Good location. Excellent breakfast, but less choice on fruit. We wanted to have dinner on the roof top restaurant but was occupied by a noisy birthday party who made lots of noise and cheers. Could not stay. Staff was not friendly to accomodate our party. The restaurant closes at 10 pm, not good for a hotel that accommodates tourists.
Rooms are clean and cleaned daily.
Noise from the street may disturb some but was ok.

A very good and cost effective hotel in the heart of district 1 close to great restaurants and vibrant nightlife. From reception to housekeeping a great experience. I have stayed in more expensive 5* hotels here previously that were far less impressive. When in Saigon, Hotel Saigon Dong Du is for me-lance

We stayed here for 2 night. Love the hotel. It's nice and clean with nice breakfast and excellent location, plenty of places to eat around the hotel. Walking distant to Ben Thanh and 'Western street' area I would stay here again on our next trip

The hotel does not permit any dirty towel. Me being a tourist in Vietnam, after staying at Sheraton, New York, Holiday Inn, Bangkok, Holiday Inn International, Sharjah, JW Marriot, Kolkata, they have bever harassed us for dirty face towel. People wash their face and the towel gets wet and dirty a bit but according to them they do not want any stain on them. They were charging us 50,000VND for the towel. I would like to inform you guys that this is a government hotel as informed from the hotel's general manager and to stay in the same place near the Opera house, you can stay in Sheraton Hotels & Towers just opposite to this hotel. The difference of cost is 12USD. Really had a sad experience with the hotel but the staffs were nice and cooperative.

We stayed 2 days and it was anything but pleasant.
Except the location there is nothing great about the place.
The rooms are noisy.
Bed was creaky.
Balcony is there but one can't even stand there due to unpleasant surroundings.
Breakfast has limited choice.

One of the cheaper, city centre hotels and situated right in the centre of Saigon. The reception is small, but the staff are all very friendly and helpful. Quite modern so everything looks and is fresh.
Rooms are very large, the bed was lovely and the Egyption cotton sheets were crisp and smooth. Air con was literally ice cold, if you wanted it that cold. No real views as in the city centre. Room came with breakfast - again nice selection and all tasted good.
Why stay at this hotel?
Its clean, modern and excellent location. You can walk to all the city centre locations and attractions from here (Opera is next door), loads of restaurants and walking distance to the river. Its relatively cheap, but that means it has no gym and swimming pool. No great loss for a weekend or week's stay.
Saigon is also a great place for visiting local sites - the zoo, Vietcong tunnels, or as a start for going up country for a beach holiday. There are loads of bars and clubs to go to.
Would I stay here again - yes, going again tomorrow, albeit on business.
Tips
Hotel is only 20 minutes from the airport at 7.00am. But if you go to the airport at 4pm, give yourself at least 2 hours as the traffic can be really bad (90% of the time you will get there in 30 mins, butthe other 10% will take you 2 hours).
The locals still call it Saigon
Crossing the road. All the motorbikes make crossing the road look dangerous, but its not. Look for a gap in the bikes and then simply walk gently without stopping across the road. All the bikes will avoid you. Trust me! But... do not stop or hesitate when crossing, then the bikers do not know where you are going and may run into you. Key is to walk gently without hesitation. Same thing - don't run as they won't be able to guess where you will be.
Just ignore (don't even answer them) the men on all the street corners saying "you want young girl? you want massage?" Its just Asia.

Pros-great location right across the street from the Sheraton Saigon, close to many shops and restaurants.
Good size rooms. The beds are not too bad. Free wireless internet. Inexpensive.

Cons-NOISE. We have 2 rooms on the 6th floor. The noise from outside is so loud and clear it seems like the windows are open, but they aren't. You can hear every bit of noise from the street all night long. The whistling, laughter, old woman yelling at somebody, evening and morning prayers from the mosque across the street, motorbikes, and cars honking their horns. Tonight at 10:30pm, they began jackhammering on the property next door. This our third and last night here. I have ear plugs. The walls are paper thin. You can hear the couple in the next room if you know what I mean.

The buffet breakfast.served on the 9th floor. They serve a large variety of food but most looks like garbage. We've decide it is 3 day old leftovers from the restaurant in the lobby. We eat most anything but there the food seems like real garbage!

Two small elevators. One has not worked since we arrived. The other works sometimes.

We travel a lot, cities and small towns. In the past year alone, we've stayed in the heart of Bangkok, Osaka, Hong Kong, Beijing, and Manila. This is the noisiest place we have ever stayed. Even with earplugs it was difficult to sleep.

Friendly staff and a glorious scent of cinnamon greet you when you walk in, and the service and amenities stay above average from then on in. Across the road from the much more expensive Sheraton, but also facing a large Mosque - the calls are muted, so don't worry about being woken! As others have mentioned there are two convenience stores within a few metres of the hotel too, and if you know Vietnam you know you can get everything from Italian beer to danish biscuits to Vietnamese lollies to acne wipes and dandruff shampoo in a convenience store for a pittance!

We stayed here twice, with three children in a neighbouring triple room. The beds are comfortable, all rooms seem to have large baths and they are spacious and well presented rooms.

You really get everything in this street - very typical Vietnamese scenes (eating on little stools, scooter parking, taxis lined up, big flame trees, tailors, jewellers, 'family shops') and western convenience. We felt very safe.

Breakfast was included in our deal and suited all five of our very different tastes, consistently good every day. If you need a bigger coffee or tea hit, one of the trendy Trung Nguyen coffee shops is right on the corner.

Highly recommended. We plan to come back.

Arrived at 5am after a delayed flight of 14 hours. More interested in disputing the cost of our stay than allowing us to sleep a few hours before checkout. Claimed we had to pay extra because they didn't realise there was a second person, despite the fact we had requested a Queen bed for 2. The money was the least of our concerns but the lack of consideration for our obvious exhaustion was incredibly tactless. Never again

will like to book to 2 room for my family of 5. will there be inter-connecting room that face the mosque?
Melbourne, Australia103 contributions40 helpful votes
HI Sweetliya Im not sure this hotel has interconnecting rooms. Only a deluxe or higher room category will fit more than 2 people. And im afraid i dont know about being able to see the Mosque from your room. (i stayed in a standard room; looked into side street off Dong Khoi Street). i would suggest emailing the hotel directly - that way you will have in writing what they can provide for you. Good luck and i hope you love Viet Nam as much as i do. Tania

Is there a pool at this Hotel ? Can we purchase tickets for the train from HCS to Hanoi?
Answer from Robert R

no pool, if you want a pool you need to stay at the Sheraton or Carravelle - but that will be 3 times the cost of Saigon. i have not done much train travel in Vietnam but i am sure you can purchase tickets - the hotels should be able to help you. Maybe check how long the trip is as well.
