Caravelle Saigon has gained renown for being at the heart of everything important in this great city since its opening on Christmas Eve 1959. Located in the very heart of the city center, the luxry hotel is a short walk to iconic landmarks and locations, such as the Opera House, Notre Dame Cathedral, historic Dong Khoi Street, Nguyen Hue walking street and the legendary Ben Thanh Market. Modern shopping is just around the corner at Vincom Center and at the nearby Saigon Center. While much of what lies at the heart of Caravelle Saigon is historic, its rooms are modern and luxurious, making it the ideal place to make your own history in one of the most enchanting cities in the world

Nestled in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, Caravelle Saigon garners praise for its stellar location in District 1, with guests appreciating its proximity to key attractions. The hotel's commitment to cleanliness and high-quality service is widely acknowledged, though some service inconsistencies are noted. While the elegant ambiance and sophisticated rooms with luxurious amenities are well-received, a few guests have remarked on room size and unwanted odors. The atmosphere, vibrant with live music, can occasionally be too lively for some. Opinions on value and amenities like the rooftop bar vary, with critiques focusing on price and certain lacking features.

Fabulous historic hotel in wonderful location . The outside pool is beautiful and the pool bar has happy hour in the afternoon! The showers are a bit difficult to find hidden in the greenery!
The rooftop bar “Saigon Saigon” has wonderful views especially at night.
The room was large and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast buffet good with lots of choice.

We only had one night at the Caravelle on way home for a 14 night stay in Vietnam. We have stayed here previously but not since the refurbishment.
We have always loved the Caravelle but with the refurbishment comes a very Luxe feel, we felt truly spoilt. The rooms are gorgeous and we loved that they had glass refillable bottles and used sustainable products in the bathrooms.
The service all throughout the hotel was excellent, we had Signature privileges which allowed us access to the Signature Lounge and a late check out 4pm. Once checked out we were able to use the Signature Lounge for the next hour before catching our transport to the airport. My only complaint was that we only stayed one night 🙁
We will stay here again when next we return to Saigon.

We stayed at the Caravelle for a week and honestly, the staff there - Especially Kim in the lounge and the doormen downstairs - made it a wonderful stay.

Pros:
We stayed in a suite which was spacious and clean. The bed was firm, comfortable and an actual king bed not two singles trussed together. You can use the hotel app to order many types of pillows or anything else you need from housekeeping.

The location is very central and it's easy to get around HCMC. Everyone on the staff are really helpful and Kim helped us with making bookings and finding places to try.

The club access was really nice for a quiet breakfast or canapes in the evening. You can order eggs, Pho or Bahn Mi from the chef as well. Breakfast downstairs has a lot more options so it's worth checking out both. The evening canapes that come with the club access were average but we were out most days so it didn’t really bother us.

Cons:
There is ONE hook for a single towel in the bathroom. There's no hooks anywhere else in the room to hang a second towel, bags, hats, clothes etc. Which was a bit annoying.

There is also only one place for your luggage. I had to keep mine on the floor. For a suite, it seemed odd to not have basics like that.

Tips:
Room service was good quality but super expensive, you can use the Grab app to order food to your room if you want something different.

Ask reception to unlock the door so you can have fresh air and you can see the view, listen to the city.

Breakfast is till 10am (not 10:30 per the room information)

Laundry is crazy expensive with the hotel but we went around the corner to the tailors and they did 4kg for around 500,000 VND

I decided to spend my first night in Saigon at the Caravelle Hotel as it has a very central location and it is the most renowned and well established 5-star hotel in the city, I presumed that they would understand and be able to cater for the needs of the disabled guest.
From the outset, I realised that the Caravelle is most interested in making money. They took the payment as soon as the booking was made, with no option to cancel without losing the payment. They followed this up with an email asking if I wanted to upgrade my stay by paying an additional $23 to include breakfast, although when I checked in I was told that breakfast was included anyway. The Caravelle seem to think that it is a privilege for you to stay in their glamourous hotel rather than thinking it is a privilege for them to have you as a guest!
As you enter the salubrious foyer with live piano music playing in the background, you feel like you’re staying somewhere special.
It wasn’t possible to book an accessible room online; you are just instructed to inform reception when you check-in. I was led to my room by the concierge, but when I entered the spacious, well-equipped room I was dismayed to find that the bathroom was completely inaccessible. There was a large step to the left to get into the toilet and it was the same to the right to get into the shower! They hadn’t thought this through at all! The concierge realised the problem immediately and was very apologetic, despite the spectacular view of the city and the helpful staff I was glad I was only staying the one night!

Dear Sid989, Warm greetings from Caravelle Saigon! Thank you for your feedback following your recent stay with us. I would like to extend my sincere apologies for the unexpected issues you encountered and certainly understand how this situation could be frustrating. Regarding your booking, we sell both room only and breakfast inclusive rates online and the rate reflects this accordingly. I can understand how sometimes different rate packages can seem confusing and I do apologise that our reception team was not able to explain the issue to your satisfaction. We do in fact have an accessible room, but unfortunately it had already been occupied. With additional requests, next time may I suggest you notifying us in advance for further arrangements as we always strive to accommodate our guest’s requests especially those reserved in advance. I wish you continued safe travels and look forward to welcoming you back soon. From the Heart of Saigon, Michael Robinson General Manager

We stayed in the Signature Room which entitled us to use the Club Lounge for breakfast, pre dinner drinks and canapes and you can go there outside the 2 times just to relax and have a drink, lots of people have meetings there too. It is a welcome oasis away from the intense oppressive midday heat especially. The staff there are good but some are still learning, the food is good in general , there is a noodle station doing on demand pho , fruits are tasty but not the Japanese food. We initially assigned top floor room but there was a huge humming noise from the engine on the rooftop that caused the wall to "vibrate", we were then moved down one floor and got upgraded to Signature Premium Room, the room is very comfortable but there is no bathtub, we had room service and delivered very quick late at night. The laundry service is good and good value. There was a little bit of accounting error during checkin which then led to asking us to pay a lot more for the extra credit card deposit hold in the middle of the stay and it was caused by a Junior staff but the Senior staff explained to us clearly in the end and apologised. Location is perfect, next to The Continental, the Opera, 10 minutes walk to the River and we even walked back from Dinner at Prem Bistro (highly recommended even you are not a vegetarian). Felt very safe in the area, Grand Hyatt is next door, Mandarin Oriental is being built. We didn't use the hotel airport transfer, it is just outrageously expensive, we booked car service via Agoda to and from the airport. Didn't use the pool because it was just too hot and at night we preferred to go out for a walk. Will stay again.

Our family has been staying at The Caravelle for the past 10 years. We were looking forward to returning after a 2 year hiatus due to Covid restricting our travel.
However, we were disappointed with our September visit.
We always stay in the historical section of the hotel and the refurbishment is lovely.
However, unfortunately, we felt the attitude of the hotel has shifted and we felt our 8 year old daughter was unwelcome.
This started before our stay by being told that she could no longer enter the executive lounge, which the room type we booked had access to.
This was then reiterated twice at check in.
We’d also been told an additional bed would be needed. Which is fine and to be expected.
But when we arrived, very late at night, the additional bed was not set up.
And when it was set up, it was not set up with a sheet, just a duvet and pillow so our daughter ended up having to sleep in our bed.
There was no alternative to our daughter not being allowed in the executive lounge. Which meant we were not able to use the executive lounge check in or attend drinks there as an 8 year old cannot be left alone.
It felt that this could have been thought through better. That check in could have taken place in our suite along with a welcome drink (which we would have received in the executive lounge). Canapés and drinks could have been offered in our suite during our stay as we were unable to enjoy the lounge due to having a child.
It felt that we were being punished as parents.
The restaurant where breakfast was served seemed overwhelmed. We arrived one morning to be seated at a table just vacated. It needed clearing. We went to get our breakfast from the buffet and when we returned the table had not been cleared at all. There were no other tables available. No one wants to go to breakfast and stand holding their food over a dirty table while trying to attract attention for cleaning.
We feel saddened that a hotel where we spent special birthdays and anniversaries no longer feels welcoming to us a family and that we need to find somewhere else to stay when we visit Ho Chi Minh City in future.

We tried a staycation promotion and made our weekend memorable.

The newly renovated rooms did not disappoint and offered us all an extremely blissful and restful stay, with connecting rooms

We particularly liked the design of the bathrooms as it was spacious and also were designed to have separate cubicles for the shower and toilet. The sliding bathroom panels added to the luxurious feel of the delux room.

The new air conditioning system made all the difference for a great ambient environment, so much so we only left the rooms for meals.

Bearing in mind, this is still in the midst of the covid pandemic, the aftershocks and effects of the recent almost 5 month lockdown; u can feel all staff at Caravelle are trying their upmost best to resume business as usual whilst, meandering through the web of procedures and processes of the new normal….

The hotel couldn't be better placed, District 1 overlooking the Opera House and close to many tourist attractions. We booked a Signature Club room which I would highly recommend; pre-dinner drinks and canapes in the evening and all day soft drinks. The staff cannot do enough for you and are extremely courteous and gracious; a special mention goes to Mai in the club room who was delightful and attentive. The hotel has recently undergone renovations which has resulted in a comfortable elegance. I didn't book any tours in advance, instead I used the concierge to advise me. Mr Tung was so helpful in arranging a food tour, opera tickets and an amazing cooking school literally round the corner. The hotel offers a Thursday morning run with the General Manager, which my husband enjoyed, as well as Pho Friday where Mr Tung took us to a traditional Pho restaurant for breakfast. He was great company and delighted in showing us how to eat Pho like a local. We will definitely return to this hotel as we enjoyed our stay immensely.

We enjoyed staying here on the tail end of our trip to Vietnam. The reception was welcoming and we upgraded to an executive room to take advantage of later checkout. The room and view of the Opera House was superb. We were able to get around on foot because many of the things we wanted to see were in walking distance. We would definitely stay here again.
