Breakfast is a large buffet in an outdoor courtyard that is covered when rain threatens. Outside of the entrance are tables with bar and food service, it is directly across from the Opera, a lovely building to gaze at. There is a more formal restaurant just inside with both French and Vietnamese cuisines, they also boast a good and varied wine list.
Room service was prompt and delicious.
If you are looking for a place with old world charm, this is it!

The breakfast had a wide variety of tasty foods and a large staff to assist, clear tables, etc. Very enjoyable in the outdoor garden setting.
The halls are not air conditioned because they are open to the outside, so stepping from my room gave me a blast of hot air.
The spa had private rooms but a very limited offering: Standard massages for 60/90/120 minutes. Nothing else such as foot massages, facials, scrubs, etc.
I appreciated Binh Duong at the front desk who was cheerful, helpful, and speaks good English.

The room was bleak (not like the photos), and the sink and bath were very old. The amenities were of the same class as a regular business hotel in Japan.
There were plates, knives, and forks for eating fruit in the room, but there was no fruit, so when I asked, I was told to come and get it. It was far from the room, so I asked them to bring it to me, and they brought it to me after a while. (The idea of coming and getting it is unthinkable.)
Although it is a long-established hotel, I can only say that the service is consistently bad.
The banh mi at breakfast was delicious, but there wasn't much else to choose from, and it was kept to a minimum to maintain its dignity.
The location was very good, and it was convenient to go anywhere.
Perhaps it's because I had high expectations, but compared to Marriott and Hilton hotels (is it wrong to compare?), the quality is significantly lower, so I recommend staying here without high expectations.
It seems that Grab taxis are not allowed to stop in front of the hotel.
Please be careful if you use Grab.
This hotel is in the middle price range for Ho Chi Minh City, but I think cheaper places would have been sufficient.

The not so good – service is only so-so. Some of the staff are friendly, but many seem disinterested. The room is a bit tired and needs an update. While the room was air conditioned the unit struggled to keep the room cool. This is partly due to the poor fitting windows and door – which also allowed in a considerable amount of noise (and in the case of the windows actually rattled at times resonating with outside music). They could make the room considerably more comfortable, both as to temperature and noise by installing modern double glazed units.
Even when we put in laundry first thing in the morning it arrived back late – 9.45pm on one night.
Due to its location, it can also be incredibly noisy at night, with music from nearby venues and party buses continuing well into the night. Definitely NOT recommended if you like a quiet location to sleep in.
In summary the place has great bones and potential but needs some good leadership and some money spent on it to make the most of its location.

The hotel exudes a sense of timeless charm, seamlessly blending reflections of a bygone era with the conveniences of a modern establishment. My room was exceptionally comfortable, quiet, and tastefully decorated in a style reminiscent of classical Vietnamese elegance.
The dining experience at the Le Bourgeois restaurant was outstanding, with delectable dishes that delighted my appetite. The breakfast buffet was equally impressive, offering a plentiful and varied selection to suit all tastes.
While Ho Chi Minh City boasts a wide array of accommodations, the Hotel Continental Saigon stands out as a top choice for discerning travelers seeking comfort, luxury, and excellent cuisine. A highlight of my stay was sitting outside on the cafe terrace, enjoying a drink and a light meal while soaking in the vibrant atmosphere and people-watching in front of the historic Opera House.
I stayed a total of 7 nights in Nov/Dec on this recent trip. I have no hesitation in giving Hotel Continental Saigon a five-star recommendation and look forward to staying here again on my next visit to Ho Chi Minh City.
The rooms in the hotel have air conditioning, but the hallways do not, so it’s like walking through a sauna.
Maid service was great. Breakfast buffet was very good with espresso style coffee and omelettes to order. Hotel service could have been better….we asked for a second suitcase rack and they couldn’t help us, so we moved the TV and the 2nd suitcase was put in its place.

I had a large room with old wooden furniture but the two glass doors at the back of the room didn’t have a view outside, they just had a corridor with meeting rooms the other side. I booked a superior room and the reception said that it has no windows but I didn’t see that anywhere on the booking via a booking website but it did say the room is allocated on arrival so, that’s what I ended up with. I must mention that I didn't book the room directly with the hotel just a superior room via a booking site so that's what I had but it would have been nice to had a view out.
I arrived at the hotel early and used the bag store where a label is put on the bag and it is held in the foyer not a separate room or anything, but it seemed pretty safe there.
There is a good choice for breakfast which is served in a large dining area.
Apart from being an iconic hotel the other important thing is the location of the hotel, close to many of the sights and in the centre.
The grand old hotel was ok for the night but there are modern and cheaper hotels in HCMC.
