central Saigon.

This was a very standard low budget hotel. My friend and I stayed for 2 nights in May 2006, and there was nothing there that made it stood out or made us believe that it was really a "gem" of a hotel.

The rooms were tiny and dark and worst of all, since we were on the 1st floor (the floor right above the lobby) we didn't have a window. Actually, we did have a window, but when I went to open up the dingy looking curtains to see what was outside, it turned out it wasn't a real window at all, but a fake one, and instead of glass looking to the outside, it was just stuffed with styrofoam!

We tried to switch rooms to an upper floor, but since it was past 9pm, there was no one at the front desk who had access to reservations who could help us. So we stayed the night in our original room, and we didn't even bother trying to change rooms the next night because it seemed like it would be too much of an effort and really, at least the bathroom was clean - albeit dingy.

The only 2 redeeming features of this hotel is that the breakfast was actually pretty good and it was really cheap - we paid $25USD/night. If you don't mind roughing it a little and want to save on some cash, stay here. If you have $15USD extra to spend per night for a hotel, stay somewhere else as there were plenty of nicer hotels in the area.

We had a midnight arrival. I set up airport transport thru Viator. It was very reasonable and on time. I don't know about twin beds they do have two double beds in many rooms. Very friendly and helpful staff.

In the past this would not have been allowed even during the day as always someone opening the door for you but as suggested things may have changed for a small charge.
