Hotel Grand Saigon's prime location garners high marks from many guests for its convenience to local attractions, shopping, and dining. The hotel's cleanliness stands out, with visitors often remarking on the well-maintained rooms and pristine bathrooms. However, there's a consensus that the hotel's value proposition falls short, with criticisms of overpriced services and dated accommodations.
While the rooftop bar and breakfast diversity are highlights, the overall atmosphere suffers due to the outdated decor and noise issues. Service quality receives mixed reviews, fluctuating between commendable and occasionally inconsistent. Rooms are noted to be spacious yet in need of modernization, with comfort and noise isolation being areas of concern.

Detailed Reviews
The hotel is located in District 1 which is perfect to explore the city. It has old school colonial glamour, is very clean, has a fantastic buffet that offers a huge range of food choices and has an outside pool area that is lovely to relax in. There are lots of restaurants and cafes nearby. We asked for a quiet room so we did not hear the road noise (mainly to avoid hearing the beeping) and we were put on the 11th floor in a lovely room overlooking the river. The only noise we heard was the cleaner as we were opposite the cleaner's pantry. We would stay there again.

I deliberately choose to stay in boutique style hotels with history. I have stayed in 2 such hotels on the same road, but, by far, the Grand impressed me the most with its ambience, service, spaciousness, and cleanliness. The breakfast is extravagant with cuisine from every continent to choose from. Free wifi and ample TV stations to choose from. Excellent central location. The hotel has that “vibe”. The older section, built in the late 1800s, by the French, still boasts of having the original, and oldest lift in HCM. Chatting to the lady who manages the Guest Relations desk is a delightful experience. The only question she couldn’t help me with was about the origins of the Hindu Temple in HCM! She provided me with more water and shoe-polishing sponge on my last day. When told about taxi drivers who tried to convince me that the “150” on the meter meant 150,000,000 dongs instead of 150,000 dongs, she immediately offered to order a Grab private car airport drop off for me. She also gave valuable advice to take note of the taxi drivers’ registration number that is displayed next to their names the next time I use a taxi in Vietnam.
Hopefully, on my next return, there will be more tea bags and complimentary milk in the fridge for westerners who like their tea with a touch of milk!

Nice hotel in district 1, at walkable distance of many attractions and nice restaurants. Rooms are spacious and clean and breakfast buffet comes with good choice. Looking at the pics we were just expecting a smaller sized hotel but in reality this one is not.
Do not ask for an airport pick up - their fare is 50USD vs maximum 10 of a regular taxi. Same with the taxi in front of the hotel, pick the white or the green ones and disregard their suggestion to use the grey ones (they charge double of the price)

I booked and paid for one nights accomodation online.
Inadvertently I clicked the 1/03 whereas I arrived on 29/03 (leap year confusion)
When I arrived and after several frustrating discussions at the front desk I asked to see the Manager.
He assured me by saying “dont worry I will sort this out”
During my stay it was obvious that the hotel was at most 30% full
After my departure I discovered that the Grand Hotel had made an unauthorised charge to my Visa for one nights accomodation at a rate 40% higher than the same room that I had already paid for online
Sorry Grand Hotel but I dont like being scammed !!

This hotel was very very poor. Staff could not understand very basic English such as coffee or tea whilst we were at breakfast or whilst preserving food by the pool. The casino was closed for an “internal audit”, the spa was closed, the pool area was under maintenance whilst we were there (the signs said the pool was shut but after asking other staff members they advised it was open and the sign was wrong).
The cost of food and drinks in the grand lounge was unbelievable. Obviously I would expect them to be higher than the streets but a tiny cocktail was over 12 Australian dollars and there were meals on the menu over 50 Australian dollars. The view was great from up there however. The breakfast did not cater for western visitors at all and staff didn’t know what we were asking for.
A young girl fainted at breakfast whilst we were there and none of the staff had any clue what they should do. Luckily she was ok however if something serious were to occur I would be very concerned about the outcome.
The rooms were nothing special. We missed the normal cleaning service during the day as we accidentally left the do not disturb sign on and a note was left to call if we would like the room serviced after 4 which I did. The person I spoke with had no idea what I was talking about and we only managed to get 1 fresh towel for 2 people and no room clean.
There was a sign in the hotel pool which described the pool rules. I would hope that number 6a is a poor effort to translate Vietnamese to English….
We advised the reception staff there was a leak in the lobby and the lounges were wet when we were leaving and the person didn’t care.
The highlight was Elvis in the restaurant. He was very caring and made the effort to have a chat to our family each morning and make sure we got what we needed.
Despite this, We definitely won’t be back.

Our arrival at The Grand was perfect: our room keys were waiting for us at Reception, our luggage was already in our (beautiful, spacious) room.
A quick freshen up, and we visited the Rooftop Bar and Lounge for cocktails: marvellous views over Saigon; music to dance to (a little loud at times, but fun!)
Sleep quality: wonderful: comfortable bed and great pillows.
Breakfasts are amazing - a vast range of delicious dishes, Asian and Western.
Location: excellent: walking distance of the old Market; modern shopping centres; and of course the historic Continental Hotel. Dong Khoi is also pleasant (if busy) to walk down, to the River.
And the Staff are helpful and friendly.
Definitely a good way to start a tour of Vietnam.

+1
The hotel is located right in the heart of Ho Chi Minh city. It is a lovely hotel, and all the staff are very efficient and friendly, and they make you feel so welcome.
The foyer is well laid out and offers money exchange at a very reasonable rate.
The rooms are large and clean with the largest bed, it has to be at least 3 metres wide, with a choice of two pillows. There is plenty of room to lay out your suitcases. The bathroom is nice and clean and has a lovely large shower head.
Before you leave the Hotel for tours or shopping, I recommend you change a small amount of money into local money VND, for small items like drinks and ice cream.
A$50 = aprox 800,000 VND, ask reception to break it down into 100,000 and 50,000 VND notes.

We stayed here twice but each room was very different, the first had a view out to the pool and beyond to the river, comfy bed, efficient mini fridge, great separate shower, tea and coffee making facilities but a difficult room to store cases.
The second room was dire, considering it was nearly empty and we had to wait, it was large but no view only a brick wall so very dark, no separate shower we had to step over a high bath, creating a large amount of water on the bathroom floor, the fridge was a mini bar so not efficient, a comfy bed but overall you have to check your room when you book or check in because they vary.
The location was good with all the major tourist sites within walking distance, a great little Circle K opposite for supplies!
A good breakfast but too efficient clearing of plates, often food was still in our mouths. Also don’t be late at 9.30 prompt, breakfast is cleared away.

Nothing wrong with the hotel as such. Great location. Amazing staff. It is just one of these super old school hotels. And the average visitor is 75 so breakfast is an ordeal, everything is slow, boomers reserve places at the pool with towels and disappear etc etc so it made my stay a lot less enjoyable.

Fantastic breakfast buffet!....a lot of selections for the western and Asian palate.
Rooftop Bar was nice but pricey, so enjoy the view when you arrive, pay the $$ and move on to more affordable places to enjoy a drink and snack.

Best to ask the hotel directly. We did not stay there. We only had their delicious buffet.
Yes they did to our rooms but we took it back down when we were leaving. Plse make sure your rooms aren't in the old part of the hotel.
I do not believe that they operate an airport shuttle type service. They can arrange for a private car service. I would recommend downloading "Grab," the Vietnam equivalent of Uber before you arrive. We found Grab to be safer and more reliable than the problematic Vietnamese taxis.
The large double is to twins pushed together the beds are nice the rooms are outstanding.
