We spent 3 nights at the Rex Hotel having been recommended it by a travel agent. Unfortunately, this hotel was sub-par and the worst of our two week stay in Vietnam.
Whilst we were initially attracted to it due to the history behind it, we were disappointed with essentially everything else. It was an outdated and uninterestingly large hotel with little aesthetic appeal on the inside. The staff were quite uninviting and unhelpful, to the point where I didn’t even want to ask for help because they responded with little to no emotion or with hostility.
We visited during off-season, so the hotel was relatively quiet. Our room was off in a corner on the first floor, with one small window that was almost entirely covered with dark curtains. We didn’t have a problem with the limited sunlight in our room until we walked past all the other rooms on our floor that were being cleaned and saw that they boasted full-wall windows whilst being the same size as ours. Ours had more of a basement feel to it. Considering the quietness of the hotel, you’d expect to be placed in one of the nicer rooms for the pleasure of the few guests you have, but unfortunately this wasn’t the case.
I also cannot stress enough how uncomfortable the bed and pillows are, even after ordering pillows off the pillow menu (I’m almost certain that they are the exact same pillows we already had despite being advertised as others). My back and neck are killing me after 3 nights!

On a more positive note, the location of the hotel couldn’t be better, and the pool and gym facilities were spacious and relatively clean. The pigeons that surrounded the pool were a little bit off putting. In regards to the location, there are ample 5 star hotels in the same area, so we will be staying at one of those next time.

This is my 2nd time (1st time in Feb 2017) staying at this hotel for my business trip. Booked the Premier room for 2 weeks. Got one free airport pickup. Nice spacious 32 sq ft. room with wooden flooring, huge toilet, shower area with rain shower and bathtub. No bidet in toilet. No laundry line in toilet. Bedroom slippers and bathrobe provided.

Convenient for food choices as it is located very central of district 1. Hotel staff very helpful in arranging taxi for my commute 1.5 hours away. Hotel breakfast on 5th floor has fresh pho, egg station, fresh fruits, salad, buns and etc, quite a decent breakfast spread. Love the daily fresh fruits provided in the room. I also love the switch panel where I can turn all lights off using the Master control. Just note there is no plug nearby the working desk for charging laptop and no plug beside the bed for charging phone, so I charge it where the hot water boiler is.

The hotel is wheelchair friendly but it may not be too convenient because it has random steps around, although a ramp is available. There are also various pillow choices available. Quiet time in hotel is 11pm to 8am, but rooms are generally quite sound-proof which is really a plus point.

Arrived from uk on 1st Feb, had a lovely room on the 3rd floor facing Time Square. The only minor picky comment would be that the cleaner failed to refresh the glasses in the room that we had used the previous night.
The breakfast was amazing so much to chose from you will not be disappointed.
We then went on a tour, we stayed in a number of 4 star establishments all excellent and returned to the Rex a week later.
We were shown to room 403, it was like a prison cell very small and window looked out onto passage so could not have curtains open as anyone who walked past looked straight in, so you can imagine how dark this was.
I complained to the receptionist who told me that the that the hotel was full and we couldn’t be moved, I was offered to upgrade at a cost of £250 per night, I politely declined.
I then went back for a shower only to be disturbed by consistent ringing of the doorbell, check out the lady said, oh sorry wrong room.
I was very tired after the tour and thought I’d take the opportunity to have a little lie in,,unfortunately I forgot to put the do not disturb sign on door before I went to bed, at 8.05 the doorbell went “I make up room”
Yes it is a 5 star hotel but not all rooms are. as you can see from these pictures it’s a low 4 star at best
The following morning the phone went at 6.43, “we check water” said the voice, of course I said they could but pointed out I had been woken up.
I for one will be glad to move onto another hotel today
Such a shame as this put a real damper on my time in Saigon, I will definitely not be returning to the Rex I am sure you can get better value and comfort elsewhere l.
Below are a few photos of things I really didn’t expect in a 5 star establishment, flaky paint on the ceiling, mould in the bathroom, I hope that the management rectify these before the next guests

Me and my partner stayed at the REX hotel for three nights in order to clebrate New Year's Eve. We booked tickets well in advance for the New Year's banquet on the roof top by contacting the FB department at the hotel. Quite expensive but what a night we had! About 40 dishes to chose from (buffet and carving stations) plus grilled lobster . Great entertainment and fire works that went on forever! We stayed in a mini suite that was enourmous and the service was great. I can truly recommend REX hotel hotel since it is also a great base for sight seeing.

We spent a lovely week at the Rex. It is probably our 5th stay and we were in a Governor Suite which was very swish. Two large rooms and a huge bathroom which had a separate shower and bath. The shower was excellent with good pressure and their shampoo and soaps were good quality. The beds were very comfortable and they had a pillow menu. They did a turn down/ freshen up every evening. The staff were very courteous and helpful. The gym is excellent with lots of cross trainers, Treadmills, bikes and machines. The pool was excellent although it was pretty crowded most days, so we went upstairs to another rooftop pool which was more peaceful. Probably the best buffet breakfast we've had in Saigon. The pho is great too. The rooftop bar is good for a look over the town. Prices very close to Western but food quality good and lots of alcoholic and other beverages ! As the Rex is in District 1, it is close to lots of shops and restaurants. They did a late checkout which we both appreciated.

The Rex without a doubt is iconic and a really nice hotel, our room was really quiet and the bed super comfy.
Breakfast was buffet style with a good selection, but if you were there anytime after 9.30am they did not replenish the dishes.
Drinks in the bar were 5 star prices, as would be expected, so get out on the town for a fraction of the price!!
The pool is small and only a few sunbeds for such a large hotel.
My only complaint is the NYE Roof Top Gala. This was a complete let down and absolutely extortionate.
Drinks were topped up from jugs by the waiters (who were very attentive) but the beer was warm and the wine like acid.
Saying this is a must do place to see the fireworks is rubbish, as there are now so many other buildings blocking the view.
Would I return to the Rex - No

Recently, my wife and I, on a 30 day trip through SE Asia, had the pleasure of staying at the Rex Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).

We picked this hotel for its location and history. The Rex was where the US government briefed the press every day during the Vietnam war.

The Rex is located walking distance of many of the most desirable sites, including City Hall, Notre Dame Cathedral, Central Post Office, Museum of Revolution, Opera House and the Ben Thanh Market.

And, we would highly recommend that you walk along Nguyen Hue (directly out the front door) to the river. At night, this street fills with throngs of locals, enjoying the cooler temperatures and the company of friends/family. This boulevard appears to be where many young people gather to “date”, lounging on the back of their motorbikes. We think of it as HCMC’s equivalent of the “drive-in” movies of our youth!

In addition, the Rex has a great roof-top bar, with expansive views of the city.

Important Tip. Make sure that your room has a window and city view before booking. Their website’s room photos can be somewhat misleading.

After our great experience, we would welcome another stay at the Rex!

The hotel was in a great location. Our room was overlooking the statue of Ho Chi Minh, and as we were there for his birthday, we got to witness a lot of ceremonies.

The hotel’s history is amazing, and this is showcased in a lot of the decor and pictures. Apart from everything, I’m glad to have stayed in a piece of history.

We found the hotel quite confusing in that the cost of our room didn’t reflect the feel of the hotel. The cost was similar to a 3-star hotel in Australia, but was above high-end clothing stores and hosted officials and the Greek ambassador while we were there.

We found that how we were treated compared to the wealthier guests was vastly different. The housekeeping and wait-staff were lovely, but the staff in the hotel foyer basically ignored us. At one point we stood at the front desk (we were the only guests In the lobby) waiting to be acknowledged by no less than 5 staff members, while they completely ignored us. I had to say “can someone please assist us”to receive help, and even then, we were obviously inconveniencing them.

On observation of how the apparently wealthier guests were treated, made us think that had we been wearing our designer clothes, rather than our casual clothes, would have made all the difference. Based on the foyer staff alone, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, and we certainly I’ll not stay here again.

I just left the Rex a couple of days ago, at the end of my fifth or sixth stay. It seems to be getting better and better. I previously reviewed it as old and jaded and, sure, it’s got some history and a few wrinkles, but the staff really have picked up their game. They moved me to a new room as soon as I asked, which turned out to be a free upgrade. For the price one pays I can’t fault the location, the staff, the value and the feel. On the last point, it has gone beyond being old and tired almost to the point of being charming. I love it. Central. Interesting. Historical. Different. It’s not the fossil it once was ... it’s starting to grow teeth.

Its a hotel with a great history, and they have tried to maintain this through out the hotel. In places it works, in others - it doesn't.
Checking in was quick and painless, however it was the first hotel of many that asked to see a copy of our Visas - no other hotel had asked us prior to this. However, this isn't an issue.
The room was large, with a large kingsize bed, tv, mini bar and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was large, and provided a separate bath and shower. Both areas were spotless.
There is a lot of dark wood furniture in the room that really makes the room dull, and to be honest, looks outdated. The rooms could be better decorated, and more modern yet still be true to the building style.
The breakfast selection was plentiful, the quality was average. The dining room is a too formal layout, and reminded me of a school environment. Tables and chairs all in line, it just felt too formal for breakfast or any other meal.
Drinks are very expensive at the hotel bar, and it was empty which is no surprise. People staying at the hotel should be given a good discount to entice people to stay and have a beer or cocktail. Compared to other hotels stayed in Vietnam, and in cities, this was far the most expensive for a drink - it did not make sense having staff serving no one. But it wasn't surprising.
The outdoor pool was nice and the depth of the pool was deep. Plenty of sun loungers and chairs made it easy to find space. But this was low season. However, the area around the pool looks scruffy and you are constantly bombarded with pigeons who drink and excrete in the pool. Not really hygienic.

Hi and thanks for the question, the answer of which I'm not too sure about .. I didn't specifically look out for Indian food , but they have a very vast selection of everything , be daring and adventurous you might like what you see and eat .. alternatively you can always contact the venue direct and ask the question. But what we had was very very nice.. I don't think you will be disappointed Have fun
